this is by far the best blender kinect vidoe on youtube is there a chance of getting our hands on a blend of this? would be awsome to see what the blender comunity and I could do with this.thanx
How much does a Konnect cost? Having one of those, a very great animated film would be possible with your own in-house mocap of the director acting all the parts. A revolution in filmmaking.
@BenjyTCook That seems pretty reasonable. With a Konnect and your mocap tools, anyone with a good grasp of Blender and some talent at storytelling could put out their own films to rival the Star Wars prequels, Avatar, and everything out of Pixar. Cost: $100. Let's see Hollywood try to make a movie for that kind of money.
@MartianStories True, but recall that there currently is not an official/stable way to do facial mocap off a kinect. As most emotion in an animated movie comes from facial expressions, this might be a problem, requiring keyframe animation.
@BenjyTCook Right, right. But keyframing an eyebrow raise or a smirk isn't so bad. You don't animated characters to be hams. And, with Papagayo, lipsynching isn't the horror that many might figure it would be.
For me, realistic movement is 50% of what convinces me that I'm watching a real human. I still think it's very difficult to keyframe a truly realistic walkcycle, hand gestures, etc.
Besides, a few months ago I remember seeing someone doing a (passable) facial cap with Konnect..
why dont you teach to us make this?
why you make and dont teach?

@wallmasterr I'll put the source code and workflow on my blender wiki page sometime this week. Note that it's currently unix only.

Fantastic!
Can you do more movements and capture them?

Very cool, is it possible to make it interactive (like Kinect itself?)

@MartianStories Cost me about 700 Shekels here in Israel, I think it's like 100$ in the US. Check with a local store or Amazon.
