  • DAMMNIT mrkocb you beat me to it!!!

  • Notice all the new ads trying to sell you their product by calling

    "smart" use white spaces too.

  • that guy sounds like don pardo

  • I think Britannica is still the best even at the age of the Internet. Like this, Wikipedia's article on "Russia" is focused on its celebrities, and the article on Britannica is focused on its geography and history. I think Britannica is the REAL encyclopedia. And , Wikipedia's long articles are mostly on sex. I bought a set of 2010 Britannica two months ago to replace Wikipedia as my reliable source. Above all, Britannica IS THE BEST EVER compared to Wikipedia which is focused on uncensored porn

  • @international153 Guess what? With the fall of the Egyptian president, your shit is already outdated. That's the problem with static books, text books, etc. A day after printing they're old news.

  • @NuthingToSee But i bought it on December 2010 two months before the fall of Mubarak. Britannica is not sh*t that's an encyclopedia. And now it's 5 a.m on Moscow i will read that after getting offline.

  • @international153 I immediately turned on the Britannica Volume 8 Micropedia on that volume there's Mubarak and at volume 7 there's Medvedev, the Mubarak article (first sentence) reads: "Mubarak, Hosni in full Mohammad Hosni Said Mubarak, Hosni also spelled Husni (born May 4, 1928 , Al Minufiyah governorate, Egypt) president of Egypt from October 1981" and the Medvedev article "Medvedev, Dmitry, in full Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev (b. Sept. 14, 1965 Leningrad[Now St.Petersburg, Russia]...

  • @NuthingToSee Sorry I replied my own comment LOL it was for you the continuation:

'... Russian lawyer and politician who became president of Russia in 2008" so most of it are still new e.g. the article on Russia

  • I remember this ad being played ALL THE TIME when I was around 4 years old, it randomly popped into my head for some reason today and lo and behold here I find it!

  • They're very nice sets, I bought a set for $50 at a garage sale. Pretty worthless with the internet but there's a few things that are interesting about them. A full set back in the day cost ~$2000.

  • I wonder if this guy killed himself for not being able to get a career after this commercial.

  • Tight, tucked in, primary color shirt--check. Tight black jeans with white hightops (note the sexy black socks)--check. Longass hair and square Jaws 3 glasses--check. Computer in the background equipped for King's Quest 3 that CLEARLY has never been hooked up to any "internet"--check.

Yep...it was the early 90s xD what a time to be alive! =)

  • Thanks for the Advice kid, now go back to your Traditional Russian Dance troupe.

  • That room IS very clean. He must be in the matrix. Just look at that space age computers we had back then.

David Spade was on SNL once and showed a picture of this guy and said "This guy needs a serious beating." THe crowd erupted in approval.

  • what a irritating prick... yeah yeah yeah i remember you, i still hate you

  • I always wondered where my mandibula was

LOL, i forgot about this commercial

  • as much as i love the convenience of the internet, I miss the good ol' days when I had to open up a few encyclopedias for my middle school research papers. nothing beats opening a nice, well-pressed volume of Britannica, setting it on my desk, and browsing through the microscopic text.

  • Nowadays this guy looks like Alton Brown's illegitimate son.

  • Man I remember seeing this guy during almost every second commercial break on Saturday Mornings. Wonder what it says that yes we now have things like Wikipedia for free, but with those books you can rest assured the information is...95% accurate and no one might come in and alter it on a whim.

  • i used to hate this guy hahaha

  • @crassyfrake Oh I hated this guy to! My friends and I use to make fun of him when his commercial was on and say "Look at this, I always wondered where my dick was"

  • So, he walks AWAY from a computer towards a bunch of books? Encyclopedia Britannica you are so clever!

  • is he talking to God, in purgatory

  • Comment removed

  • I still have the full set at home, including the shelf.

Too bad the internet made it obselete

  • His name is Donavan Freberg. He is a hidden gem full of talent thats buried in the depth of Los Angeles. He could make someone a lot of money if the right person knew how to use him. He's a crazy funny mfcker!!! And a great photographer.

  • @eliassailor

Yeah if there was a commercial that featured him being beaten senseless I'd probably enjoy it so much I'd buy the product ... regardless what the product is.

  • Is there a number available for the 2010 edition?

I'm simply curious to know. I'm also curious about the price as well.

  • Encyclopedias are often the only thing I will read. Its the most informal and many of them have wonderful illustrations as well.

  • What the hell is encyclopedia britannica? Who is this idiot on here pushing these over priced, overrated books? Who would buy actual encyclopedias when there is wikipedia for free? Does this kid not have a computer? Had he used Wikipedia instead, he would have gotten a A on that space report.

  • That's Donovan Freberg, son of the great satirist Stan Freberg (who does the voiceover).

  • wow, i've never had an encyclopedia britannica before.

  • I remember this commercial being on all the time when I was about ten years old and the funny thing is the guy in this commercial looks a lot like Moe Berg. The lead singer of the Canadian rock band, The Pursuit Of Happiness. They are one of my all time favourites!!

    ~Mr. Make Believe

  • I just called the number. There was uncomfortable sobbing, then a gun shot on the other end of the line.

  • Principal Skinner voiceover?

  • How a green party activist inside Wikipedia abused his admin rights to manipulate thousands of articles in order to remove critical viewpoints about man-made global warming:

    bit (dot) ly / 5CMOGi

  • A report on space? That's kinda vague...

  • That's why he put too much information in and got a B+.

  • what year did the internet really take off? i bet the people at encyclopedia britannica hate the internet.

  • Not really, they just moved their service to the internet and charge a yearly fee for it. They still sell the print encyclopedias, but the yearly service is cheaper.

  • 1994 is when the internet really became a common household tool.

  • now we just wiki that shit

  • I enjoy any kind of encyclopedia.

  • Wow, this is OLD! I remember this when I was younger.

  • bad ass

  • this guy has his own youtube channel where he randomly post bizarre videos...its quite troubling to watch a human mentally implode like that..and the brutal comments over on his channel are not helping this poor schmo ...the world is a fuct up place.

  • i still utter the first line of this commercial randomly. it's an awkward tick.

  • Parker Lewis CAN lose!! Or be a LOSER.

  • Uh, this is not the same dude who played Parker Lewis

  • Duh!! I was around when Parker Lewis was broadcast, and when this commercial ran ages ago. I KNOW he's not Corin Nemec, it was supposed to be funny. Oh well...

  • Snotty punk.

  • Big gay farts n' such. That was a long time ago...

  • I used to hate this obnoxious geek. I always wanted to drown him in a bucket of shit.

  • Damn Dude, you must have been a Funk and Wagnall's fan!

  • This commercial and kid used to annoy the hell out of me, when it aired nearly 'round the clock, during the 80s.

I've heard that one of his parents is famous. I forget who it is, though. Anybody know?

  • He's Donavan Freberg, Stan Freberg's son. He did a lot of TV and radio in the 50s and early 60s. The wikipedia page is pretty enlightening.

  • Did anyone mention that the voice talking to Donavan Freberg is in fact his father, Stan Freberg?

  • Comment removed

  • LOL! "OVER KILL"!!!!

  • Me and my friends called this number and it ended up being this Thai Food restaurant and the poor guy ont he other end didn't know English very well...so my friend acted like a grandmother wanting to buy an Encyclopedia Britannica for her grandson, and he was all confused...and she started throwing a fit. It was the funniest thing. You had to be there.

  • You rock, dude!!!

  • Whatevs, let's fry some fish, ya fuckin' dildo!!!

  • Win.

  • I remember this queer nerd.

  • fag

  • I once tried to do my own rendition of this commercial for a book report presentation when I was in fourth grade, but changed my mind at the last minute.

  • this is the result when you crossbreed john carmack and kim richards.

  • plagiarizing from encyclopedias instead of actually writing reports is awesome

  • Encyclopedia Britannica, the 90's version of wikipedia, but still 100x more reliable than wikipedia.

  • wikipeida is more reliable than print encyclopedias, which says a lot about how terrible encyclopedias are

  • Dude, Britannica is totally not more reliable than Wikipedia. They even did a study about it in the scientific journal Nature. I read about it on Wikipedia.

  • He's on Youtube now. His user profile is "babyboy1971".

    He's a weirdo.

  • man was he quite annoying on that

advert and what a total plonker

boring us all to death on how cool

the brittanica is but the only flaw

was that the number to get them was

for the us market and it means diddly

to us britts though but what a funny advert

    20/10

    frankie smales

(frankie smales movie and tv review uk)

  • I actually bought the Encyclopedia Brittanica because of Donavan....and yes, I was curious, and turned to the "cool" pages to find where my mandibula was. These were the kind of adverts that stuck in people's minds...I had a crush on Donavan Freberg in 1991 when I was 8 years old, and at 25, I still have a crush on him. This advert introduced me to puberty so well :) Wikipedia has nothing on the Brittanica, may be more work, but it really is worth it. You feel as if you accomplished sometthing

  • have you seem him now?

  • Maybe he'll open that book & show you where his cock is!

  • his room is rely clean

  • Comment removed

  • I would sooo f**k this guy, he's so brainy and sexy, I would make him forget allll about his encyclopedia brittanica! I would make him totally "score his test", how about searching this "human body"?!?! Anyone know how I could contact this guy, I've been trying to find him since I was 11, I'm not 25 and still wanting some of him!

  • You're so fucking weird.

  • those iv's are it!

  • looking back on this..I wanna kick his ass. XD

  • Damn this would be expensive.

I luv the internet where it's all free now. ^_^

  • i remember this lame brain.

  • anyone NOTICE THE OG JORDAN 4'S HE HAD ON?

  • fuck yeah good eye!

  • I guess he has not yet read the sections on "Good fashion sense" or "Sensible Haircuts for the 20th century".

  • FA!

  • I hated this commercial. Great to see it again.

  • i like those OG IV 's haha

tahs wut im noticing through out the commercial

  • anyone notice the air jordan iv's probally not huh

  • This guy always used to annoy me.

  • The Onion NAILS IT:

    theonion . com / content/node/33526

  • looks like a young courtney gains

  • "Encyclopedia Britannica guy- UGH! This guy needs a serious beating!!" -David Spade

  • i always thought some cool kid needed to check this guy..

  • Does he look like "Quinn Mallory" to anyone else?

  • He made that perfectly clear. LOL. I called the 800 number and some lady answered.

  • mandibula!!!!???? funny! what a jackass

  • I wonder if the number still work. someone call it and let me know. peace

  • i remember that guy, he has a report due on space

    ~Jerod T.
