Compiz on a Unichrome Pro graphic card!!!

hi, i also have a via unichrome integrated video card, with a maxim. of 64 mb.

i tried doing what you say on your description, but when i try starting compiz, my computer restarts...

i'm afraid i do not have the official via drivers, but the openchrome's drivers for via instead.

i would appreciate a lot if you could tell me where to download the official drivers (the exactly direction please), or what else could i do..

i opened the url, went to the integrated graphics sections into the ubuntu linux one, and searched for the driver, but i don't know witch one should i download..

i've got an UniChrome IGP (KM400, KN400) chip

please, help me, because i can't find an answer searching the web, just like you

I have no idea to be honest, I did some research and found out that graphics card is quite old and was the first to be called 'Unichrome'. Maybe you should just try some of the drivers and test which one works?

Yep, but it doesn't really matter, it should work since 7.04.

Ok, I'll give it a go and see if this works for me I have a laptop I use Ubuntu on and it has a fairly good CPU and one gig of ram, but the graphics card is a Unichrome pro I hope I can get some nice desktop effects out of it.

I wouldn't say 'nice', but you'll be able to get some effects like wobbly windows, desktop cube, etc.

I was thinking about to buy a VIA PC for HTPC, but if this is the performance of their graphics cards, I don't want to think about their low TDP CPUs.

Can you play x264 HD videos on it?

Yeah, the card is really slow, and not any good really.

You better buy a intel video card, they're the best supported for compiz.

I'm afraid I don't know about HD, but I think you'll need a special card for that.

NO NOT INTEL, NVIDIA. I have ubuntu on an intel based computer and Nvidia does a much better job. trust me.

Yeah the video card sucks, but some laptops have it built-in, like my old amilo pro.
