@ary7864 if you mean the moving curved blue bar on the on-screen graphic then that is the rev counter, or at least the part of the graphic depicting revs.
@AsiChicky not in quali ;) in the first few races of the 2005 season there were 2 parts of qualifying (1 session saturday and 1 session sunday). The saturday (when Kimi drove his 1:13.6) they drove with the minimum of fuel and then in the sunday session they had to choose their fuel loads. The 2 times of the 2 sessions were added and these new times would decide the grid.
@TheCocoLokko it's a 1:14.902, this is with full tank I think. I'm surprised though how Kimi drove a 1:13.6 in the MP4-20 and the RB6 couldn't go faster. Maybe it's because the old cars have bigger rear wings which means you have more downforce on the rear, more downforce on the rear is more grip and more grip is better acceleration and you need a lot of acceleration in Monaco :p But as everybody knows (or should know), the MP4-20 was a beast, a beautiful beast! with a lot of deseases though...
@TheCocoLokko Yeah it's a bit of a strange one. When I watch Kimi's lap, then watch Mark's, to me it seems like Mark's going so much faster. That TO ME would suggest horsepower makes the lap quicker, coz you can hear Mark flooring it coming out of so many corners and it's almost like the car jumps out of the corner, because the back end kicks out a few times. Kimi's lap seems pretty tame by comparison :/
@TheCocoLokko in 2005, they had a decent amount of aerodynamic frip, but the v10 engines gave the cars massive acceleation. Last year they had less power, but more aerodynamic grip, making the times of 2005 and 2010 very close. This year, i reckon times because of less aerodynamic grip and same power :)
@TheCocoLokko It's impossible to compare, the track condition could be totally different plus Raikkonen did his time with grooved Michelin tyres that had to last the whole race while Button had slick Bridgestones. They would also have had different fuel loads on board, Raikkonen would've had more power for sure but as for who had more downforce it's impossible to say, the 09 rules took away a lot but it's gained back so quickly.
@TheCocoLokko yes true ,aslo add that now there is higher downforce ,so that may increase lap times ,however we must not forget Tyre factor, pirelli tires which i hear is faster ,so yeh kinda mystery
@TheCocoLokko yeh me too ,to see how much science and technology they put in those cars is just amazing ,am a recent fan of F1 and yeh made me seriously thinking about karting :D
@coldshot12 The downforce on the cars got decreased in 2009. But the mechanical grip has increased a whole lot with the slick tires they introduced with the 2009 rules. Grip level in slow corners, where downforce has no saying, the new cars produce much more grip. In fast corners though it's about the same because the old cars had more downforce and the new cars make up for the loss of downforce with the mechanical grip they have. However the loss in engine power make the new cars slower overall
@TheCocoLokko And this year Vettel does it in a 1:13.5 ... I must say on these tight twisty tracks the modern cars win, but a V10 powered car will win around Monza any day.
@TheCocoLokko He did it in 1:14.902 but you can't really compare the qual times because they had to qual with the fuel they wanted to start the race with. One could go on very low fuel and get pole easily but that would result in an extra pit stop.
@TheCocoLokko buttons lap time was 1.14.902, the 2009 cars were probably about 150bhp down on the 2005 mclaren and probably produced significantly less downforce than the 2005 cars due the aero rules brought in in 2009 and the 2005 diffusers were far more complex than the brawn double diffuser, the 2009 cars would have had more mechanical grip though because of slick tyres
@TheCocoLokko If Kimi's car had the amount of downforce and the same slick tyres that Webber's car had, the gap would've been much more than 2 tenths. In 2005 they had around 25% of the downforce of the 2004 cars and the tyres were super-hard (one set had to last a race unless they were punctured or badly flat spotted).
Because he is not at his best at qualifying (9-1 Rosberg-Schumacher this year, but Rosberg one of the fastest driver in the current grid in my opinon....)
Yeah, he is usually faster on race than Nico, but anyway, he getting old......
But I still remember when he was like 0,8-1sec ahead of everybody(and not always his teammate was on 2nd place).-> Yea, that Schumacher was way more skilled than Jenson........

@toureyaya24 no that wasnt in 2005 ;) just 2004 and maybe 2003
and 2005 they had super hard rilled tires, cause they had to drive q2 and the whole race with them if you remember ;)
with slicks, 2004 and 005 would have been the fastet saisons ever

whats his lap time
i always try to compare the lap times
this year it was 1:13.8 by mark webber
but kimi did it in 2005 in a 1:13.6
the question is?
is it just the enginepower or is there relation between power and aerodynamics or the double diffusor
you see f1 has a lot unanswerd questions. its so tricky

i know the tyres are a factor you cant calculate!!
the only thing we know is they want least forever like bridgestone
the other thing is they dont use the double diffusor
so how do they generate there downforce???
