I passed out at my best friends 30th birthday party one night in the house in which I lived. An abusive ex showed up and took a homemade tattoo gun and tattooed me to be his for life. I had refused the offer earlier because I didn't want a prison tattoo given with a used needle. Eight people were infected with Hepatitis C that night, including me. One guy has died, I cleared the virus and am incredibly lucky. Lesson? Never pass out at a party.

I live in the south and I have seen a number of people over the years with a cross tattooed in the same spot. It also has a small hash mark floating in each corner of the cross. These are supposed to represent fire and therefore a burning cross. And we all know what that means.

Why is there not a test you need to take to become a parent?
Putting a tattoo on kids below the legal age to get one and using the same tool on all of them to do it, and I'm willing to bet that it wasn't even sterilized either. Not to mention doing it to another persons kids as well further adding more of a health issue on there.

This is actually really interesting in regarding what parents can and cannot do to children. If it's not okay to tattoo your child, is it okay to pierce their ears? I've seen babies just 1 or 2 years old with pierced ears.
What about circumcision? Should parents have the right to whack off part of a child's body just because THEY prefer it?

And seeing as how the children who are taught to believe in a god aren't all mentally damaged sociopaths, I think we can assume there is a difference between these two things. You're drawing conclusions I never made. I didn't take 'all the negatives' of religion, not even close. What I did was give an example of somethg allowed and praised in a prominent religion that I consider to be child abuse equal to your example.
Not all kids that were beaten or abused turned into sociopaths either, but that's not a reason to allow it.

The point was that you made it sound like that was the whole point of teaching their kids the religion, to make them feel bad about themselves. And there is no pattern of mentally unbalanced people coming form a religious background, however there is a pattern of mentally unbalanced and damaged people who come from families with alcoholic parents etc. Teaching children religion isn't abuse, that's the stupidest thing I've heard in awhile as much as I dislike religion.

What I'm saying is people who abuse their child should be penalized even if they claim it is protected religious speech. To go to an obvious extreme, we wouldn't allow child sacrifice no matter how holy the parents thought it. Yet a parent can let a sick child die through inaction because he believes in the power of prayer! The child who is taught that this is good thing, who is taught to wait for death in prayer, is being irreparably harmed.

Yeah, that was a rare case of the parents not wanting to treat their kid, I already said I'm not talking about those incidents since they are so incredibly rare. That doesn't apply to the vast vast majority of people who raise their children religiously. Even if they do refuse treatment, it's hard to force them to accept treatment when even the child doesn't want it.

Teaching your child good manners is commonly considered socially acceptable and a good thing and it has no blatantly apparent negative affects on the child, exactly the same as religion. I'm an atheist and I think religious people are stupid and you should never brainwash your child like that, but in this situation my opinion is irrelevant, because they aren't my children, and the children aren't being abused or physically harmed even if I hate it.
