im surprised the U.K is such a nice a place to live as it is today considering the constant schemes to build these discusting british concrete flats everywhere.
id love to see every single one of these 1960-70 blocks demolished into the ground and replaced by modern high standard private secure apartment blocks like they have in manchester now which have no crime atall.
well do you think the people who live in these flats could afford "high standard private secure apartment blocks" and with Britain's population only getting bigger the only place to go is up.
I Love My Tower Block And Me And My Other Half Both Work For A Living So Not Everyones A Benefit Scrounging Git! So Many Negative Comments On Tower Block Residents But When The Council Put Any Old Crap In There What Do Ya Expect? :)
Me And My Partner Live In Tower Blocks Not Everyone Who Lives There Is Benefit Scrounging Me And My Partner Work For A Living And Its The Councils Fault For Puttin Any Shower Of Shite In There! I agree with a few of the comments on here. I live on the 18th floor in a council high rise, and yes, its not the buildings that are the problem, its the small percentage of people that the council stupidly let flats to. 99% of the flats are very nice places to live, yeah, they ain't suited for families, but for young working couples/singles, they are the ideal place...
@AsboDolche LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! I was saying exactly this! LOLOLOLOL!!! Thats for both points you made aswell I agree entirely but the second is just too funny LOLOLOL!
i live on a 14th floor , the views are amazing and its a very large spacious 2 bed flat, i perfer it to the house i previously lived in that would be cold & damp this time of year plus the noises so i wouldnt swap it for nothing yet , i more or less know quite alot of neighbors as there is laundry on the ground floor that i use which is good for gossip,t its a good block everyone is nice and polite so dont really have much problems with mine
i remmeber in the 80s blocks use to be bad, they was housing alot of wild familys and people who had been living rough for a number of years there so had made them rough but was grim times for everyone though really ,heroin was a big problem too
tower blocks are great,,,i live in one 13 floor, great balcony with views over london,,,its not tower blocks that are bad its when you get horrible people living in them''but you get horrible people everywhere,,if you are thinking of moving in to one dont be put off,,,
How times have changed again I am from salford and lived at Thorn Court for a number of years it seems that apartments as they are called now are the in-thing again
Actually I grew up on Kersal Flats in the 1970s. 12 tower blocks containing 750+ flats on kersal way. It was great!
But then almost all families had fathers and an extended family. Also central government funded local authorities well. In the 1980s Thatcherite policies deprived local authorities of money and these places became dumping grounds. If Local Authorities had not been deprived then these places would have remained ok and would still be gere today.
I think that whole back-lash against towerblocks is in the past now. All they need is the right mix of people and good security. You've got people queuing up to live in them now!
I take it you have never lived in a towerblock, regardless if all the neighbours are saints they are still depressing cramped, hard to maintain, and its not right for families to be liviing 13 storeys up in the air in such conditions.
I used to live in Birley Court, a tower block near Salford precinct, that's now been demolished. I loved it. Oh for the days when my large two bedroom flat, with a brilliant view of Manchester, only cost me 30 quid a week.
They're great for young single people, ignore the propaganda. But putting young families in them, and the elderly, was a huge mistake.
i agree, theres a certain underserved stigma about tower blocks, here in Glasgow we have over 200 of them but nearly half of them are set for the chop within the next 15 years, no one wants to live in them mostly just immigrants and the elderly.
Things have changed now,Kersel Flats are long gone and Plum Tree Ct was pullde down 2 years ago,5 others went around 10 years ago. However Nearby Thorn Court has had 4 Million pounds spent on it and now has a wating list, high rise apartments are opening on salford docks every month,Oh and I live in a Tower Block,It is not all that bad ,but the 80's were terrible.

Bring back tower blocks, built em high and stack em up to the sky, more and more people, more and more tower blokes.
They should be built 100 stories high

I dont think the modernist visionaries of the 1950s and 1960s realised what would happen in the years to come.

I moved up there in the early 1970s. I found it a great place to live. Very little crime that I knew about. Before the drug thing started I suppose.

Nope i dont think they can afford high standard private secure apartment blocks
but i dont like the discusting 1960-70 ones that has plagued the U/K for 40-50 years, but i would like to see them demolished.
and maybe the non respecting, drug taking residents should get a job and maybe then they could afford "high standard private secure apartment blocks"

It's all about the management and who you put in them.
If you're block is being managed by Salix Homes then you won't stand a chance.
