the intro guitar chords in this song are sheer genius,i learned them and every time i play it i think how in the hell did he come up with this......only larry carlton !
@gamesDamned well, I learned a lot from fellow members of this discussion. Now I just uploaded all my digital music to Apples Cloud Service, which will restore all the .mp3 to their version of lossless audio called .Aiff. From what I understand, my .mp3's get linked to their master aiff and what doesn't match gets converted. Storage and backup is free. via ICloud. I had to purchase an Airplay music player and chose philllips DS8800W/37. It won't find my network so here comes phone = tech suppt.
@kinkslola "Remastered" is your problem. That only means the CD has been brickwalled and over-compressed. A more fair comparison would be with the original CD. That said, the original (analog) LP sounds terrific, especially with a good Technics turntable and a quality sound system.
"Played on Technics SL-1700 w/ Grado Red cartridge, Philips 785 receiver, KLH Model 17 speakers" ...and compressed into a mp3-type format. The idea is great and it is certainly a much better quality than most audio-tracks on Youtube, but there really isn't anything like being there in person, next to the record player :)
I love steely dan, and my favourites in music range from original rock and roll and blues from the 50's to electronic music from the current year. I love steely dan, because they're so versatile
This turntable caught my eye though, because I was a dj, and built a bit of a name for myself in my city
But this was literally my first turntable. As I recall, mine was direct drive, and was an alternate version to the mk2's which had a slider for the pitch. I learned to beatmatch with those.
@skypilot0077 you're right. This song is extremely revealing for the level of pace&rhythm in an audio system. Rarely does a cd player get this one right. It's supposed to funk big time! Josie is fluid and analog, you've got to love her with here eyes on fire! ;-)
I think I responded on some level to the pops and hisses (subconsciously)...lol. It also brought back when my band used to play it. We had a blast with it!
I'm so sick of ignoramuses claiming that vinyl has some kind of fuller sound than digital. It simply isn't true. Anything vinyl can do, digital can do and then some. End of debate.
Sounds incredible! Is it hard to mount cartridges to that original headshell if it only has a single screw rather than two screws? What cartridge do you use?
@markd514 : While I'm not going to dispute that vinyl has a richer sound, no one listening to this can probably tell very well from this video because this video's audio format is digital too. (In other words digitally sampled instead of analog.) Unless, that is, you think the kids are going to swoon over hearing some extra static.
one of the BEST albums of the 70's and beyond! Love Steely Dan, although I have most of their albums on CD, I wish I still had my turn-table and Steely Dan vinyl!

Do you prefer the sound of Vinyl? I don't know if it is just me, but this version sounds much deeper in audio quality than my remastered CD.

@rg1232 Not weird at all. A cd is DIGITAL!
Our physical reality world is ANALOG!
ANALOG will ALWAYS trump DIGITAL recordings.
