  • As many said in this clip, I don't really care that much for free jazz, but this is actually listenable.

  • whites look and sound silly playing free jazz as blacks do playing polka!

  • @whykatera81

That's funny because many white people actually contributed to the original free jazz movement. i.e. Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz. Please don't get race involved with music because music doesn't care about race.

  • I agree this not Music.

  • sick.. i dont like free jazz.... pfee....

  • I'll have what Liebman is having.

  • i don't like the way they play the tenor... i'd rather have some rollins, gordon, redman, carter. A bit more structure in the music, and I think their sound is stronger, I don't get this free jazz sound at all. It's ugly, like scraching your nails on a blackboard.

  • I disagree. An abrasive, metallic, hard saxophone sound is a reasonable alternative to the warm, smooth sound of say, Wardell Gray. Both approaches are valid and you would be wise to try to study both so that either sound is available to you.

  • Since that comment i've been getting into this more and more, and you are absolutely right. Though Lovano's sound gets to me more, still, then liebman's

  • Billy Hart: drums AND CYMBALS!!!

  • Respect!

  • September 23 is John Coltrane's birthday. They probably played tenor in honor of Trane. Just a guess.....

  • am i allowed not to like this???

  • one man's Kenny G is another's Albert Ayler

  • @marcusb71

This is actually one of the rare videos that I listened to all the way through because it was interesting and not just so predictable like so much music.

  • JazzVideoGuy comes through again....

Beautiful. There is so much peace in the center of that sound. One of my favorite Lieb compositions.

  • Great video, Long live the tenor!

  • Excellent sound !!!

There is a difference between "unison" and "harmony."

  • Hey great man...thanks for posting this..

  • Very well done with talented musicians, but Liebman's solo work is a bit too 'free' for my taste. Also, 3 tenors playing in unison is at least one tenor too many (again, my opinion).

  • yeah. i think, tenor sax is a very strong instrument or it CAN BE a very strong instrument. these three guys PLAY it very very strong. so i share your opinion that 3 of THOSE tenors are too much! but i still love it very much!!
