  • This is awesome. This is by far the best video I have seen on solar cookers, in that this man really shows the solar cooker in USE, actually makes something worth eating with it, conveys the fact better than anyone else that it is not just a backyard experiment limited to a certain population of enthusiasts but something that anyone can enjoy. If he had a regular cooking program like this on TV, I will totally be more into cooking!!

  • The Emeril of solar cooking. Definately entertaining

  • I don't blame this fellow for sounding so happy and excited. He doesn't have my PG&E bill!

  • "It is nice on me- maybe you too!"

  • I've heard the problems with parabola mirror type cookers is that they have caught people's houses on fire during storage!

  • Yes but not with the fold up models

  • If the pot was insulated with an oven bag or something it would be much more efficient.

  • what manner of jungle voodoo is this?!

  • I really enjoyed this video! I want to build one now!

  • that guy is funny lol

  • I want to use one of those ovens with a pressure cooker I bet it would work just as good as on the stove. You could have a great meal in 1/2 the time. I cooked a solar meal once but the poorly constructed oven could not hold a seal after the first use but the first meal was perfect. Cooked chicken stew and rice. I want to use a solar box oven to cook potatoes no real loss of they don't fully cook.

  • I have baked casseroles in my cardboard box ovens and the carrots and potatoes always cook. Box ovens are slower to cook, so you just have to give them more time. To bake potatoes put them in a black enameled pan with lid, they will cook even in a box oven. One reason people have problems is they just aren't patient to let the oven slow cook and do its job. Box ovens are my main ovens.

  • Has anyone ever used a pressure cooker with a solar oven or some sort of set up using solar heat and a pressure cooker. Reason pressure cooking is quicker less of an opportunity of loosing a meal to spoiling. I am fearful of leaving a meal of value in the box oven and we get a train of clouds and the food temp doesn't reach safe levels. Would hate to have a $12 roast ruined and get sick.

  • There is a website where a fella uses dish similar to this in the video using a pressure cooker, and shows the steam boiling out of the valve, but can't find it right now, I forget his name, but he has indeed cooked food quickly with it. If I can find it, I will give you the link. Before solar cooking meat, I always check the latest weather forecast to make sure I will have a good cooking day with meat. That is key to successful cooking, check local weather first.

  • Type in "Bart Orlando, pressure cooker" in your search engine, and you will find articles and photos of him using a pressure cooker on a parabolic cooker.

I will say I have successfully cooked chicken, deer, beef etc in my box ovens with a few clouds roll through. I cook roasts 2 inches thick so there won't be questionable doubts if it got cooked all the way through. Using the hottest ovens or cookers are the best for meats with extra reflectors.

  • TYVM Will do.

  • And yet there's people who think there's no racism in the world, poor souls!

  • what a great idea hey.

i have seen those solar ovens that are more like a box and you can bake bread in there.

i am going to get one soon, should work well over here in australia. we have lots of sun.

  • I build mine out of cardboard boxes. One I made is out of an old antique electric roaster, check out my videos to see what all I cook in them both

  • Where did you get that cooker?

    Great job!

  • The Power of the Sun! :D

  • great show, I agree more recipes, also where did u get your solar cooker. they are hard to find here in the states.

  • Loved your enthusiasm! Please continue to make more videos of your solar cooking. Do more varieties of foods so others can see just what can be done with solar cookers.

    Great job!
