I soo need to see her again before she leaves (hopefully not until a very long time)! My first Elphie and my favourite though i have only seen the show once...
Sad whoever Did film this didnt film the fact they have changed to tech to her flight. I saw it just on saturday last week and you now actually get to see part of her body. I say 'her body' its probably a projection as those in the know how she its actually up there.. If you havent seen it live and only watched crappy video's .. Do yourself the biggest favour and go and see it NOW in London! It is at its best. (well apart from one or two in the cast!) You'll still be blown away!
@jakewgard1 Yeah that to but it also looked like you could see her body as if in flight? With 'feet' tucked behind her as if on her broomstick? Obvously not 'her's' but maybe a projection of some sort? Think it starts with a ripple (she hold broom up ) and when she holds it in flight position she looks 3D as if you can see past her e.g her feet, her 'on' broom facing you. I saw it back in Menzel days and then when Rachel started. All i can say, whatever they've done, its a big improvement!!
@PuppetPerformance you do know there is no effect and that shes on a hydrolic lift? basically she is standing on a tiny little platform which is covered by a skirt and the black curtains hide the rest of the lift
Wow wow wow I'm seeing her next Thursday and I'm soexcited. Only ever seen Alexia Khadime and so looking forward to Rachel. That growl on the last ahhhhh it immense
i saw rachel wednesday perform and i got goosebumps everytime she sang! her voice is just unreal. She owned every song she sang. Shes just incredible! i hope she never leaves wicked either, this roll is just made for her and everyone loves her! LOVE YOU RACHEL <3
ok, I'm a HUUUGE fan of Rachel Tucker, but this exceeds any expectations!!!
Her live performance is as technically perfect as a CD recording. Unbelievable! This IS the best defying gravity of Rachel I've ever seen/heard, and the best DG on youtube. She is incredible!!!
I love all of the comparisons between her and Kerry. The big thing I notice is that she puts lots of emotion into her performances while Kerry looked bored most of the time.
Can you say broadway transfer? Seriously...she would be recieved so well there with her enormous belt--I've never heard another Elphaba who I feel so comfortable listening to w/the higher belt notes in Wicked
@bogocraze Not after what happened to Kerry ;) I think a break from the role, to give her voice a little rest, before a transfer, would be essential, because if this girl looses any of the beauty, power, and genius of her performance, it would be a disaster.
@pilchard96 Kerry strained her voice at her first performance and had difficulty throughout her 3 runs, and she wasn't even singing to OBC standard most of the time. Rachel has coped far better and that's with all the high optional riffs etc. her voice is far better suited to the role than Kerry's.
@Jameess06 I had Stalls, row C dead centre and the seats couldn't have been better. Sumptuous detail - you can see their eyelashes for god's sake, and it sounded incredible.
@omglolwhatever yeah, i think its amazing how much rachel has changed, she has become much more confident with her voice and playing elphaba, not the she wasn't beacuse i saw her augest last year, and she was a powerhouse and a fantastic actress, but well any performer improves in a different production.
This is a fantstic defying gravity and im gonna be sad when we loose Rachel Tucker and Louise Dearman, they are such a good wicked pair.
@omglolwhatever Althought i love Kerry to pieces and loved her performances. I totally agree. Kerry was amazing but she had such a rock type voice, she wasn't a pop stage singer which is why she seemed very fearce in her first 10months, unfortunatly her voice got tired of it and started to ware out =( Rachel is just so much more suited for the role, her voice is so much more ranged and more for the stage, she has a stunning prescence, her vocals are over 1m % ! And louise is just incredible! =)
@omglolwhatever Kerrys voice was never strained.... its her tone and I personally think she is perfect for the role and so must alot of other people or she wouldnt of taken over idina in london do a 2 year london run, transfer to broadway, come back to london then go into oliver... I think rachels voice has a quite nasal tone and the riffs are good however I think theyre un necicary and if Kerry wasnt singing OBC standard why may I ask would she be given power house status?
@omglolwhatever I find Kerry's voice to be much better grounded than Rachel's. Kerry's belts are clear and strong and of course Rachel's belts are very strong as well, I find them very thin - in some ways though, that is a good thing as it's more witchy. Having seen both in the part now though - I still think I definitely prefer Kerry as Elphaba; for me her acting was more subtle and she seemed to play the character with ease, vocally and physically. Where I find that Rachel plays every moment..
@ScottGodfreyMusic1 I completely agree with you on Kerry's voice. Honestly, and this is my personal opinion, I think the rarity of her belt brought something fresh to the character (I was at her last performance ever, she was amazing). I am not a big fan of Rachel because for some reasons, and in spite of her vocal strength (I love how she growls the last note of 'Defying Gravity'), I have this impression she overacts.
I never saw her live though, I should come to see her someday.
@omglolwhatever While I adore the passion in Rachel's performances, I do not believe that a tendency to riff equals a superior voice. Don't get me wrong, I love Rachel's riffs but I have also never experienced a Wicked performance as strong as that of Kerry when I saw her on Broadway. IMO, that's because Kerry's voice is more grounded indeed and has more depth. Absolutely love them both, though and adore their vastly different interpretations of Elphaba!
@omglolwhatever Rachel's voice is the chocolate cake of West End and probably Broadway too. Kerry sounds great, strained voice my foot, it's just her nasal voice I cannot stand for the life of me.
I. Can't. Wait. For summer. I'm seeing this show this show. Finally. I've been saving for months and someone told me they got tickets for my birthday. I actually cried. This is amazing. Rachel is a FANTASTIC Elphie!
@Elphiesgreenfriend London has the worst direction for that part, they all wait around for cues and don't bother improving like they do in other productions.
@omglolwhatever I KNOW RIGHT, i feel the same way, i just think every new elphaba that comes in, they become to comfortable, and do all these different things that ruin the show
@Elphiesgreenfriend Did it ever occur to you that the reason the guards fall down is because of the action she makes with her arms? If anything, the guards waiting for her arm movements made this scene more realistic than had they simply fallen back as she rose. The only possible complaint you could have with the way this is staged is the gap they sometimes leave between the dialogue and the begnning of the ascent, where they wait for the downbeat of the orchestra.
@metuant123 yes i realize that but if you actually read my comment it not all about that, they get to use to the role and make so many changes that the show is too custom, even Rachel's wig is like over half way shorter than it should be
i love how rachel tcuker came 4th in i'd do anything even though she should have won and now shes 10x more successful than any fo teh rets of them!
