There is no question that the Taxis is the most dramatic jump in world chasing. Bechers has been largely neutered, still formidable but nothing reallly dramatic and I know the Taxis was changed in the 90s but it remains a monster.
This year .. 2009 ... absolutely unbelievable race ... the winner is Josef Vana, he is 56 year old and it is his 6th victory in this race, even with one of the outsider Tiumen (77:1 I think) ... amazing ...
Actually the rate of Tiumen was 12:1. But it doesn`t matter, you`re absolutely right. Josef Vana was incredible and he really proved that he is still number one.
so, Sixteen won on a technicality... feel sorry for the 'winner' though. Can someone tell me how far the race is? Also, when is it run? I thought October, but im not sure...
I like this race because it brings horses from all over the world - or Europe at least! A good 'social' race! Im only as far as the parade ring, so I dont know who wins this... Im picking my horses! So far, I like Sixteen and Madover (for his Grand National result).,... oooh race about to start!
yellow0frog, you sound like a jockey.. any good things? i know you legally can't, you don't want to end up on a bbc documentary, but noone will know..
Agreed. I hate hope people throw that crap around saying "riders MAKE them do it." False. Spend some time around a steeplechasing barn and you will QUICKLY realize that is bull crap.

animal tormentors as heroes? are you all sick?? if you love suffering and dying that much, why don't you get yourself a job at a slaughterhouse, or in iraq maybe? at least, get some education...
I'm sorry but I have never seen her name shown in any lists about the horses which would be in this year's Grand National. Many French horses could have limited achievement in National, so, once again, I'm sorry but Sixteen would probably not be in it. Maybe she would be in the National next year. Who knows what would happen then?
I was at the race this year , and after walking the course I found most of the fences to be fair and inviting . I agree with Charlie Manns comments that it walks a lot bigger than it rides ,Speaking from personal experience(WE HAD A RUNNER IN THE GN) the English National is a tougher race, They filled in a lot of the ditch from 2 meters to 1 meter at the Taxis its now much more horse friendly but still formidable!!. I think the snake/ water ditch #17 needs to be made safer no take off sighting .
The real challenge in the pardubice is the ground the plough really tires the horses out. The taxis is huge and racehorses aren't used to jumping doubles. The National has become alot softer in the past few years so all in all I think the pardubice is alot tougher.
I'd say the Grand National is tougher. The National has Beechers, The Chair and the Canal Turn. All tough fences, the Velka Pardubice has Taxis, which is really the only real challenge of the race...
I agree. So many people say it is tougher, but all but one of the National fences are at least four feet six inches high. Many of the Velka Pardubicka jumps are small mounds or just jumps over gaps. If there were 40 starters in the Velka Pardubicka then we could give a more accurate comparison. The Taxis is the toughest jump by far.
Did he say "Like the Grandnational" This makes the Grandnational look like a walk in the park lol
You have to be totally INSANE to take part in this!!

I'm probably more educated then you are, and I KNOW I have more experience on horses. Youre the one needing education on equine sport.
