Why are you saying such a thing, tell me, ah? I suppose, it totally and undoubtedly depends on capability to understand certain perceptions and metaphotic context as the basis of progressive rock music or any other sort of avant-guard movement; if you haven't got the predisposition to adapt it to your mentality, try, please, not to hurt someone who likes this music or sees his life in it.
You're absolutely right! Look at what Page and Plant were doing in the 80s! I think, only Peter Gabriel came out, kind of, "unscathed"... I mean, com'n, if Nirvana (with all respect for their LIRYCS, they're great!), suddenly emerges as, some kind of "Gods of rock"... That's pathetic.
With Hackett barely represented and Peter and Ant being absent altogher, I'm glad this genuis had the good sense to include for the grande finale the most important man in the Genesis legacy, Ray Wilson. Thank you for this lo-fi sampling of still-shots from commonly available Genesis footage.
Love Genesis, but sorry mate, this is poor. You've reduced the soundtrack to mono with keyboard almost in audible. Then added a few random pictures. What the hell for?
Even though the best years of Genesis was certainly with Peter by far, we must not overlook albums like And then there were three or Duke or A trick of a tale. Those albums were life changing for so many people. That music was intense and beautiful at the same time. I still never any music of today that even comes remotely close to what these guys have done in their music careers. Thanks for the video.
some good songs came out of the collins years, but nothing on the scale of SEBTP or TLLDOB came out, so this is not the story of Genesis, change the title or something
WOW, I am impressed! Folks who really KNOW THE REAL GENESIS! Was disappointed to see this isn't a true representation of the Story Of Genesis! hegelec has it right! WTG! BUT, keep adding the Genesis tunes. Signed, A Genesis Fanantic!
WTF are you talking about Baychuk??? Phil was the LAST member to join -- he didn't appear till the third album with Hackett!! The original band was Rutherford, Banks, Gabriel, Chris Stewart, and Anthony Phillips. Phil was actually the 4th drummer to join (after Stewart, John Silver, and John Mayhew!).
So no. He wasn't there from the beginning, and still view him as nothing more than the Genesis drummer who sang a few tunes now and again.
collins banks rutherford are genesis, gabriel was part of the unsuccessful years where no-one really knew the band, they only had a few good songs. with collins they were very consistant and all the music was great, THEY ARE THE BEST BAND EVER collins rutherford banks
MY 2 cents, If Gabriel never did his strange theatrics Maynard from Tool probably wouldnt dress up like a woman or paint one half of his body blue. Sometimes you have to go much deeper in a bands history to see the strong influences in other bands showmanship. If anyone thinks i'm wrong just let me know. Peter Gabriel made early Genesis one of the most influential prog bands of thier time. Thank God for Gabriel.
I have too agree, if there was a reason why i Like Genesis it's because of the fantastic Peter Gabriel. I liked the solo-show of Phil Collins a couple years ago, and ofcours the most succesfull years of Genesis where with Phil but even then.. Gabriel had that something ''more''. annyway, i like this vid, nice tribute annyway
EXACTLY ! That's what I thought I'd be seing ! In my personal view, Genesis' early years were the real Genesis. Years later Phil Colins turned it into something else ... some of it was good, but it never had the same feel again.
You're right, 'Gabriel Years' were Genesis' absolutely best. But still, A Trick of the Tail and Wind & W. had it's moments. And then... there was 'Selling Genesis by the Pound'.
I really would like to know which 70s band continued to be "true to themselves" during the 80s? New sounds and trends put enormous pressures on musicians/performers. Genesis could have done much worse stuff in the 80s. Also: I sense a social issue here: Peter, Mike and Tony are upper class, Phil is not. Anyone: Convince me that this is farfetched...
Sure it is! I was a 14-15 year old Polish kid, who couldn't care less not only about their 'upbringing', but even lyrics (which we, me and my friends, who all were huge Peter fans, didn't understand). If Peter is more sophisticated, it has nothing to do with some 'social ladder'. It's ridiculous.
Well I understand your point. Just keep in mind that the social ladder keeps on being mentioned in biographies, articles, essays and even in interviews by band mambers (even Ray Wilson saw himself as a working class guy working with wealthy upper class people: Mike and Tony). The social issue unfortunately is still very much with us. It should be ridiculous and pathetic, yes! Agreed 100%
they both suck, peter and phil have both put out the most boring music

Because he is a moron. Boring? Wow, you must be a big fan of the likes of Shania Twain and Sarah McLaugh... LOL, whatever.
Are you 8 or 7? It's not quite clear...

Phil Collins is Genesis becuase he was there from the beginning like Rutherford and Banks.

Total bollocks. Phil Collins was there from the third album. What's more, he's a complete wanker.

Exactly, I think Phil was selling hats somewhere in England before he joined Genesis. He also did some small acting jobs as a young lad.

Had the Musical Box. They are only doing one more short run of the early set. The Lamb is retired.

OK, times have change... Back then, we knew very little about bands and singers, and again, we couldn't care less, now... you might be right. Cheers.

Hey, that's pretty nice. Has a decent flow with the song. Haven't heard this snappy studio version in quite some time.
