Φίλε μου, κάνεις μεγάλο λάθος!! Ακριβώς επειδή τραγούδησε εναντίον της Ιταλίας, μόλις μπήκαν οι Γερμανοι στη Βόρεια Ελλάδα, κάποιοι φίλοι την ειδοποίησαν να φύγει άρον-αρον γιατί ήταν στους άμεσους στόχους των Γερμανών (Γκέμπελς γαρ..) Εφυγε αμέσως για Αίγυπτο (έκανε και ταινία), όπου συνέχισε να τραγουδάει πατριωτικά τραγούδια στους Ελληνες εκεί, αλλά και σε Ελληνες στρατιώτες της Μέσης Ανατολής αργότερα. Να υπενθυμίσω ότι είχε δώσει τη μισή περιουσία της στο Ναυτικό πριν φύγει.

When this wonderful Greek patriot sang the song about Mussolini which ends with..." Kai ee Romee pehreemehnee kai keenee tee seerah" I get goosebumps and fill with pride! She was the spirit of Greece in Greece's darkest moment. Her songs during WW II live in the hearts of Greeks who remember hearing them then and fill the hearts of those of us who hear them now with pride. Zeeto to ethnos! Zeeto Sophia!
