They don`t the meaning of a fair fight always use weapons they think every foreigner is rich and are jealous! I have been visiting Thailand for about 8 years now & have seen a steady rise in the fights/problems. A large part of Thailand's economy is driven by tourism, unfortunately a large percent of the tourists are there for two things & two things only; sex & alcohol/foolishy drunkardness. While the farang have pushed the locals to defend themselves, I don't like to see when the locals gang up on people (even if they deserve it). There are two sides to every coin.
@mrslapmeister they smile for the money its advertisement and marketing, some of them i found out dont even get to see their family because they choose to become a part of the working for tourist group so much, they are away from home alot. but i believe the smile is fake, ive contemplated on this several times.
The thing for westerners to know is that the Thais fight many-to-one to gain the advantage & there's no such thing as honor or rules when it comes to fighting. The Thais probably believe in the saying "all is fair in love and war "..& as such a beer bottle makes a good weapon. If the Brits had stayed any longer, they would probably be killed. i lived in thailand for a while.. i would say a lot of thai are of course after money, some are very racist towards farang.. however i have also met some very nice, great thai people... i think the majority of tourist who go there are pieces of crap and most of them deserve to be beaten up. but if you compare say bangkok and any western city, you would see that bangkok is a lot safer then pretty much every western city that there is.

Also the Thais were obviously involved in a bar for tourists so they are clearly happy to take the tourist money. Everyone is part of the same situation. As you live in the UK I have to wonder why you automatically are against the Brits who are being attacked.
