  • its already told below if you read Kaytee exact hand rearing formula

  • :D what food is this please tell me ?

  • Once they started flying, did u put them on the cage with their parents or alone? Mine are one month and they already fly... they seem so small to put them on a cage...

  • @13Lisle I leave them with the parents for as long as I can but if parents are nesting again I take them out before the parents eggs hatch, to avoid any problems.

  • Kaytee Exact hand rearing fomula which I mention below .. they need good quality food otherwise they will not do well.

  • what food you give to them.. is this hand made?

  • when they are fully weaned, and eating on their own you have to put soft

foods and seeds in with them to encourage them to eat it takes a few weeks.

  • Those are 28 days old.Notice the breast feathers not fully covered yet...:pI counted mine as the same thing.

  • Breast feathers are covered at fledgling age which is around 23 days old if they are not covered at 28 days then you may have a fungul/ bacterial infection with your chicks.

  • the baby in the pic is wet on the front where I spilt food and cleaned it off he has a full breast of feathers like the other one

  • What kind of food was that because i have four baby zebra finches

  • Hi It was Kaytee Exact Handfeeding formula which I found to be the best , the other food is RoudyBush handfeed also ok.

  • Wow! the color of their beaks is amazing!

  • hi, i've got 3x7 day old gouldians that have been chucked out the nest by the parents. How much should I feed them and how often? Thanks.

  • You need to feed at least 4 times a day , feed late before going to bed and first thing of a morning, use a good quality food, feed them enough to be able to see the crop filled each side of the neck, make it like yoghurt consistency keep them quite warm 34c at least until they have feathers.

  • our finch died this morning..we need a new one the mate is very sad now...

  • I feed Kaytee Exact handfeeding formula or sometimes Rowdy bush handfeeding formula.

  • what are you feeding it? i want a baby finch

  • there cool babies, and why do they have all those black spots in thier mouth

  • The spots in the mouth are irridescent and shine in the dark so the parent can see where to put food in the dark nests.

  • Hi My name is Alejandro and I wanted to know how did you keep them to live so long when my gouldians abandon their babies I will go and pick them up at the bottom of the cage and try to feed them but I can only manage to keep them alive for 3 days=(

  • perhaps the mother or one of the parents died if they were wild birds.. so the poor babies perished.

  • how do you know when a bird has abandond its nest? cuz we had a goldfinch nest with 6 - 12 eggs but the mum abandoned them shortly after hatching and when i climbed up 2 get them they had died 7:¬[

  • Hi, what did you feed them with the syringe? My adults just gave birth and im looking for a good diet to feed in case the adults don't take care of them

  • They are being fed Kaytee Exact handfeeding formula, its very good and they grow fast with it.

  • Ahahahah, so cute! They get so excited food is coming, it´s adorable!

  • No, the parents are owned by me and had some babies in a nest in a cage and they abandoned the nest when I moved the cage, birds do not like to be disturbed when they are nesting.

  • oh ok, i want to buy a gouldian but my parents think they r too expensive. thanks for the help!

just one question, so u mean the birds just left the eggs like in the wild, rite...

  • very cute!

  • is it safe to take it out of the cage?

  • Hi

I dont understand what you are talking about.. take what out of the cage? you can only take a tame gouldian out of the cage not one you purchased.

  • i mean the babys, did u buy them seperate or like did ur birds breed? cause if ur birds bred, is it safe to take the baby out of where ever it is (cage)

  • I bred the babies and they were abandoned by the parents when I had to move house so then I had to hand raise them, so when I hand raised them they become very tame and you can take them out of the cage indoors and they will fly back to you.

  • ohhh i c. ok thanks. by the way where did u buy or gouldian finches or the egg?

    how much do they cost?

  • You can buy them from Pet stores or breeders check your local finch clubs, you buy adult birds and then breed them to get the babies.. it depends on where you are how much they are. Could be $50 up to $100 or more.

  • hi could you call me at 617-285-7156 i have some questions on handfeeding goulds thanks joe ferraro.

  • part II cont... Are they ignoring him? I probably need to hand feed but I have no idea how. What EXACTLY do I need to buy to feed/house him? I need to know everything because I would probably need to take him out of the nest permantly right? Or would they let me just take him out for feedings??? They allow me to check the nest very often and I have only touched the 1 baby once and they still are okay with it. PLEASE your help would be much appreciated. Thank you!!!

  • Hi

You can hand feed the baby in the nest and just leave it there would be best as the siblings will keep it warm, also once the baby is stronger then the parents may start feeding again... you need to get some Kaytee exact hand feeding formula and make it like runny porridge and feed a little at a time to the chick, you can use a toothpick end to scoop it and place in chicks mouth, feed till the crop starts to look a bit full, this needs to be done every 3 hours at least.

  • GOOD NEWS: After I came back from the store I saw they had fed him and that he was satiated. :) This morning however he was empty so mixed up a small batch of Kaytee Exact and fed him and now he is full. I think I am going to have to supplement with the Kaytee because they feed him only when they want to. But yes, it's going to be a lot easier for me because I just leave him in the nest and give him the tiny (0.3 of 1cc)sering of food and I'm done. How often do you think he would need to feed?

  • You need to feed him about every 3 hours or when his crop is near empty to get him stronger then they may feed him, the other chicks may be stronger and begging more and he cant compete yet.

  • Sounds good. I will do that. Thanks!

  • I have a baby Gouldian that is 3 days old. A white zebra was suppose to foster it. I see all the others sleeping because they are full and they have yellow in their necks but I always see him empty and hungry.

  • my mom found a baby finch at work and took it home. what should i feed it? plz respond don't lie

  • I dont lie ... you should feed it something like Kaytee exact handfeeding formula ... but I am not sure a wild bird would eat for you.

  • thnks but the baby finch can fly sort of so that how it probably got away from its parents its not a baby baby without feathers and my mom only wants to catch worms and stuff not got to petco etc. plz respond!

  • If you have not fed the chick by now it will die you have to feed egg and biscuit or kaytee, it wont be ready for worms etc. and you need to research what type of finch it is to know what it will eat in the wild.. otherwise take it to your local vet or wildlife carer and they will know what to do.

  • it died because my mom didn't want to go to petco to see what it should eat

  • Sorry to hear that , its a shame your mum didnt bother to take it and give it to the vet they would care for it or a wild life rescue.

  • That's what I feed all of my baby birds. I actually have 6 house finch baby's to feed right now, and they have taken great to the Kaytee exact.
