  • A ten minute clip of which the first 3min 25 sec is a talking head giving a weather report for the date in London, and saying hi to his pals? The actual amp is filmed with a handheld, annoying movement and shake etc. No music and an oblique ref to"a massive transformer" and a "couple of nice transformers", sigh totally unwatchable.

Question: The military radio operator who started the company specifically chose the name Trio, why? And why was it phased out for Kenwood? (I know but do you?)

  • @FedUpLurker

Sorry you did not enjoy my video - but its a free country

  • I inherited this from my father years ago and it's probably one of the best amps i've had. Better than many modern equivalents, considering it was marketed as a budget amp in 1976!

However the power light no longer indicates and you have to pull on the volume button at an angle or hit the amp itself to get sound out on occasion. It's sad that i'm going to have to chuck it out and buy a modern equivalent.

  • @TweeSpam

    Hi

Sorry to hear you have decided to get rid of the amp - sounds like it could be fixed.

    Warm regards

    Richard

  • Trio was used in uk as ther is a uk firm called kenwood you will find the same modal under the kenwood name abord i think thay got pormisen use the kenwood name in uk in the late 1980's.

  • @g7npl

Thanks for the comment and history, the name has a history going back to 1946 following the second world war.

    Warmest regards

  • That's one hell of an amp. Pick a few thousand of those out of the dump and you could use them as bricks for a house!

With a excellent built in stereo...

  • Lennon

Say that again - and the house would sound great.

  • Hi Richard - it looks like a really nice quality amp.

I seem to recall the "Trio" brand persisting in this country was to do with the Kenwood name being long established as manufacturers of kitchen appliances. It was owned by Thorn electronics. Presumably some deal was done between Thorn and Trio-Kenwood to allow them to import hifi etc. branded as Kenwood later on.

  • Nice amplifier! Very high quality. I think I have seen the Kenwood version of this one some time ago on Ebay.

  • @batterymaker

Bill you are so right - I feel i got a bargain - I had a clue as my dad had a Trio when we were stationed in Munster Germany I was just a boy and the kit was good so hence my interest .

  • Hi Richard! That Trio/Kenwood amp is very nice. The name Trio was abandonned in Canada in favour of Kenwood during the 60's but it's all the same gear of course. Who knows why they continued to Trio in the UK. I believe your amp to be from 1977 as I have in my office what I think is the next model up, the KA-3500. It certainly has the same knobs but with different DNA. I really like it with great sound quality for the size and price!

  • @bluenazz

    Craig

Thank you for dating this amp I will change the date to say 1976. I could look it up on the internet - to get a better date.

    Warm regards

    Richard

  • Arkwright? I think you mean Open All Hours! The till always slams shut and nearly has his fingers off!

Great amplifier! Looks sturdy and robust - waiting for Pt. 2 now ;)
