The primary sticking points all lie between a pair of ears. A large number of viable tools to improve daily life and increase energy efficiency and overall well being are simply not being deployed because those people who have the resources can not be convinced to shift them to a new use; even a profitable use.
How does the Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE fit into the current health care regulation?
I can't help but wonder if the structure of the industry and regulations would prevent something like this from ever gaining traction. A large part of the reason people say "see a doctor" at all is because it's a way to transfer accountability, whether or not any good is actually done. That's the reason so many things require an MD seemingly arbitrarily.
I don't know if they are aware of Fresco or not, but the fundamental error of Fresco's vision is the idea that there can feasibly be some central AI to do everyone's thinking for them.
The Singularity deals more with the notion that there is some innate symbiosis with human beings and their machines, a symbiosis that will continue and expand in intimacy and potency.
I think an open source world is the world 'Abundance' describes, rather than TVP's 'by design' utopia.
Great video. To Peter Diamandis and Ray Kurzweil: You gentlemen really need to start researching Jacque Fresco's work called: "The Venus Project." He is a 95 year old who has been designing a global society for approximately 70 years that is in accordance with everything that your all's work is illustrating where our world is heading from a technological standpoint. I met Ray last February and told him about Jacque, but have still not seen Ray comment about Jacque's work. Cheers!
