I've met him too, and I try and get up the canyon a couple times a year. He hurt his knee going down the trail to rescue a gold prospector who had a heart attack a few months ago. Sadly, the prospector died, but Bernie was on the scene.

I've spent some time with Bernie dredging up at the river and he is a good person to be around. If I ever have a question about the area up in the canyon Bernie will always have some info. about what I might want to know about.

He's a good friend, and his little dog is always friendly. It's people like Bernie that make prospecting so much fun.
