I beat the tigrex on quest: Sinking Feeling with bone sword+(great sword), full marumofu(of course, thats against cold) with a cat, 20 whetstones, 10 megapotions and everything I got from the box... nothing else... me myself and papa bare hands... simple put in the begin: look at what is available to you and if it boosts your performance/weapons... you have flashs, you got thunderbugs and trap tools, you got felyne cooks.... get creative.... how will I make tigrex suffer most?

Just keep trying. Try to figure his pattern of movement. When you figure it out. Start figuring the ways to hit him. Get flash bombs / shock traps. Gets really easy.

I mean sure it was a newbie battle, but come on he should have at least taught you guys to fight it. Flash bombs suck against tigrex if you're using a longsword. Well, heres an easier tutorial thats shorter, and makes more sense. Must have shock traps, must have 5 flash bombs then 10 bomb material and 10 flashbugs. I seriously... Don't consider long swords a good choice but the main thing is always put your weapon away after u do a combo while its open. So u can do the leap (right before it hits you while sprinting press X)

Only flash if its to save you or while its raging/spazing/ w.e u call it.

Those armours are pretty good choices for this part of the game, but once you get past this quest the difficulty curve is much higher so you might need to go for something that betters your stats to more important specs for your specific weapon
