this is the type of player you should ridicule. he is a diver, selfish, and arrogant. he has brilliant technique and physical ability, so he can be very effective. this doesn't make up for the bad things. this is a player who thinks he is better than everyone else. he plays for himself and his own reward. not to forget he's one of the worst divers in the game.

well, i'll admit to gerrard having taken a few dives, but to compare that to ronaldo is kind of silly. gerrard also plays for his team by passing the ball well and tracking back on defense. i would say gerrard is by no means more arrogant than the average pro footballer. i know you are a united fan, so you want to see ronaldo as a good boy. didn't it kind of show a difference how ronaldo wanted to jump ship to real so quick? remember gerrard stayed after chelsea and real were pursuing him.

I've seen Gerrard time and time again take his 'hollywood' shots and getting nowhere with them instead of playing one of his team-mates in who are in a better position, he did this only last nite against Villa. Plus he dived last night too in their penalty area. Of course he's arrogant, the way he wheels away after scoring, he runs off himself instead of celebrating with team-mates. He wanted to join Chelsea 2 seasons in a row, more money (plus death threats) made him stay at Liverpool.

Far more effective? How many times has Ronaldo's stepovers turned the defender inside out which in turn created something for the team. Ronaldo scored more goals in 6 years for United than Gerrard has done in 10 years at Liverpool.

he definitely improved over the recent years with his tricks, but at the beginning he used to stand by the byline, do a trick, and even if it worked he wouldn't go anywhere. He's definitely matured with his tricks. But he does hang onto the ball a bit too long still imo

You are so blinkered, you can't even see the faults with Gerrard. I could see plenty of faults with Ronaldo when he played for us. He was petulant and a diver, plus he moaned and whinged a lot. I've always pointed out Ronaldo's faults, even when he played with us. See I'm not a fan who has rose tinted glasses on. If my player is petulant, arrogant or if he dives, then I just say it like it is. So many times I criticised Ronaldo for his antics, I'm not blinkered unlike some!

Ummm, yeah he is the same. I remember in a CL match a few seasons ago, a scuffle happened and Gerrard walked up to some player from the other team and just hit him in the face. He's also done some nasty tackles in his career, he ain't no saint. Believe me.

Yes, there have been many great players who haven't won the Ballon d'Or or World Player of the Year, but the players who HAVE these awards are a level above the great players. The players who have won these awards are not just great players, they are FANTASTIC players. Ronaldo inspired United to 3 titles in a row, has Gerrard ever done that with Liverpool? No and he never will. Look at him this season, he's a shadow of his former self.

Well Maradona actually was a World Player of the Year (1986 I believe). The World Player award that Ronaldo won only started in 1991, but Maradona did actually win a World Player award as did Pele, actually he was voted Player of the Century. Clearly they are two players who are above Ronaldo.

i think ronaldo is a great player but his diving and attitude to refs etc is really bad. a number of times in recent seasons he should have gotten penalties (including in this match) however his reputation means the refs never give them
