  • Ah, how I remember this classic short so well! :)

  • Ahhh the memories of 70's sesame street:)It was way cooler back then:)

  • hI, DO YOU KNOW WHAT YEAR THIS IS FROM?

    tHANKS

    R

  • Still, I'd rather eat there any day over Taco Bell.

  • I Loooove YOutube! I was trying to remember a sequence about cooking Mexican food from my childhood. My memory felt very PBS-ish, so I looked up reading rainbow with enchilada, then sesame street with enchilada and Boom! I found it!

I love this sequence. It always made me wanna eat mexican food too. Rice and beans, the rich enchiladas. Soooo tasty!

  • i think i'd like to see the outtakes from this clip....dad burning his hand in the fryer, the kids dropping the food, Noelle getting bitched at at the market for breaking the scale, etc.

  • Man how things change. Nowadays, you need a shitload of things just so your not in violation of health codes!!

  • LOL I love how they promote child labor! When I was a kid I totally wanted to work in a restaurant because of this clip.

  • @RaeFalk me too!

  • Holy shit I totally remember this lol!

  • Tengo hambre ahora. I love living in California.

  • Oh yeaah! I remember this!

  • Man this is making me HUNGRY!!! I wonder if they also do one of my ALL-TIME-FAVORITES.. Fajitas!?

  • The waitress looks just like my ex-girlfriend. q_p

  • I LOVE TACOS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This always makes me hungry!

  • After watching this I'm gonna have Mexican food for dinner!

  • Wow! How old is this? I'm 31 and I swear I remember this from back in the day!

  • @maganaonline Likewise. I remember this from the early 80's.

  • Fresh farmer's market! :D

  • I LOVE THE BEAT OF THE MUSIC

  • We've got a lot of little authentic Mexican places like this in Detroit as there is a Mexicantown there on the southwest side. Great food!

  • @kobraf150 the food there rocks :)

  • Because Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush ( Carrie) on Little House on the Prairie are Mexican.

  • Greenbush Mexican Food.

  • What's the name of this place? Where is it?

  • cheese trace-a-dace.

  • Is this from '77 ?

  • @gottaloveaz it's from '87.

  • I remember this from ages ago and Noelle the kid is a girl I have a cat named Noelle haha I love tacos but since I'm not to fond of chicken wouldn't like the enchaladas would love to know how the resteraunt is doing now

  • NOT food safe at 2:36!! :D

  • if i worked there and caught that kid eating a hand full of cheese while preparing the food, i would of slapped the crap out of him

  • @noreaga12326 I would slap him if he was an adult! Since he is a kid I would just warning not do that again.

  • This brings old memories. i use to watch this all the time and who i knew that i would become a cook one day. i cook kid goat (cabrito) as well as other culinary disciplines. Thanks for posting this.

  • LOL - Kid at :46 eating cheese off his bare hand while preparing, his friend @ 1:00 kneeling on the prep counter WITH HIS SHOES ON. Yeah - I'll be eating there tomorrow.

  • @quirpco thats right...because you've never done questionable things in the kitchen and your perfect

  • @Emmjaye4life Nope, I'm far from perfect. But I was taught at a young age how to keep a clean kitchen, especially in a public restaurant.

  • I want to go to this restaurant...anyone know where it is?

  • Wow, Penquin! Is this place open still? I want to go now.

  • im hungery

  • wow i remember watching this when i was a kid...and I am obsessed with mexican food now bc of it

  • Lol

  • Thats My Family Restaurant!!

  • Really, Penquin? How cool! I remember watching this as a kid and being so envious of the two children in the video. I used to pretend to make enchiladas and "serve" them to whomever would listen ;)

  • You thats My Brother the Mexican Kid lol and My Dad is the Cook!!!

  • @penquin323

It must be awesome for your family to OWN and run a Restaurant.

  • Unfortunately, running your own laissez-faire (including a restaurant) is extremely difficult, because it's not just the labor you have to be concerned about. I took a business class before, and the money you make from the business needs to go back into the business, for such expenses like rent, taxes, insurance, bookkeeping, hydro, and inventory.

  • @DanaAbel30

    Yeah... I knew that...

Owning great things do come with their prices

  • That's very true.

  • @penquin323 Is it still in Business? Where is located which State and town?

  • @penquin323 It still still opened or is closed down?

  • @penquin323 Seriously? No way. SERIOUSLY?

  • I would be furious if these two kids carried my food out. Furious!

  • Well that Kid in the Red Sweater is my Brother!! His 36 NOW! It was my Dad's Restaurant

  • @penquin323, so what's the name of the restaurant and what's going on with it now?

  • Unfortunately, it's legal, because it's a FAMILY-owned restaurant. So there's nothing you'd be able to do about it.

  • Does this video violate child labor laws?

    (i'm being serious)

  • shouldn't that guy wear gloves when making the food?

  • He should, because that's a major health code regulation.

  • mmmm.... tacos..... saucy... uhuhuhuuhuhhuhh,,,,

  • I don't remember seeing this when I was a kid, I think I was too old for SS when it was made. I do however recognize 2 of the boys. I would have known it was them, even if I hadn't been told ahead of time. They look the same(only older now). one is 30something, the other is 40. But they still both have the same smiles as when they were kids. Oh for those who don't know, it was in LA, not NYC.

  • @ktmh68

If you're right, I wouldn't be surprised. This doesn't feel like New York. No reason I can put into words, but it feels different from much of the rest of Sesame Street, which has always been heavily NYC-based.

  • @Marbles471 The customers ordering are my brother-in-law and his mom. One of the little boys is his younger brother.

  • @ktmh68

    I'll be damned. =)

What year is this? Approximately, anyway. It looks to me like the late '70s or early '80s.

  • @Marbles471 Episode 2341 - April 27, 1987

  • @cesariojpn

Oh, I know, I have that episode. But I don't think this film originates from that one. It seems older than that.

  • @Marbles471

Checked the Muppet Wikia, thats the EKA for the clip.

  • @cesariojpn

I know, but keep in mind that Muppet Wikia only goes by what can be absolutely confirmed. I've seen quite a few "EKA" dates that are very obviously not the actual first appearances of the clip in question, and the Wikia people surely know it too, but they have to go with it because its actual first appearance isn't known.

  • Whew! I just barely remembered this one, but it made me hungry! LOL!

  • Aw, how cute. I love mexican food and this is making me craving some right now lol.

  • "many of our customers come verrry stoned...on marijuana from the same mexican market where dad buys peppers!"imagine dad smokin a doob in the back ground while the kids are on lunch break, lol

  • Don't like Mexican Food? Oh well, by the way so somebody sells wierd flavored ice cream as a novelty, Remember Jones Soda sold Turkey Dinner soda, do you not drink soda because of it?

What about Garlic Ice cream, do you not ice cream either? It's sold too!

If you think a burrito is gross, what do you think of hot dogs and burger patties made of ground odds and ends... what about sausage?

Grow up and don't jump to ignorant assumption based on a novelty.

  • If you don't like it, then don't tell the rest of us about it.

  • YES!!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!!!!

I'm only 26 and it makes me feel like an old man, I used to watch this shit ALL THE TIME when I was a little boy! Such good times!!

  • I'd forgotten all about this clip! It used to make me want Mexican food everytime it came on!

  • I can totally relate. I'm a Mexican food-aholic.

  • yes please make me some two I'm hungry.

  • makes me want a quesadilla now.

  • Well this is just a clip of the basics of how a Mexican restaurant is run for kids to understand. How to properly manage a restaurant takes training and skills at a certified college or cooking school. As for the board of health, I'm pretty sure kids know how to wash their hands (as seen on another SS clip). With regards to sanitation in the kitchen (clearing out the fridge, cleaning the ovens, food cost, inventory, etc), it gets pretty complicated.

  • is that in new york or LA i assume it's NY because it's sesame street but then again Mexicans are way more common in LA than NY especially in the 70's when almost all of the Latinos in NY were Puerto Ricans

  • This clip used to make me hungry, the music still fits with food :) but that deep fryer is where i loose my appetite :P

  • kid: Enchaladas And Tacos

  • Father: Okay, Enchaladas and Tacos, coming up.

  • Actually the kid says "enchiladas y tacos" and the father translated to English for the camera.

  • Dad's secret sauce....

  • ii would order that with no refired beans at all :)

  • Haha, yeah and from the looks of it, something is wrong with dad!!

OMG, it's Sesame Street for goodness sake! We are awful!

  • my thought's exactly!!!

  • I bet it's so secret, even he doesn't know what's in it.

  • Three cheers for Mexican food!(except re-fried beans)

  • same here

  • I know it's just a clip from SS but would you guys want to eat at that place with little kids preparing and serving the food???? Check out the little girl eating the cheese!!!! Hello, Board of Health???

  • i think thats a boy

  • Not sure. The kid refers to his friend as Noel so I thought it must be a girl

  • it is a male

  • I won't mind its a family owned restaurant. What do you expect. Its kind of cute kids helpinga fmaily own restaurant. Its better Fast Food restaurant

  • Comment removed

  • Thank goodness some one else noticed that. Not so much the kids preping the food, but the fact that one shoved a fist full of cheese in his mouth as it was being grated to serve to other people. I would have smacked him upside the head if I caught him doing that.

  • this ones great

  • You know, I find old films and cartoons from Sesame Street all the time that I remember here on YouTube. This took me a while to realize it but I remember this too. love Mexican food.

  • ah, small businesses of america

  • I remember watching this clip as a child! I always found it interesting watching clips like this and the one about how a crayon is made. Brings back a lot of fond memories. Now I'm hungry for some tacos :)

  • aww I forgot about this...

  • I'm glad I just ate. This clip is making me hungry. I want to see the clip where the boy talks about his dad who makes chinese noodles.

  • You know that clip is on Volume 2 of the Old School DVDs?

  • This is not the way "real Mexican enchiladas are made and neither the tacos. I recommend you guys type authentic mexican food or Mexican tacos or enchiladas or " comida mexicana " to know the real Mexican food.

  • chelsea, knock it off. this is sesame street, not martha stewart.

  • you know what? I don't care if is not Martha Stewart, unfortunately a lot of people think Mexican food is Taco Bell, well you know what then if you like it this way, or taco bell way then, suit yourself and enjoy it. But it is not authentic Mexican food.

  • Perhaps this family had their own unique way of making tacos and enchiladas. I didn't think there was any set standard on how "real" mexican food was to be prepared.

  • Arevireba's right, Chelsea. So it may not be perfect right to the way you hope it'll be. So what?? Everybody has their own style.

  • It's called Tracy Hamilton Mexican Restaurant.

  • im half spanish and I love mexican food

  • So do I, both times. I don't love Mexican food, I CRAVE it.

  • mexican food is so good im a quesadilla guy myself

  • this made me so hungry lol

  • I love mexician food. Even though I'm not hispanic, my favorite are enchiladas where we mix it with chicken, cheese, and green chiles. We top it with spicy chili sauce and cheese and call it "Red Devil Enchiladas" simply from my days of high school football and the parties we threw.

  • You should try mexican cornbread.

  • You mean the "placenta". Yeah, I love the stuff.

  • How spicy were they?

  • Pretty mild to medium. Green chiles aren't as spicy as jalepnos, but the cheese and chicken melt in your mouth.

  • But jalapenos aren't the hottest peppers in the world. Those would be the "Habaneros".

  • I thought that too but actually, the ghost chile is ten times hotter than the habanero. I saw that on Man vs Food

  • Hmm. That's interesting. I never knew that.

  • I love real mexican food and this clip makes my mouth water. I remember watching it when I was little and now my kids love it too.

  • My Favorite Mexican Food is tacos, fajitas, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, and quesadilla. And why use black olives for luck?

  • That's probably just the way the family prepares their food.

  • This clip ALWAYS made me hungry, even if I'd just eaten.

  • me too..I'm 7 months pregnant and I want to find one like this here in VEgas!

  • This is such a great clip, I remember I loved it so much when I was a kid! It's great that the children featured were shown at a young age how to run a business.

  • One of my favorite clips. It reminds me so much of my childhood years living in Los Angeles.

  • This is such a wonderful chance to see a family own business do something worthwhile since most of the restaurants are usually chain-type and fast food. I wondered if they still own the restaurant still or did their children take over the family business in New York City? And also what is the name of that restaurant?

  • The name of the restraunt is Guadalajara Restaurant. I know there is one a mexican restaurant by the same name in Westchester. It would be nice to think this family buisness has survived after all these years, and not torn down or bought out by McDonalds or Taco Bell

  • @waddleduckie1 the restaurant was in LA, not NYC. I don't know if it is still there or not. My brother-in-law and his mom are the customers, and one of the little boys is his younger brother. He also did the voice over for the little boy who's family owned the restaurant because he could not speak clearly enough to be understood. He was very young.

  • "my dad's secret sauce"? XDDD

    okay...I'll stop now.

  • CHILD LABOR 0:52

I couldn't resist. This is great. So...mutedly stereotypical?

  • Family business. It's exempt.

  • this food looks tasty but no thanks i just don't like mexican food or tacos

  • I always get hungry for Mexican food watching this segment!! The music sounds a lot like the music in Napoleon Dynomite

  • Where are the 2 boys here Maybe they could come with me to the zoo.

  • My favorite Mexican food is nachos. What is every one eles favorite?

  • soft shelled tacos with chese and meat

  • i just want a soft shelled taco right now just watching this.

    love ali

  • i love this

  • My Sister and I love this one...We used to just sit and drool over this one when we were younger...

    I want some Taco's NOW!

  • i just love watching this

  • so do i

  • This does make me hungry, but for REAL Mexican food like in this skit-not that Taco Bell crap.

  • And from what I've heard Taco Bell falls under the Tex-Mex category..

  • Taco Bell falls under the crap that makes you take a crap category

  • Is this from what 1975 ?

    maybe it is.

  • i love that little boy is so cute

  • Well, it makes me hungry for Mexican food for sure, but I'd also like a lovely Mexican waiter dude to bring it out to me. Ha! LOL

  • i have been looking for this sesame street video!! thank you!! love it

  • i want sa dragonberry margarita, hold the alcohol

  • I remember watching this when I was little, and feeling very hungry afterwards. Thanks for downloading.
