@15scottie - Maybe so, but this remake of Dokken was out in 1990. 9 Years before Britney, and Britney's music was no where this good, when she first came out. It took Britney Spears 10 years after her own debut, to come up with music that was ahead of her music by 20 years. This style of music was freestyle/electropop/High Energy. Not bad for 1990 teen pop.
I love that this group was individually so charismatic that you can watch any one of them and still feel totally immersed in the song, even if they're not singing lead. A lot of singers today you find that your eyes wander and the camera has to focus in on th singer because otherwise their back-up dancers/singers would have your attention more than the actual artist. This group does NOT have this problem.
WHOA what the??? I thought I had already found the most obscure hits of the 90s, but this one is especially interesting because of how different it was from the music at the time. They basically missed the late 80s - very early 90s teen pop boom, and tried to become popular long before the late 90s teen pop explosion, just odd to find this type of music in 1992. Looks like they may have laid the groundwork for groups like S Club, etc.
@NewWaveArch90 I know. I still love The Party. It does seem like, unfortuantely, timing sometimes is everything and they were just a few years ahead of their time.
I'm sorry but when I saw this version on tv back in the mid 90's I wanted to scream blue murder. this is in fact the most embarrassing version of the classic dokken tune. it also an insult to hair metal fans around the world. what a disgrace,
This song was written and sung by Dokken. Lil kiddies remember Puff D also stole alot of songs trust me boys and girls I been there since 82 breakin down to songs and still do to this day. Whatttttttttttttttttttttttt?
@iamdannywilde Oh take your Earl Grey tea and walk away then, snob. lol
I remember this from when I was in about 6th grade. Good stuff. Of course nowadays I know it's a Dokken song, and I like their song too.... they're both good for different reasons. It's okay to like the "real rock and roll" but it's also okay to dig the "poppy" stuff too. More people like this than they care to admit, I'll bet.
Even 19 years later, this song still holds up. The Party deserved far more mainstream success than what they got, the timing just wasn't right, this was released when Nirvana and Soundgarden were exploding, and pop music was in decline. The Party made amazing music, it's good so many people still remember them and enjoy the music.
@PsychLion I'd actually love if 'Glee' did this song! I was 15 when this came out & I still have the cassette single and listen to every blue moon. Just one of those songs when you were young that you love forever. :-)
@Heartboy1031 You are either 12 or broadway musical gay... No one watches "glee" that is cool or over 12. They are ALL completely devoid of any musical talent or ability. Anyways Glee is going to be cancelled at midseason
Heard this song while shopping -- been looking for it -- had know idea it was so old -- wish i had a chance to enjoy it back in the 90's -- i like the solo section but i wonder if they should have put in a guitar solo because that was the best part in Dokken's original version -- thanks for upload
@hha6 Oh that's right I forgot about satellite radio which is pretty much dedicated to every song that has made it to the top 50 at least on the Hot 100. This song was a top 40 itself #34
Where is the That's Why Video Remix and orginal mix? That was their most popular song. Plus over a year ago, someone posted their entire albums In the Meantime in between Time and The Party's Over Thanks for Coming. Someone also posted all of their concerts that appeared on the Disney Channel. As of june 2010, there is nothing on here as if someone deleted all their songs and appearances. What the hell happened?
@NobodysAngel81 Version??? Dokken WROTE it because theycan actually play and write music.. These talentless fucks couldnt write their own name. They were awful sold almost nothing and were quickly forgotten. Dokken however sold 50 million records and are a household name still
I love that this was a multiracial group before that was necessarily a common thing, and that that wasn't the group's focus-it was a talented group of five people that were good representatives that beauty and talent come in all colors.
Im jus glad I know Im not the only one who remembers this group. I tried to ask & show my cousin if he remembered them, he kept tellin me they were the California Dreams lol.
Actually, Chase has a pretty good career. He performs solo and with Tony Lucca regularly in LA. He wrote some music for the show, "Big Love," and he has his own album. He is a super amazing guy too. DeeDee did a lot of work on Broadway and now she is married and a Mom. Damon and Albert started a group, "NDecent Proposal," a few years ago. It seemed pretty good, but for some reason it didn't work out. I stay in touch with Chase & Albert. Cool guys.
I remember hearing this at the beach in Long Island, NY and it was weird. Being a Dokken fan I found it cool and it gave Dokken a credibility for having a crossover hit. BTW, this version freaking rocks.
...I LOVE THIS BAND!!! weRr can i download therR music!!! I lost alL my old stuFf in a huRricane!!! Thnkx sOo MUCH for posting this!!!... THE PARTY rulez!!!...

Please. DeeDee and Tiffini look(ed) better in natural light than most of the siliconed, botoxed, anorexic, tucked, sandblasted, spackled, and soulless females out there today! ^_^
I have to respectfully disagree. Chase's work with Buzzfly and now his solo album proves he's got a hell of a lot of talent. All five of them brought something special to the table. They certainly all could dance. No offense meant, just expressing a different view.
Hard to believe this video came out 18 years ago. The song still holds up, it should have been a bigger hit, but at least it cracked the top 40. (I think it peaked at #34 or thereabouts.)
in response to hillbilly. I agree this song was a great cover. But I think the reason it did not progress too high on the charts is because Dokken's version of this song was still fresh in a lot of people's minds.... as I said this is speculation on my part... but I think a good part of that listening demographic probably still prefered Dokken's version of the song over this cover.
you're right cause i'm 20 years old right now but if I had been apart of the 90s teen demographic, i would have rejected this song myself because this was an okay attempt to surpass the Dokken version, but there just wasn't enough rhythm/beat patterns in this song to make it worth being a top 20 instead of a top 40. i heard better top 40 dance songs then this one
mobzapper, That makes sense. A lot of my friends said the same thing in 1991. A friend of mine was a massive Dokken fan at the time and we used to argue about it a lot (as 14-year-olds do.) :) Had this not been a cover, perhaps people might see it differently. I'm not a huge fan of dance music, but I always liked The Party, they were always the underdogs on the pop landscape.
Damn this is disappointing, I never knew someone remade this great song by Dokken. I'm not trying to say the party sucks or anything its just disappointing to hear a great song from Dokken stripped of everything that is great about it and turned into an over produced pop-techno song
actually a remake is the same as a cover became any aspect of someone else's song that you're using such as the record or song lyrics it's considered both a cover and remake.

this is sooo much better than the original, i listened to the original and it lacks, something, this version just makes u wanna get up and start dancing....
I Post on this vid soooo much. I love the OG MMC. DeeDee, Tiffany, Albert, Chase and Damon. FYI, look for a side role / cameo in Sabrina the Teenage Witch where you can see Chase as a 60's beach hipster.
Always loved this song. These kids can dance! I remember watching them on Mickey Mouse years ago. I miss the 90's it was time when people actually could sing & not just rap.
New Jack Radio is launcing two new internet stations. If you like this era of music, Njs4ever Networks, LLC will take care of you. Stay tuned, and mark my words.
humankiller99, Tiffini hasn't really been heard from since The Party broke up in 1993. There are rumors, but it seems like she prefers a quieter life now. To find Chase on MySpace, look up Chasen Hampton. His new music is really good, he redid The Party's "Movin' On."
What an awesome find- bought this tune as soon as I heard it. And you can't beat the hairdos! What a great dance song! Even the kids, a TOTALLY different generation, ask for this song often!
Club MTV ftw.

George Lynch is the only reason to listen to either version... unless you're really into Mickey Mouse.

I Post on this vid soooo much. I love the OG MMC. DeeDee, Tiffany, Albert, Chase and Damon. FYI, look for a side role / cameo in Sabrina the Teenage Witch where you can see Chase as a 60's beach hipster.

Dokken just missed the Top 40 with this song in the mid 80s. Somebody else scored a big hit with it. I prefer the Dokken version, but this isn't bad.
hraor 3 years ago
I think it hit #24 for Dokken.

Always loved this song. These kids can dance! I remember watching them on Mickey Mouse years ago. I miss the 90's it was time when people actually could sing & not just rap.

humankiller99, Tiffini hasn't really been heard from since The Party broke up in 1993. There are rumors, but it seems like she prefers a quieter life now. To find Chase on MySpace, look up Chasen Hampton. His new music is really good, he redid The Party's "Movin' On."

thanks for the info.
sucks we wont see a PARTY reunion. but u never know.
good for tiff. hope she has a good life ahead of her. :)

It's not bad, but I'd probably like this a lot more if I wasn't such a huge fan of the original, I LOVE Dokken.

What an awesome find- bought this tune as soon as I heard it. And you can't beat the hairdos! What a great dance song! Even the kids, a TOTALLY different generation, ask for this song often!
