In fact, shooting yourself is one of the most cowardly things a person can do because they don't have the balls to face the world and deal with the consequences of their actions. By shooting himself, Model did our job for us. What would have taken balls is for him to go down fighting.

@ThugCologne Luftwaffe also had units to do fortification-works,mecanics,s­ignal,mess,supplies,ground crews for AA and for planes...There was a lot of units to make it work, we only see such famous units like paratroopers but they are not alone :)

luftwaffe is a part of the wehrmacht. Wehrmacht includes heer (specifically the army), luftwaffe, and kriegsmarine.
