@trouttracker13 My grandfather caught thousands of them on Red Devil spoons. Generally they hit the same lures that Bass hit... Spoons, senkos, spinners are what I use... many surface lures work well to. They like the same kinds of cover that bass do too, but they're not as shy about shallow or fast moving water. I think it comes down to population too. In the river I fish they outnumber bass 10 to 1, so I catch them all the time. In the deeper, slower creeks I catch mostly bass.
got a pond behind are house all thats in there all of them avg bout a foot and half biggest one i ever cought was just under maby 2 1/2 feet they fight good to that makes it fun
I have lost a lot of little frogs to the chain pickerel's teeth, even sliced up a finger on their teeth a few times. All worth it for the fun and excitement.
I really like using a red 5" senko for pickerel. Well almost anything with red it just seems to make them go crazy. Great fun
are people half retarded saying pickerel are walleye, at least google it, stupidity is just not acceptable when all you have to do is open another tab and google it!
I would be most happy to catch that fish. 2 quick fillet cuts and 2 y bone v cuts& you have 4 boneless fillets of some fine white firm good tasting fish for the pan..
Biggest pickeral I ever saw caught was a 9 1/2 lb. 27 1/2" inch. Caught in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts by my dad using live shiner & float. Huge fish in that lake.
Went to Northfarms today...damn...that place is TOUGH to fish....so much SLOP still around..did see a few kayakers...only weedless and top water...forget cranks forget rattletraps...
Man I'm shaking my head and laughing at how stupid you people sound trynna name the fish. It's either a pike or a chain pickerel. Pickerels are NOT Walleyes in any way...they're just called Pickerels from Canadian terms but they are in no way related to the Pike family. Need proof? Go search Pickerel on Google and you tell me those pics and info shows a WALLEYE! Feel dumb now eh?
@jon12021 pickerel are NOT related to walleye dude, not even close pickerel are in the SAME family as pike, wish people would do some research before claiming to have a clue
it is a pike and its a small pike at that. pickerel is the proper name for a walleye but many people call a pickerel a pike in the usa for some odd reason.
It is 1000% a chain pickeral, not a pike. Walleye are not Pickeral nor Pike. Walleye are actually more closely related to Perch than Pickeral or Pike. Nonetheless, the fish caught in this video is a Chain Pickeral.
@skibum5722 lol sweet dude, if i was fishing for those i think i would think it was a baby northern pike or musky when it was in the water, i cant really tell the difference between em, besides a slight dotted difference on the side.
@ChrisH11515 no im with you a pickerel and walleye are the same thing. pickerel is the propper name and the people posting this video are not fisherman because they think this tiny 2 lbs pike is big.
walleye and pickerel are not even closely related. Walleye are members of the perch family, while chain pickerel and their larger cousins the northern pike are both members of the pike family....
lately all i've been catching oscar in a hole where i used to catch 5lb+ bass all day long.. i must of threw about 40oscars on land already :l (you can say thats inhumane bu i'd rather them die then all the bass die :l)
nice fish man. don't use your good frogs on those picks though, definitely use something like a paddle tail worm and rip it across the top. I've lost hollow body frogs and plastic frogs alike to a feisty pickerel.
wanna see a truely GIANT chain pickerel????? Go to Scranton Lake in SCranton PA...... I am POSITIVE there is a WORLD record in this lake.... why??? NO FISHING ALLOWED!!!! huge schools of shad or herring..... and I have caught MANY picks that topped 5 pounds!!!! WARNING: a trespassing fine here will cost you 500 bucks
i thought is was a pike too, until i took a closer look it is a pickerel, it is an average one though but good fishany way. i was wondering any tips to fishing those frogs i have one but never caught any thing on it, thanks
definitely a chain pickerel. a nice one. you almost had him !!!!!

Don't see the need for bait casting tackle when using senkos. Just my opinion.
