USA and England and their allies are responsible for the war in Irak and Afghanistan where more than 2 million people were killed. Those responsible have to be brought to justice before the court of human rights in The Hage for their war crimes and they should have to pay a fine of TRILLIONS of Dollars to the Iraki government for the damage they did in this war.
As I've said, I think our system should be reformed (I've already mentioned that the powers of the PM should be reduced). So you're comment about still being content with feudalism is not valid.
Most parliamentary democracies have a history of free and stable governments, whereas most constitutional republics have a history of military dictatorship. According to the Democracy Index, 9 out of the top 10 most democratic nations are parliamentary democracies.

I am familiar with the concept of separation of powers, but I don't think separation between the legislature and executive is necessary or even desirable for a democratic system. It's a lot easier to remove the executive from power in a parliamentary system than any other governmental system. That's a very important safeguard to prevent democracy becoming a dictatorship.
What governmental system do you think is better than parliamentary democracy?
The parties are not ideological - these days they follow focus groups and opinion polls for the most part.
There is clear separation between the judiciary and the executive. Yes, the legislature contains members of the executive - what's wrong with that? That's how parliamentary systems work.
You sound like an American by obsessing about separation of powers.
I don't claim that parliamentary democracy is perfect, but it's a lot better than any other system of government.
I too think the British PM has too much power, but that's no reason to change our system of government. The freest countries in the world are parliamentary democracies, the most oppressive countries are presidential republics.
Instead, I think our system should be change to more closely resemble that of Norway and Sweden.
It does amaze me how many American Presidents the Queen has shaken hands with (going right back to Roosevelt I think)... they come and go, she doesn't.
@ChlordaneDub i agree the empire had bas points ,but also good, but our whole way of life is built around the class system and too throw away the head of state would be a mistake, if anything the queen needs a little bit more power to influence the country she's the head of, but right now i think its good what we've got, after all the prime minister cant go to war, pass laws or be prime minister without her approval we just dont hear about it because she doesnt use her power all that often :)
@ChlordaneDub i do, but all countries with power abuse those without it, the usa walks over the middle-east for example, and slavery and segregation was is place in the usa well after is was abolished in the UK, you cant bring race into something like this... and the land that these dukes and barons own is normally untouched by developments, theirs no NEED to get rid of her, because she's done nothing wrong..
@ChlordaneDub no she'd not a leech, she brings more money into the country than most anyone else, including me or you, and the system works for us, better to have a head of state, prime minister and parliament than a president who could rule like a dictator
@1thehunk It doesn't matter what country you are from, Royal Protocol is for everyone to follow. Only family of a Royal does not have to follow protocol.
Umm yes it is, any one who meets the Queen while in formal diplomatic meetings is required to bow. just as Obama is required to shake the UKs PMs hand.
he lived in Indonesia when he was a kid. Bowing is a part of Asian culture. Maybe he was nervous for a minute and did what was natural in regards to showing respect.
Why does everyone have to pick apart everything and whip shi$ out of context?
Under British Protocol, a visiting head of state and their spouse hold the same rank as the Queen and the Duke. So it would be inappropriate for them to bow or curtsey.
The President and First Lady would have been told this before meeting the Queen.
I do not know royal protocol, but I concur with Wilson that Mrs. Obama is not a British subject and is not required to curtsey. She is the first lady of the US...not a duchess. Is HRH the Duke of Edinburgh expected to bow to the President? These are people who must be considered equals as heads of state. I know that HM is a constitutional monarch and is due every possible courtesy. However, those who know protocol better than I must have counseled Mrs. Obama. Thanks again, Wilson.
It isn't a big offence I agree, however as you yourself say, she is the Monarch and it is convention that she be given every possibly courtesy. Michelle Obama did make a mistake, but a forgivable one.
Well, yes, it was not really rude of Mrs Obama not to curtsey the Queen, but if she wanted to, she could have done it out of respect and no one will blame her for that. If I remember right, even another reigning monarch curtseyed the Queen.
On an added note, "B21983", it's not only British people who should curtesy the Queen, but all Her Majesty's subjects.
--- I shall explain on the 2nd part of my comment. :)
well when I used the term "British Subject" I include those commonwealth nations where she is Head of State - if I remember correctly, Canada's passport had or used to have a clause stating "A Canadian is a British Subject..."
Yes, indeed Canadian Passports used to have a clause stating that a Canadian is a Britsh Subject, but no longer. Canada removed it somewhere in the 1970s (1976, if I remember correctly) and Australia and New Zealand proceeded to do the same in 1982. The citizens of those countries are no longer British subjects. The correct term would be, for example for Canada: Her Majesty's Canadian Subject.
May be a surprise to you, but HM Queen Elizabeth II remains Head of State and Queen of 16 countries (including the UK) out of the 53 in the Commonwealth. The countries of which HM is head of state include the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, several Carribean countries and several south pacific countries.
I think that is a great tibute to the Queen to praise "her decency and civility"! I think there is no person in the World that he or she is not impressed right away when one hears the Queen deliver a speech. Her voice is magnetic and you are immediately enchanted by "her decency and civility"!
God save the queen! May God continue to bless the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland and the United States of America! Greetings from "across the pond!"
Even the most powerful man in the world is humbled by the Queen. Other countries can wish all they can, but they can never have one. Money won't buy you centuries of History that the Monarchy entails. So i say to the small minority of Republicans, FUCK OFF!!
completely agree with you mate!, i hope the monarchy stays. However much people say we dont need it, its what has made our country and others, what they are today. They need to show some r.e.s.p.e.c.t!
