I remember Rex Harrison singing it to the seal. This is the version I am looking for. It is one of these songs you hear only once and remember forever.
This song is meant to be sung slow - as it was in Dr. Doolittle with Rex Harrison. Diana Krall's version is very haunting, very serene and actually very sexy as well.
Love love love Diana, she was "just" a jazz pianist for so long. Only later in her career did she add that extraordinary voice. Love love love this xo
2:00 PM @Lunch...her eyes ...i can see her eyes now while she is miles away...those eyes where i can see the future, the world, the dreams,...Those eyes ...My destination...

It was written by Lestie Bricusse as one of the tunes he wrote for the original 1967 Doctor Dolittle Movie. Rex Harrison (Dr.Dolittle) sang it to a seal named Sophie. I always thought this tune would make a great jazz ballad, but could never find anyone who knew the tune or cared to learn it. Loved it 40+ years ago and still love it today. Thanks to Diana Krall for bringing it back to life!
Did you know this was in the original Dr Doolittle and Rex Harrison sang it to Sophie a seal. And that the last words are not as sung by Ms Krall 'eyes' reveal', but are in fact 'it's a pity you're a seal'. How amusing.
This song takes me back to a time in my life, so surreal. filled with reckless excitement, laughter and tears. It has been near ten years and I still choose to believe that even if for the briefest of moments I saw a reflection of love for me in his eye. Like a match, it burned fast, bright and then was gone. I've learned to accept that moment as neither a blessing nor regret; rather, it simply was a moment shared.
LfBvoice, if you can sing this better than Krall I will fly you to come play it with me, but first I would need to hear some evidence. I certainly hope you can capture the feel, the dynamics and her intersubjective interplay with the tear jerking guitar...
@kumhuiguitargirl It took a month to come up with this response! I wasn't directing my original comment to you as you did to me. It is simply my opinion and since you went there...THE TRUTH.
She doesn't scat or anything but, her voice is so soothing and beautiful and I love how effortlessly she can sing low notes on any of her songs. And what a beautiful face. I envy her.
QUITE SIMPLY-YUCK!!!!!! Check out Linda Eder if you really want to hear a singer, not this horrible voice which can barely get this or any other song out. I can't sing and I could rival this version.
@50sheriff65 Really? I sang it last night as my himalayan cat sat on my chest and stared into my eyes with her beautiful blue ones. And having put a 25 year old cat to sleep a couple of months ago, I realized that is the last thing I do with them.
I always thought this was an Alan and Marilyn Bergman song.....I'll be damned!

This song is perfect for HBO's TrueBlood.
Especially, for Sookie Stackhouse and Eric Northman.
I would so love to see a video made of this song with photos of them looking
into each other's eye's. Eric's eyes tell hundred's of stories.
And it's also where he keeps his secrets.

El brillo suave de las estrellas en tus ojos.
Cuando miro en tus ojos...
En tus ojos , veo la profundidad del mar
Veo la profundidad del amor..."
