Until men have the right to face their accuser equally and not automatically be labeled guilty by default then we shouldn't convict. They have NOTHING to apologize for.
To be fair though, there are quite a few women who do infact use rape allegations as retribution against a man for one reason or another. I'm not saying that all rape accusations are so, but it does happen and it further damages the chances that a real rape victim will come forward if they suspect that their claim might have the slightest chance of being scrutinized for authenticity.
