  • Fuck Williamson County. Bunch of crooked low life mofo's that racially profile. Especially the bitch ass Cedar Park Police Dept. All you Pencil dick bastards in that county can go fuck yourselves...

  • @patricka05 lol wow man you must not like the police like i do man

  • no alert there

  • Can't you refuse a dog sniff just the same as refusing a search?

  • @pjds1989 No, the Dog sniff is considered a "Free air sniff" by the federal law. You can refuse it but it dont matter. It does no violate a illegal search because the dog did not go into the vehicle.... Kinda puzzling i know.

  • What a waste of dog.

  • @manofgod30

Man you must have no fucking life if you need to dismantle a whole car to find some poor bastards stash. That dude "Rock" is so high on roids. I wasnt sure that whores and gambeling was worse than an insane roid rager on the loose.

Why we live our lives and do what us humans do, while others like to busy body others because what they do is so fucking boring, pigs need into our lives to get kicks.. But cops are freaks and we say fuck off. So they force themselves onto people.

  • Dog looks like it just wants to play and be a dog, jumping up at the driver and wagging it's tail. Smelling the lawn and wagging it's tail. The dog is definately not focused on the task it's supposed to be performing. It's not focused on anything really, it's just bouncing around and wagging it's tail.

  • @manofgod30 I drink and smoke all the time. Whenever I can. I like getting high and having sex with good-looking women. I've been a jerk a lot of times in my life, but I've got nothing to hide, either.

  • @manofgod30 Just because you never smoked or drank doesn't make you a saint. Judge not. He who is without sin, cast the first stone sound familiar ? You are one of the people who thinks that if someone else is doing it and you're not, then it's a sin. If Christ was alive today, you'd be one of the first to call for His crucifiction because He was acting different than you. You're probably headed straight to hell with gasoline underwear on.

  • @manofgod30 You're a living example that it's not drugs that make people idiots.

  • @manofgod30

I cant even believe the prejudice bullshit and bigotry that you believe. Drugs dogs have been PROVEN through research and studies that they falsely alert extremely frequently, and many times corrupt cops just make the dogs falsely alert so they can illegally bypass people's 4th amendment.

Fuck you, you're just a dumb trashy piece of shit that's been conditioned to believe ridiculous stereotypes and lies.

  • @manofgod30

First off, I would like to say I think your a prejudice, inbred white trash piece of shit.

I can guarantee you that there are many people who use cannabis that have a IQ and intellect that would far surpass yours, and many cannabis consumers that have overall more stable lives and better finances then you.

You can't even use correct grammar and punctuation, and yet you call EVERYONE who uses cannabis stupid? Fuck you, and the bullshit lies you've been indoctrinated to believe.

  • @manofgod30 Haha. You just proved how stpid you really are. You believe the governements propaganda. Whats so bad about being a pothead?

  • @manofgod30 Dogs are idiots and there is no amount of training or pageantry that is going to change that fact.

  • So this constitutes a "positive" alert, even though the

dog seems more interested in the grass off to the right of the vehicle?

If so, the 4th Amendment is officially defunct.

  • Having trained narcotic detector dogs the only thing that comes to my mind is "send the handler back to school with the dog". they are not working as a team and the handler keeps taking the dog over the same area. Done enough the dog will respond as he believes that is what his handler wants. Note the handlers body position.

  • that damn dog has no intrest in the tracker/jeep the cop keeps pulling him and tapping the car damn pigs god bless barry kooper and i think the dog has to pisslol

  • All the sanctimonious idiots who posted on here claiming that "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" should consider the fact that a cop who is crooked enough to manipulate his dog so he can perform an illegal search is probably also crooked enough to just plant drugs on you outright if he doesn't get what he wants. Yes, that's right, it can happen to you too. Police corruption is one of the most pernicious crimes in society, far worse than any drugs.

  • It looked like there was some off to the right the dog alerted to. As far as the suv no alert at all.

  • Dear Police, If you can't train a dog to paw at something on command, then you are a crappy dog trainer.

  • ha this is liberty hill high school right behind them is high 29

  • @mseals29 its ok. We forgive you for being in the larval stage. But maybe one day you will have an awakening. Thew war on drugs is a failure. The NWO will stop at nothing until our rights are nothing but the paper they are written on. Words without meaning.

  • If the sit indicated an alert, then the dog alerted TWICE on the COP before it ever even considered doing so on the vehicle. The dirty pig coup should have been searched.

  • I'm just wondering, how come the dog didn't pick up on the drugs in the car?

  • Dog handlers can cue their dogs to false positive reaction as admitted by Plano K-9 Handler see: Youtube-Plano Texas propaganda day 1/2 (2:42-3:30) video

I was amazed and have never thought about that!

  • Just another typical American cop...useless and gun crazy wankers...nothing without that badge

  • Classic case of overworking your dog! One pass of the vehicle is all that is required, if you continue to search after no intial "Alert" the K9 will alert in order to get it's reward.

  • American cops are truly awful, sadistic, bastards with inferiority complexes

  • @WizardProvision You are absolutely correct!!!! We call them wankers in the UK, and thats too good a word for them.

  • who more retarded the dog or the officer.....had my car searched in willco and 2 out of 3 times they fucked up the interior of my car and didnt mention it to me and didnt pay for it hopefully one day you fuckers get shot on duty

  • I come from Liberty Hill and has had first hand experience with Officer George (i actually have his cell phone number saved in my phone) and the searching of my vehicle. he also told me that if an officer asks to search the car to say no and let them bring the dog in. obviously that is a bad idea. he has also told me that he will search someones car based on appearance. this was also filmed in front of the high school. bout time the cops were busted for their corrupt ways

  • Wow, They were really trying hard to make that dog smell SOMETHING. That dog obviously smelled nothing and was more interested in something off camera to the right. Great video!

  • Look up Donald P. Scott on Wikipedia. This man was murdered by the l.a. and DEA police after breaking into his 200 acre ranch with a bogus warrant. No one was penalized let alone served jail time. I just had a friend get his salvage yard raided by a swat team under the precept of his running a chop shop. They spent all day chasing away his costumers, every person on the lot was searched, going through 100's of cars, engines and body parts and every single one was legal with title. Be afraid!!!

  • Sadly, no surprise to me being in Williamson county. There is a new law on the books that a small amount of pot found on you is supposed to get you a ticket only but the cops are so gung ho they usually arrest you. Once again, we have to many cops and not enough detectives in Texas fixing crime but out busting people for revenue.

  • they do know u have to rain a dog to find drugs? it's not some genetic heritage.

  • Ive actually seen this same exact thing where I live on my block in front of about 20-30 people.. But when the dog didn't hit on the car, they took the dudes money, threw it down, then took the dog and trained the dog on the cash with the dogs toy. the cop kept throwing the dog toy at the money till the dog went crazy...the cops took those dudes to jail, saying there money was drug money. and that there car might contain drugs.

  • oh fucking christ barry that's the 1000$ buck buyed video!!! nice invested money! what is the name of this fat k9 cop? and the name of the dog to! thanx!

  • This Dog was coaxed, don't look at the dog, look at the handler, he is bribing the dog and giving visual clues as to what he wants the dog to do. The first time or two around the vehicle should have been enough if the dog were certain he smelled something. Instead we see a handler who isn't getting the result he wanted and then using visual clues to tell the dog how he wants the dog to act. I raised more than a few hunting dogs, this no different, except hunting dogs are not taught to lie.

  • From my experience filming the K9s searching vehicles, it is my opinion that the dog never alerted. After a while the dog will go through the motion to get the reward despite the absence of narcotics, especially when a cop keeps making the dog sniff the same square inch over and over.

  • oh my god this is the county i live in. I feel terrible living here now that I know that my rights will be violated in the case I get stopped and the officer decides he needs to search me.

  • stay out of williamson county! the cops there are just out to ruin people's lives.

  • and yes i lie about my age because i want to i am 16 and i have no sociel life i have to spend hours day in and day out studying and trying to cram everything i need to know into my mind in just a few months to get my g.e.d, i even had to travel across the country just to get a second chance, and yes this was someone else's account before it was mine. I am the voice of the beat down and the broken. the ones who are afriad to say their voice for fear of being arrested.

  • standing up for the people who have already been arrested and will still be arrested untill the world is changed i will gladly go back in a small cell if it makes the point i will not go out doing anything illegal but i will press my rights for those who can not please listen to me!

  • please understand i do not want pity, no i am a voice to be heard, the voice of the beat down and broken the ones that were forced to believe what they were forced beileve. i am that voice and i will not be silent untill i am heard!!!! i had my life my teenage life taken away no high school, nothing i lost my girlfriend, my friends except one, please listen to me for i am that silent voice now turned loud, i am not afriad of being arrested again! because if i am arrested it is because i am sta

  • because no school wants a criminal in their system, i messed up in my past i know i wasnt a model student but i would have been if i didnt have to be introduced to the criminal world because i wanted to smoke a plant, i had to do thing i am ashamed of because cops would ruin my life and they did, i lost my friends my girlfriend everything as i write this i am in tears because i will never know what highschool was like the 8th grade was as far as i got i was 14 going on 15 when i was arrested...

  • i was a kid and i was treated like a criminal i was considered a run case so i was shackeled all attached to my waist, my life was ruined i was no longer allowed to go to school in nevada because it was my second expulsion my first was for somthing stupid when i was a kid, because of that i may not be able to join the marines or even the army, my life my hopes my dreams were shot down hell im only 16 right now and i have to bust my ass to study for a g.e.d because i cant go to school

  • ya im from liberty hill and all the cops here are complete douchebags and will try to search your car for anything if your under 25 and if you say no then they make you wait for the dog no matter what

  • That dog false responded due to Handler error, I'm a Patrol explosives dog handler and I know it should not take you more than 30 seconds to detail a vehicle. This retarded handler went around the vehicle several times and obviously doesn't trust him. What a piece of shit!!!!

  • Okay, you leave out alchohol, pain-killers and anti-depresants and i might just take you seriously.

  • I was was talking about ILLEGAL drugs.

  • Right, and Alcohol and anti-depressants are good wholesome family fun drugs?

I didn't realize your an uninspired robot, I won't trouble your devoid mind.

  • what about the people who aren't carrying anything who have to deal with cops like these who manipulate their k-9's and use them as a loophole for an illegal search?

  • The people who CRY illegal search are the ones who are guilty. As I have said before if people would leave the illegal shit alone then they wouldn't have to worry about anything.

  • You are missing the point. Regardless of whether they are riding dirty or clean, there are certain procedures that must be followed. These procedures help preserve the rights that the guilty, as well as the innocent, have as citizens of these United States. Rights were violated here, and that is why their bust was null and void.

"An unjust law is no law at all."

    -St. Augustine

  • Well the way I see it is this. If you are doing something that is illegal then you should be caught by ANY MEANS necessary. Not try and find a loop hole in the system to try and get out of it.

  • and it happens so many times that people rights are violated because of a 'hunch', and it turns out that the 'suspect' is actually innocent. it is very hard to tell the difference between someone hiding something, and someone who really is legit. if you throw their rights out the window, you remove that fine line between investigating and harassment. as a criminal justice major, i could explain to you all day why your way of thinking is unconstitutional, as well as destructive to society

  • Driving in a car on a highway is NOT a right. So with that said if the police want to search EVERYONE on the highway as they pass then you take that chance every time you get in your car. So DON"T carry the drugs on you and you wont have a problem will you.

  • You're right. Driving on a highway is a privilege. Same as having a driver's license. However, PRIVACY is a right. And for a police officer to violate privacy without probable cause is a violation of these rights. This video can't be a clearer example of violating someone's right to privacy. This dog was coaxed into giving a false alert. Its a manipulation of the situation in order to further an investigation. You can't be any more direct in trampling the constitution here.

  • @mseals29 wtf are you on about?! I just had a cop search my car. because he lied about smelling weed in my van.

  • I smell a crooked cop

  • It doesnt matter if they did find some weed... he obviously wanted the dog to alert so whos to say the cop didnt plant the weed? if the dog wasnt alerting=no weed, so they get to search and what do they find.. no weed... so they plant some.

  • thats what they do

  • Neither dogs nor horse should be used in law enforcement.

  • Too Long, too many presentations, too many cues from the handler and the dog still did not respond...Piss Poor Training/Handling. If the drugs were there...screw the owner, last time I checked it was still illegal, whether the dog alerted or not. The dog needs remedial training. (So does the handler)

  • Wow this is blatant bullsh*t... it should take no longer than 45 seconds for that cop to walk around that car and give that dog a chance to alert him to the possible smell of marijuana present or not. What was that cop doing, if you train a dog to detect marijuana you have to trust that the dog will alert you for the reward. Of course if you go up to the same spot 20 times the dog will figure out you WANT him to give an alert and that's exactly what that officer did. 4-5 minutes walking around.

  • hahhahahha "waaaa waaaa waaaa the police took my drugs" "the dog did'nt smell my drugs the first time by waaa waaa waaa" fucking druggies, nobody cries like a little spoiled bitch more than a druggie. hahahahha too bad for you the dumb clown ACTUALLY had drugs in the car hahahhahhaa

  • I smell bacon.

  • joethecrab it is people like you that make lawenforcement look bad. Grow up. I am a K-9 handler myself and I will tell you that this officer did nothing but cue his dog to alert so that he could have his reward. You should not have to walk your K-9 up to the same area more than 2 times max. If you have a good dog and if you are a good handler then you shouldn't ever run into this situation.

  • get your fucking paws off my car!!!!! its so obvious why they took the audio out, bitch pigs...sit puppy sit

  • can you come to PA and help us out?

  • i've trained dogs for 38 years. this dog is hitting on the bag on the grass...whats up with that? another case of police given dogs with improper training..so sad for the cost of these dogs and adding handlers that are not trained for their dogs "q's"...remarkable and stupid with a great cost to tax payers

  • i was in wilco and i met a guy in there for over a week for a pi. maybe he had warrants though. I live here and i fucking hate it. the justice system is just a business to them; and they make bank.

  • yeah fuck will co...they will hang a drug dealer and let a molestor walk free

  • Or he was drunk? With legally purchased alcohol?

  • what the hell have you been smoking sport?

  • try smoking marijuana sometime man, trust me, the only thing you wanna molest is chicken wings

  • hahahahahahahha, couldnt have said it better myself!

  • Chicken wings are to much work. I'm a breast man. ;) Mmmmm KFC. Damn it, now I'm hungry. :p

  • Hahahahaha! The drug that would be most likely to do that is legal. It's called alcohol. You are taking out of your arse.

Pot smokers sit, smoke, play games, do artsy fartsy crap, play video games, etc. No one get stoned and wants to molest kids.

Don't make stupid assumptions like that.

  • now you got me thinking what does "arse" mean?

  • bull that cop sucks

  • she was guilty

  • "The jury was selected and five minutes before the trial started, the prosecutor said he did not want to try the case and offered the motorist time served, no fine and no probation. She took the deal. The meth charge was dropped. "

SHE TOOK THE DEAL MAKES THIS LOOK AS THOUGH SHE WAS GUILTY TO BEGIN WITH?

  • God damn i live just south of williamson county in travis county

this makes me never want to leave my county again.

The cops i know in travis county joke about how horrible the cops treat the people in williamson.

  • I live in WilCo, have all my life, and thank GOD this is my last summer in this hell hole. Specifically, I live in Liberty Hill. These cops really are terrible. WilCo and LHPD both treat citizens like absolute shit. I got back from work around 11:30 one night, and was filling my truck up at the exxon. Apparently, thats "suspicious" and led to a full fledged search by 4 units. Despicable fuckin pricks!

  • I'm from Austin too, Lost. I've heard the same rap about Williamson County. Screw that place.

  • yeah man, they held my brother in jail for 2 days for having an EXPIRED license. not suspended, expired.

  • First of all German Shepherds make fine narcotic detector dogs. We use alot of different type and many are German Shepherds. As long as they have a very good intent and enjoy their reward.

Second, this officer wasn't using a very systematic search pattern. He kept going over the same areas over and over. This will eventually key the dog and give a false response. This dog is very distracted and the officer doesn't do much to discourage it.

  • That dog was more interesed in the dead cat or the pile of shit or whatever it was on the side of the road...

Yeah, we're supposed to trust this dog with or the handler with our rights against illegal search and seizure?

This form of Gestapo shit needs to end NOW!

  • But you, on the other hand, do have a clue? done and in depth study I see?...

Well please enlighten us....what pile are you blabbering about? the pile of shit between your ears, genius? So they find contraband, leave it in the ditch beside the road 6 feet from the car...now this is where it gets hazy...they go back and entice the dog into alerting again for what reason? Maybe you should take your own fucking advice Yoda.....

Fucking know it all asswipes..ya gotta love em....

  • blizter1111,

If the D.A. was so sure about the legality of the alert, then why did he offer the deal just before trial?

He knew I was about to testify and show the jury the video.

    Barry Cooper

  • does this fucking cop not know that he has a camera watching him?

  • couple of things about this video that don't make sense. One: Is this training for a new handler/k-9? What happened before the video starts? and last, typically german shepards are used for patrol, not drug detection. it has been proven via many studies that german shepards are not very apt to be scent dogs, they tend to use their eyes and ears more and their noses less.

  • that dog needs to sniff more crotches back at the station.

  • I would agree that this is one of the worst K9's ever. I would know...however, this is just a segment of the stop and who knows what else is intailed. But when it comes to the alert..this is a disgrace to the rest of us..

  • I would be very interested if Barry would consider an opinion on the Anderson pastor beating case.

  • @MayonR i kinda enjoyed watching that one

  • I just posted a video of a K9 finding drugs and this became one of the related videos. I never saw the dog hit. I've seen one that sits and one that scratches. This dog seemed to just want his chew toy from the officer. Just my observation.

  • Look at that cop hold something in his hand to the door repeatedly with the dog wagging its tail frantically. This is towards the 3:15 second part of the video.

This reminds me of the recent Pastor Stephen Anderson, warrantless, suspicionless checkpoint where he was beaten and tazed.

BP agents said the dog "Alerted", but how CAN it when there isnt anything there to alert to? Shouldn't the case be DROPPED if nothing is found even after an "accidental" false alert?

  • Barry Cooper is great. I'm voting for him for TX Attorney General.

  • what?

  • YOU CREATED A CHANNEL SPECIFICALLY TO DEBUNK mR. cOOPER ????

    CHANNEL CREATED 2-03-2009

    VIDEOS WATCHED: 83

ONLY ACTIVITY: FIVE COMMENTS ON ONE VIDEO OF BARRY'S

    !! ?WTF? !!

  • "YOU CREATED A CHANNEL SPECIFICALLY TO DEBUNK mR. cOOPER ????"

    -fixer1972

Don't be surprised. blizter1111 could be a government agent who's making big bucks off the "War on Drugs." The War on Drugs means big money for government agents. Google "Prison Industrial Complex 1999". The video features government agents bragging about the money they make off drug busts. I wouldn't be surprised if government agents fight tooth and nail to discredit Mr. Cooper in an effort to prolong the War on Drugs

  • The question that can't be answered here, unless you know, is... Is the dog trained as a passive alert or aggressive alert. If it was a aggressive alert then the handler keyed in on his dogs intrest like he should have. If it was a passive alert, then yes.... complete screw up

  • passive alert.

    Barry Cooper

  • The jury was selected and five minutes before the trial started, the prosecutor said he did not want to try the case and offered the motorist time served, no fine and no probation. She took the deal. The meth charge was dropped. This was an illegal search and the prosecutor knew it.

  • Crooked cop. That dog did not alert.

  • Well, Blitzer1111, if that be the case, then why does the sheriff condemn the actions of the officer in this video? He must know of the case, it was in his county. And they found marihuana, so he could have said it was a legit search, yet he stated otherwise. Why? Because it's clear the dog was encouraged to alert. It doesn't look like a well trained dog either. It kept wanting to go on the grass, and was circling the kop, and generally acting easily distracted. And easily manipulated with a toy

  • I do not see anything saying the Sheriff condemns it.

  • I am a police officer and have worked and trained canines for law enforcement for 30 years.

Whoever the idiotic wanna be k-9 handler on the video is should work as a crossing guard. He gives K-9 a bad name and possibly creates real bad case law.

Have never seen a more incompetent clown than him

  • You obvisouly aren't real brillant when it comes to canines by your comment.....I trained them for years and you can see the alert within the first thress passes after that according to case law nothing really matters what happens........also what was the outcome of this case

  • Barry, i'm interested to see what happened with this case. Did you win?

  • hey check out my channel I plan on covering Barry Cooper and working with him on making any videos if I can! Good luck and HAPPY 420!

  • What were we just watching? Which one was real, which one was "false alert?" It would be beneficial to have text on the screen or something to let us laypeople know which was which.

  • the dog sits to alert. at around 3 minutes he does some hand motions simulating he has a treat and the dog reluctantly sits. Then the officer looks over at the other officer and motions that there was an alert. Ive been false alerted on as well only the dog was trained better. I didnt have a damn thing in my car nor had I ever, and it was a brand new off the lot car with around 3000 miles I put on it. Nobody drives my car, they searched for around an hour and fucked up my car for nothing....

  • this is absolutley terrible even f you hide your stash very well and the k-9 cant smell it the cop will just false alert it and then you are screwd =[

  • What is the point of using the search dogs as a legal point to do a search if they can be manipulated for the alert? It seems the dogs are more unreliable than lie detectors which aren't admissible in court. From watching this video I'm inclined to believe using the dogs fall within illegal search and seizure guidelines.

  • This is so typical in my town, the police are horrible; but they do have a good reason since the more than half the town is on drugs

  • they don't have a good reason at all, we have procedural due process for a reason, if we didn't have that a cop could arrest you for any damn reason he wanted

  • That's not what we're talking about. I'm refering to reasonable suspison. Like there are check points to check for drunk drivers, that doesn't mean everyone is an impaired driver, but there is reasonable suspision to believe there may be impaireds on the road. In Florida, because the I95 is a heavy drug pipeline, there is reasonable suspision that some vehicles maybe carrying large amounts of drugs, so police set up check points that include a narcotics dog.

  • Boy, you had a really great argument up to the point of that last word.

You stated it fine. Without the personal attack, you would have been much more credible.

  • I agree that a dog'sw response is good enoudh for probable cause.

  • The dog looks back at the handler because he is waiting for the reward to be thrown to him. Typically it is taught to the dog that the reward magicaly appears from where the source of odour is, however many dogs get wise to the fact that the handler throws the reward.

  • Dogs will respond to whispers. They also respond to hand signals. That's how SWAT dog handlers do it without announcing to the world that they are outside.

  • Yes actually it does. That's actually how they train the dogs to find drugs, is through scent association. The dog actually thinks he is looking for his toy. Trainers take toys and scent with narcotics odour, then hide them. The toy is brought out and the dog thinks it is thrown. As the dog searches for it the handler will give a sit command when the dog is at the source of odour. When the K9 sits he is rewarded from the source. It's based off Ivan Pavlov's theory of Stimulus and response.

  • Something that I also just noticed after rewatching the video, is that the handler took out the toy to get the dogs attention. Then he faked a throw to refocus the dog. This is not uncommon at all. It just ocurred to me though, if the handler was planning on doing something like making the the dog sit without an actual indication of odour, why wouldn't he just whisper the command "sit" while his back was to the camera? Maybe after being refocused the dog hit the odour and Alerted correctly.

  • it does not surprise me one bit that they decided to deploy the K9 unit and try and get the dog to sit so that they could search the vehicle by hand. they also tore out a buddy of mines speakers and still havent fixed any of the damage. they are a bunch of guys with an ego as big as the earth, and really make policeman look bad. they really are an embarrassment, and have turned liberty hill into a huge speed trap. theyve been known to give out citations for 2 over!

  • I am from Liberty Hill. this is filmed at the entrance to the parking lot of the highschool. the liberty hill cops started up about 3 years ago do this type of thing on a regular basis. they are a self funded gig, and so write as many tickets as humanly possible. having said that, they were able to buy a new tahoe and K9, and will search any kid they pull over. for example, a good friend of mine was searched because of a "suspicious" odor. he has never smoked anything in his life

  • False search, Get at em Bary Hoorahhhh

  • Kop is used to identify corrupt cops.

  • cops is spelled with a "C" not a "K". Stop smoking pot

  • cock has a c and a k in it, and you suck it.

  • if i am pulled over for what ever reason, lets say speeding, and an officer approaches the car with a k-9, what probable cause does the dog have to search me?...thanks

  • Years ago, when K-9's were new to police, the Supreme Court ruled the outside air sniff of an auto is not a search. However, an officer should have reasonable suspicion before deploying a K-9. Because it's so easy for a K-9 team to lie and/or make a mistake, a dog's alert should never be probable cause for a search. The courts need to take another look at their antiquated ruling. Hopefully this case will go to the Supreme Court because if we lose, we will continue appealing.

    Barry Cooper

  • What case was it where SCOTUS said that "an officer should have reasonable suspicion before deploying a K-9"?

  • I'm not sure, but couldn't reasonable suspision be as easy as you are travelling on a highway that is known to be drug pipeline? Case in point, the I95 in Florida.

  • Youtube does not aggregate these comments well. The question was for Mr. Cooper.

  • The dog sat when he was not near the car. So I think the officer pulled out the chew toy to get him to sit and once he did. he walked him near the car and bingo! ive seen bomb/drug dogs in action and they don't take that long before they are alerted...if so, the handler and dog needs to be re-trained

  • That dog looks like he's alerting to a female dog in heat over in the park nearby.

  • I don't know what happened b4 the K9 was out.Prob a lawyer showing what he wants. I can't make a judgement here & no 1 else can either because we weren't there. The K9 may have been trying to idicate, but the handler did not read the dog. Or maybe he did & didn't read correctly. The K9s are trained to go source. Scent travels in air. If the drivers windows were open scent of narcotics may have actually been moving to where the K9 was first going.Airflow may have been moving 2 the passenger side.

  • Copper,

That was the lamest answer in support of a horrible K-9 team I've ever heard. How come you kops always defend each other even when you are grossly wrong? Read the other comments dude...everybody can see the alert is false.

    Barry Cooper

  • I'm not a Cop, but I have handled LE k9s for many years. I agree that the handler did not read his k9. The k9 was pulling the the passenger side of the car were the airflow may have been moving. I would have let the dog go and investigate. The handler was wrong in coaxing his k9 to sit, but that doesn't mean the k9 did wrong and that there was not drugs in the car. Do you know if drugs were found after the deputies conducted a hand search? Was the driver charged with a drug offense?

  • The k-9 was interested in the other side of the auto because the driver and her large dog were in the grass out of camera range. If you were as good as you say, you would have noticed the k-9 was not pulling to the passenger side of the car as you suggest. Watch the first five seconds. The k-9 is clearly pulling in a direction away from the auto, not to it.

  • So I take it drugs were located inside the vehicle after the officers conducted a hand search. All I said was that I have been handling dogs for many years. The only expert that can truely say what the dog is doing the handler. No one else puts the time in with that particular dog. All handlers are experts but only when it comes to their own dog. I meant that the dog was pulling away from the vehicle put on the passenger side of the vehicle. He should have let the dog go to where he was pulling.

  • Copper,

    You said,

"The only expert that can truely say what the dog is doing the handler. "

I hope you testify to that in court because it's absolutely false. An expert K-9 handler can handle ANY dog and can easily see the mistakes any team makes.

I don't believe you have been handling dogs as you say because none of your stuff is correct.

Are you just guessing or are you that under trained?

    Barry

  • The only expert with THAT K9 is the handler. A person considered a K9 expert may look at the tape & make opinions based off of his own vast experience, with the K9s he has handled, but unless he has personally handled and trained THAT K9 on the tape, he is not qualified to detect the subtle indications that that K9 makes. Only the handler, who spends the most time with the K9 can see those behaviours. You can't see those on a tape. And again this so called False Alert did turn up drugs didn't it.

  • If we must rely solely on the opinion of the handler with THAT K9, then there can be no way to know whether the handler is being honest or not. If it is a valid science then it should be able to withstand criticism. If nobody but the handler can say what the K9 is doing, then it is not good evidence.

  • When a cop uses radar, or Lidar he doesn't bring the machine in to court with him. How can he prove his case? The testimony of the one that swore an oath to uphold the law and protect the public, is often enough. In this case the deputy used his tool(the K9) and based off his observations, conducted a search, which turned up drugs. Evidence. When criminals hide behind their rights they make a mockery of your constitution. Its like telling your kids it's ok to be bad, just don't get caught.

  • You are equating apples to oranges. Speeding is not drugs. The testimony of the one that swore the oath is often enough. However, when the penalty to the individual is greater and when the threat of abuse is increased, the oath is not enough. It must be policing that proves beyond a reasonable doubt, not policing that casts serious doubt, or a shadow of doubt. The law abiding public needs to trust that they will not be arbitrarily trampled upon. It is nothing like telling your kids to be bad.

  • So again, it is ok to break the law as long as you don't get caught? How about drunk driving? That's a crime with serious implications. Is is not reasonable for a cop to stop a suspected impaired driver, or to set up check points to check for drunk drivers? Road side screening devices are scientific instruments, but they do not need to be video tapped or reviewed by experts. The reading is not recorded and brought to court. Police are they're to protect us, often from ourselves.

  • No, you are conflating reasonable suspicion with probable cause there.

  • Listen to what you have said, "when criminals hide behind their rights". What is a right? The Constitution does not make a mockery of itself. Society approves of the rights of the accused.

Are you saying that the innocent should have to put up with unreasonable search and seizure of themselves for the good of society?

  • If you get stopped by the police with a kilo of coccaine on your lap, you are guilty of posession. You haven't been convicted yet, but you are guilty. This part is black and white. My feelings are that you should be protected from undue harm, but you have your day in court to explain yourself. Why the officer stopped you should be irrelevant.

Perhaps the way it is works is well for America. Among the highest incarceration, murder, drug consumption rates in the world must only be a coincidence.

  • No, you are only guilty after you are found so by a court of law.

  • But in order for a crime to have taken place their must be Mens Rea. When you know what you are doing is wrong, but do it anyway, you are guilty. If you do something but don't know it is wrong that is innocence. The old saying, he didn't know any better, is a statement of innocence. I knew better is a statement of guilt.

Take OJ Simpson, many people felt he was guilty of the double murders? He was not convicted, so does that mean the majority is wrong to think he is guilty, despite the evidence?

  • Yes, you are right that there is a mens rea requirement. But you have not told the whole story. You are leaving things out. Can you find them?

Further, your definition of mens rea is wrong. You must be an officer, you cannot be a lawyer. You are leaving too much out of the analysis. You need to restudy mens rea after you find out what you have left out (see above).

  • Mens Rea is latin for "a guilty mind" I'm not a lawyer or cop, my area is dogs. Are you refering to Actus Reus as what is missing?

  • Actus Reus is one part. Keep going.

  • actus non facit reum, nisi mens sit rea.

  • You have already stated mens rea and actus reus. Keep working.

A dissertation on the criminal law needs to come from a full understanding of criminal law.

  • Not sure what you're looking for. I'm afraid you've stumped me. I'm not qualified to provide a dissertation on Criminal Law, nor was that my intent. I was merely providing an opinion based on my own experience working around crime and being involved with the criminal justice system. My original comments were made in regards to the behaviour of the K9. I am however, always eager to learn. If you would be willing sudnem, I'd like to know more and perhaps you could show me whats missing. Thanks.
