  • i thing is a lifter

  • u can tell rite away its coming frm the block..

  • To much turbo for that shit engine...

  • Hey Targ4life...whats your psi on th....FPR? For this LS motor...main cap bearings via the crankshaft what size did you use?

  • knock knock knocking on hondas dooorss lol

  • souds like shit!!!

  • i bet the colour of your oil was terrible lol

  • i know this is fixed and i read what the problem was.... but just by ear of a youtube video its impossible to tell. coulda been a rod knock, piston rock as the problem turned out to be, majority of the time its just chattery valves as thats a common issue with hondas. anyways glad you fixed it and hope your drivin hard!

  • u should take it for a ride and rev it up a few time.....lol

  • Dude whats the deal with your fuel....for example if you were to TURN your FPR clockwise you would be leaning it out...visa versa the opposite way. Injectors are sticking or gummed up and, so of not delivering the fuel at its optimum performance while its pulsing the spray pattern per each cylinder.

"A very overlooked problem on HONDas". :)

  • hey man, off topic but what turbo mani is that? I just bought one for $50, and it looks EXACTLY like that, im doing a budget build, its not cracked or anything so i figured I couldn't beat the price. how do you like yours?

  • someone`s knockin

  • piston slap,wrist pin,I'm assuming lash is correct,rockers etc.

  • what is that knocking noice coming sounds like a pump or a belt

  • if u didnt find the problem really could be just a lifter that needs 2 be tightened

  • i love the headers you got on there haha, shit is clean

  • Wow!!! This engine sounds like shit!!!!! it sounds like my 1993 geo metro!!!!

  • You def right but does sound like a really bad tick.

  • that same shit happened to my b18 b its definitely a rod bearings sorry to tell you that nice set up though

  • i was gonna say piston slap before i read the comments and info..... sounded jus like my celica. same noise different outcome, broken bearing...

  • @mattydohan ajajajaja u were wrong. u sound like a stupid piece of garbage. It's funny when ppl claim to know something and get proven so wrong, makes u wanna stick a needle in your arm huh.?

  • im pretty sure theres a ticking bomb ready to explode. happend to my car, i got a bomb squat to disactivate it. ;D

  • You need new tires, then you'll be in bussines.

  • @southernclassik maybe an oil change as well, i died when i read this hahaha

  • air debitmeter, sonda lambda, something like this

  • acetabulum

  • spun bearing

  • thats healthy

  • ok.....people......before u post saying whats wrong with it...its already fixed!

  • Most likely a spun bearing, does it have a hard time trying to start?

  • What is the piston/wall suppossed to be? I've been thinking mine is to loose but it doesn't make any noise and has been going strong almost 7 years.

  • bent valves.

  • hey might be a spun bearing they say that when get turbo ur suppose to let it break in for a month wich mean driving it normal before u start really running it, but idk man just trying to help you

  • good to hear you ot it all fixed up, and nice numbers, usually hondas produce so little tq. but yours did good!

  • 290 tq is fucking good man.

I got a stock ls t that made 314/280tq. my old ls v made 307/220tq

  • blown?

  • that sucks

  • sounds like a piston to me man and you probably shouldnt be reving it like that unless you have that kinda money

  • That Head is Fudged .........LOL

  • ah sound like rod knock duude...oh.. i read the info u said its piston ok

  • yup you really wouldnt know till its apart but if i heard that shit will i was driving i would think the problem would most likely be somthing along the lines of connecting rod journal or piston wrist pin.

  • definitly your head valves

  • definitely wasn't......please read before you post....

  • @Targa4life hi , so how did you fixed the problem?

  • @mattydohan

mm ... i'm gonna be a massive douche, not read any info or item description. claim im a mechanic that works for Honda and tell you what your problem "DEFINITELY" is. "Head valves bro. . ."

    fuck youtube mechanics...

    nice car btw

  • I would have thought it was piston related. I was working on a Galant VR-4 with a broken wrist pin that made a sound very similar to this. You never know what it is till you tear it apart again! Congrats on your 2nd at Targa.

  • Sorry but its a sleeved 84mm ls vtec with ported head CP pistons, eagle rods, RC 750cc injectors, etc, etc, this is not a "stock" motor. But I guess you would know.....

  • hahaha thats great....love the car but might wan2 check valvetrain

  • 100% wrong......

  • u know you love the fact every one is a youtube engine builder

haha this shit was funny tho

bad ass engine build tho glad to see you got everything worked out

  • 100% valves

  • fucking valves fuck

  • check your head! Valves.....

  • are people to stupid to realize that u put what was wrong in the info AND that u fixed it?

  • Too much blow-by, rings r... fried

  • it's a rod knock.

  • what kind of pistons were in it when this ticking happened...

  • CP Pistons, Golden Eagle sleeves. This is why I don't bore to the max off the start. Always leave room for shit to go wrong.... sigh...

  • At least you weren't stupid and caught it before it really fucked things up. I mean its still fucked but it's fixable. Did you end up using the same block and reboring and new pistons ect...?

  • Yeah, It was 82mm but I bored it out to 84mm. Block was still good. Its a sleeved GE block. It was 317whp before I rebuilt it. After the rebuild it went to 330whp and 290ft lbs. Engines been fine ever since. Getting ready for Targa 2009 now.

  • that shit is funny every diff person says its defintley sumin else other than wat it was. lol lo lo l ol

  • wow. deff a piston rockin

  • I know everyone is trying to help but I posted what this was like a year ago... It was too little piston to wall clearance causing excessive piston wear until it began tipping badly within the bore.

  • sounds like your rocker arm is lose pop the valve cover and check them it happen to me before

  • Thats a lifter,Same exact sound my car made when lifter went bad.

  • that shyt is fawxkedddd eassayyyy!

shut it off before the poor thing dies!!!

oh and yeh def a rod,or head or bearing...or maybe a kitten got in your turbo...lolzz...

  • its the big end bearin the car is fucked

  • its a valve i dont remember whats its doin but my buddy had the same problem after a race but i forgot what he said it was i think he said its was like stickin or somethin

  • definitely not rod knock. Sounds like something in the head. Have you been able to fix it yet?

  • sounds like rods or rod bearings.

ls/vtec have problems all the time

  • check ur exhaust manafold o rings ther bearin an then de oil pressure it might not be getting a nuff oil v tech`s burn alot of oil as it is

  • Targa4life,

Start looking for another b18a/b bottom end. Your rods/crank are now fucked. If you ran low on oil and it started knocking, i suggest you don't ever start this block again before you fuck up your head.

  • UR PISTONS ARE FUCKED UP

never turbocharge a Honda only the NSX-R

  • never say never about honda shit you don't know.,

BTW: jdm is the new rice.

  • deffenately a spun bearing if u keep on runnin it like that ull blow ur bottom end

  • its your bottom end. You can try to fix it...or just buy a ls bottom end and keep the top. Rod Bearings

  • My guess, Rod Bearings, Lucky for you only sounds like one though

  • ouch u will cry when u look in the oil pan nice little bits :P

  • Piston skirt slap sound to me....

  • it sounds like a valvue is broken cause it happend to mu cuzins gsr moter so i think u should check the valves unless it might be the setting on the engine it might be off cause that might be it as well.

  • ;))

     sounds like ur gettin' bitchslap

  • It's def a rod bearing drop the oil pan and take a look at your rod bearings I've spun a few already hopefully your crank is fine but I dought it luckly its always happened to me on the dyno so I always caught in time

  • spun rod bearing !

  • first question. is the motor buil;d? like rods? or is it stock, cause it could be your rod bearings, or like some of the guys said stetched rod pins... bud yeah thats a knock for sure... i wouldn't run it till you got it fixed, might have to pull the motor or oil pan so you can check to see if your rod bearings are good.....

  • i say if your gonna keep running it and reving it before you look into it you should hand it to me! and it sounds like valves to me, id check springs and retainers

  • could be a rod knock, streched rod bolts spun berring, possibly a rist pin, you have to look in to it

  • yea probaly the valve is bent sounds like toda cams lol v8 engine

  • dude i think u need a new engine

  • I think youve drop a 10mm socket in the spark plug hole haha..! Noo.. seriuously the rough idle sounds to me like a vaccum hose crack ou loose..!! if not your pressure regulator is probably to high..! And for the pinging well this is probably a bent valve..!i would take a little 3 hour and take that all apart just to check everything out..!

    Valve Clearence:

    IN:0.17-0.22(0.007-0.009)

    EX:0.22-0.27(0.009-0.011)

    have fun :P

PS: take the 10mm socket out at the same time haha

  • one of your valves is loose maybe even more then one or your piston is touching the block wall idk but itz one of those 2

  • this might sound dumb but its tru. Put a wooden stick (mop, broom stick) to the motor while its running and put it to your ear cover your other ear and check around the motor the part thats the loudest thats where its coming from. That sound could be anywhere from a rod knock, to a valve tap,(stuck valve hitting piston) even a clutch prssure plate or a throw-bearing so just do that test then lemme kno how it goes.

  • or you can just get a screw driver of Phillips head and do it with that

  • rod bearing

  • ive been there bro.. been through 2 motors already cuz of that.. just dont run it if you still havnt fixed it.. trust me you dont want a gaping hold in the side of your block.. that motor looks pretty pricey

  • i think you dropped some marbles in your valve cover!

  • yah my old stock motor in my Vx sounded like that for about 2 weeks before i blew a hole in both sides of the block and oil pan..

  • i had a similar sound.... i thought my motor was done for... took off my valve cover and noticed that one of the cam gear bolts was loose... crazy sh!t...

  • Mine was doing the samething thursday through the rod right through the block. So if you didn't take care of it you will be getting a new block soon like me. btw don't be rude to people when they offer help when you ask for it. Jayaskoo probaly has been there like me.

  • This turned out to be really bad piston slap caused by the piston to wall clearances being to tight. Pistons and cylinder walls ruined, very bad on cylinder #2 !!!!

  • my car did the same thing i kpt driving it. and it lost compression and it threw a rod right out the block no bull shit

  • thats a rod

  • From experience that sounds like a Spun Rod Bearing, but could be anything.

  • right so at idle your ecu is sending out a certain timing for your distributor and as you increase your rpm it sends out different timing to adjust for piston speed as in advancing it or retarding it i would check with a timing light it should be anywhere from 14-16 degrees but definitly stop driving it like that you could be damaging your pistons with detonation

  • that definitly sounds like valves hitting your pistons you checked the valves but are you positive on you timing it could also be detonating you might wanna check your distributor timing as well could just have to be retarded other than that i dont know

  • I pulled each injector off one at a time and it never changed the sound at all. Also did a compression test and everything was perfect. 170 right across no difference. This sound only happens at idle and when the motor is under load. When you let the motor drag it disappears. Also, I have been driving the car (not easy driving) for like 500kms like this and it hasn't gotten any worst or better.... Could this be a wrist pin? I don't know what that would sound like...

  • hello hi i got the same problem i change from b16 to ls/vtec thinking the my block was bad and the problem still we replace everything from rods,pistons,timing,w/pump oil pump everything inside the block is new all bearing w/micro polish crank I'm about to give up cus idk what it is any help is appreciated it
