  • SSD!!!!!!!!!!

  • do you have a porn poster in the back?

  • Comment removed

  • @ryley92 it does stand for serial ata

  • @TheAPerson12 your right, im sorry, i thought the whole thing was an abreviation....

  • Haha, 500 characters is a bitch isnt it ;) but thank you. I just ordered my new pc, suppose im getting it in about 4-5 days. Thanks :D

  • Im sorry, this is probbly a stupid question, but I dont know anything about a gaming pc.

What is a SSD, and is it necessary for the computer?

Somebody please explain what it does etc? thank :)

  • @MultiKnull SSD is short for Solid State Drive. Most commonly, hard drives are hard disk drives, which are much cheaper, and work great. SSDs being used in PCs are rather new, and are significantly more expensive. A terrabyte (1,000 GB) HDD can be under $100, but a SSD of only 100 GB can cost $500. There is another good option, a hybrid drive. These use a combination of SS and Disk to deliver speeds close to that of a "pure" SSD, but with more affordability. [1/2]

  • @MultiKnull (continued) I just recently purchased a hybrid 500 GB drive for $150 for my laptop. It is very fast, and I get a decent amount of storage space. Generally, a hybrid drive should be plenty, and an SSD is not necessary. One other important bit of information is that a fast hard drive won't necessarily speed up your computer. Same with a bigger one. It will speed up any file operations, like saving a document, loading an image, or copying files to the disk. [2/3]

  • @MultiKnull (continued again) Most OS's like Windows use a lot of file operations internally, so OS speeds should get a boost too. For gaming, a fast HD's importance depends on the game. If you're familiar with Minecraft, it loads and saves "chunks" very often to the drive, so a fast drive has an impact of performance. A game with lots of assets, like Skyrim, will have less loading time with a faster HD. So those are the basics (and a ton of details) of choosing a HD. Continued again -_- [3/4]

  • @MultiKnull One other thing to look into is RAID. Mostly, RAID is for backups, but RAID 0, or stripign, one type of RAID, is good for expanding HD space. You can RAID 0 2 drives together, to effectively combine them. So if I took 2 hard disk drives, 1 TB each, and setup RAID 0, I would effectively have one 2TB HDD. Your motherboard may have an onboard RAID controller, or your can purchase one to plug in to a PCI card slot.

Wow, I just wrote a ton. Hope that helps you choose a hard drive! [4/4]

  • Anyone notice he looks like the kid from Transformers?

  • @iforgot669 ah ok thanks

  • can i delete anything from my hard drive and get some space?

  • I have an SCSI is this bad or something?

  • What about NTFS ?

  • @bradbrock1 Thats not a hard drive type thts a file system type. (new technoloy file system). Its just a standard for windows.

  • Okay, so I was checking whether the Motherboard I intend to build into my computer, and I couldn't help but to be confused by this:

    Storage Devices

    PATA 1 x ATA133 2 Dev. Max

    SATA 3Gb/s 4

    SATA RAID 0/1/10

    What does this mean?

  • SATA = Serial ATA then what does ATA stand for ?

  • you are the god of tutorials, are you a ultimate teacher or someting? xD

  • 2008? to bad all that stuff he bought was out dated 2 days after he bought is

  • I recommend the WD velociraptor 600gb because it the fastest sata hard drive u will ever find but wirg the new ssd (solid state drive) the velociraptor have been harder to find in store like best buy and probably frys in store.

  • @TheRush905 My point proven...

  • how much did all of this cost?

  • Hint hint I know something better than 3.0GBs SATA a 6.0GBs SATA !

  • I'd rather let my PC hibernate than use as much money on an SSD with 60GB that I could use on a 7200 RPM with 2TB...

  • YEAH SOLID STATE

  • If you're considering buying an SSD, please note that the capacity of SSD's is much lower than a 'normal' HDD.. If you have the money, i'd recommend buying an SSD as a 'primary' hard drive (install the OS and your 'main'-programs here) and an HDD as your secondary, storing all your data..

  • today i am going to buy i7-990x cpu what motherboard should i buy ???????????????????????? plzzzzzz help

  • SSD has far too limited overwrite capacity for it to be considered especially when you consider the cost.

The hard disk still has a lot of life in it yet, especially when you see the Raptor 10000rpm beasts.

  • You need to update these tutorials. They are way out of date and I haven't even heard of PATA. LOL

  • New info 2011

PATA: Why would you even consider?

    SATA: Pretty Good.

Solid State Drive or SSD: Just Fucking Awsome

  • pata stands for parallel ata. uhhmmmm wtf does ata stand for? you clearly stated you were going to say what is stands for.

  • giga bit*

  • SSD is upcoming but far from done, just wait a few more years. It will be cheaper too then

  • Comment removed

  • you can get a 6.0gb one now.

  • WHAT ABOUT THE SSD? THERE IS NO MOVING PARTS!

  • SOLID STATE DRIVE

  • @Frub3nz im waiting for the ssd prices to drop

  • @Frub3nz FUCKING TONS OF MONEY

  • like this vid!!

  • 2011 note: go with 6.0 xD and SATA III ftw but SATA II is still good enough.

  • you look like the main character from transformers

  • XD go with 3.0

  • its 6.0 now

  • im not going to recommand any, (whisper) go with 3.0

  • I'm not going to recommend any but get 3 GB

  • Giga BIT not Giga byte

  • If we took the fastes computer from today and took it back to the 60's with a flat screen and the lot.... we would be gagilionairs!

  • @pchelper102 all you need to check is if your harddrive is IDE or SATA. If you have a SATA HD then you want a SATA compatible motherboard(most are), if you have an IDE HD, you need to make sure your motherboard has an IDE connector.

@freshkid429 (Newegg . com) is really the best way to go

@sweetfeat1 when you get it check out

(elitepcbuilding . com) It will give you step by step instructions on assembling the computer and is just an all around amazing site.

  • @lyth0s33 the motherboard that im thinking to buy says this in the description

"8 x SATA connectors: 4 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (Red) & 4 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (Gray)" and the hard drive im looking for is "

SATA3 (6Gb/s)" so are they compatible with each other?

  • Comment removed

  • Awsome vids I'm taking a ton of notes but is this the same for a laptop

  • This guy is really good explaining the things you really need to knoow to make sure everything fits together, unlike other people who give crazy words and stuff that no one understands. Thanks Man! Really appreciate these tutorials they really do help.

  • "SATA stands for Serial-A-T-A" lol

  • is any hard drive compatable with any motherboard

  • wtabot ide

  • I thought the "PATA" was called IDE? lol bet i am wrong

  • Awesome job son keep it up.

  • His accent reminds me of Coach Z. XD

    Cool dude though.

  • Im building a computer for gaming

    CPU: Intell i7-950(3.09ghz) ($309.99)

    MOBO: 1333mhz FSB, w/ four DDR3 RAM slots @ 240-pin.($124.99)

    RAM: 2x4GB Kingston DDR3 Sticks ($139.99)

Along with a 500GB HD, cooler master case, 1GB DDR3 video card, 24-bit 7.1 channel sound card

    and a 23" LCD monitor ($189.99)

Total cost of my computer should be $1300.00

However, I am waiting until its closer to Christmas - so that I can get some better deals.

  • @sweetfeat1 nice im not building a gaming computer but my motherbored supports 16gb ram ddr2 for like $50

  • @sweetfeat1 haha dude. Im gonna build mine soon and could you please inbox me your msn or something? Because I want to ask you tons of question regarding building one. Nice processor! I was looking at it just now haha.

  • loving ur einstein poster mate

  • Temporary memorary

  • PATA? You mean IDE?

  • His accent is exactly the same as Brad Pitt's, a bit random i know haha

  • Dude, you've got a big fist.

  • Amazon > Newegg.

  • Lol, the hard drive I'm getting say SATA 300. (though i'm pretty sure that means 3.0)

  • @myachizero Nah he means SATA II. 300 MB/s.

  • WTF, Albert Einsteins sticking his tounge at me in the background!

  • ahhaha (sata)???? ssd is the best and not 3.0 but 2,5

  • lol @ Synchro Skating. But you probably get a lot of vagina and tits though.

  • your wasting my time by talking just hurry up and show us how to build it

  • SATA- Serial ATA

    Of course.

  • Micro center is WAYYYYYYY cheaper than newegg and tigerdirect, if your state has one go there

  • Get an SSD it's a lot faster but more expensive so get one that will hold your OS for more speed. the standard SATA hard drive is more for sticking shit loads of data in.

  • @urmomisfineinbed i do 6 sdd in raid 0+1

  • I loved it when he said "I'm not ganna tell you which one to really go with (go with the 3.0 one theirs a hint)" lol

  • is it possible to have 900 gb of hard drive

  • @usmceflips yeah but it most likely won't be internal. you can get like 1 terabyte (1000gb's) external hard drives.

  • @usmceflips YES

  • @usmceflips yea, its called a terabyte (1000GB) you can have up to maybe a few thousand. you can even have multiple hard drives in one computer. so yea you can have 900gigs

  • "What you wanna get is a Sata Hard Drive

    S.A.T.A

    It stands for Serial A.T.A"

Serial Advanced Technology Attachment for the super nerds out there.

I like this tutorial so far.

  • Were did you get the case and the parts from ???

  • Its not permanent :) you can replace it with a new one :) but your gonna reinstall your OS again

  • how much does it cost altogether if you plan to build one

  • I like how he made a first of power when he said "The memory on your harddrive is what sticks with your computer."

    lol

  • It does have 6.0 I saw it on a pod cast. It is freaking awsome and portable!

  • SATA has 6.0 now, does it not?

  • underware jaja

  • why isnt there a cataegory for RAM on newegg?

  • @applestomper search RAM. There ya go.

  • hey does newegg ship to the caribbean

  • Brilliant video's

    ou're really cool,

And thanks for Sharing your knowledge!

  • u should put in the prices for these parts

  • i think you did a very good job in the tutorial, its nice to watch and understandable to all people even sheeps that dono nothing about computers like my gf :-) good job, keep it up!;)

  • the best idea is get a custom computer because you already know what in it and is faster and cheaper and save power

  • what is the difference between HardDrive and Hardisk? or is it the same?

  • @Muse94Muse Hard Drive and Hard Disk are almost interchangeable. There is a slight difference, but you won't get laughed at by anyone who's worth your time.

The difference is that Hard Disk refers directly to HDDs (Hard Disk Drives) which use hard magnetic disks.

There is another type of hard drive called a SSD (Solid State Drive) which works on a similar principle to RAM, SD chips and Memory Sticks, and is way faster and more expensive when compared to HDDs. Hope that helps.

  • Looks like an IDE cable slot...

  • @paddymcgrat then how about you tell us how much it holds if ya think you know it.

  • @geek373 dude its measured in both gbpb and mbps so before you speak you should do your research noob

  • i wonder if this guy knows the difference between PATA and SATA hard drives, other than how 'new' and 'fast' the SATA HDD's are...

  • fuck alienware is from another world who the hell invent all those amazing tecnologies? ufo?

  • yea alienware is underware lol

  • how about i use my 360's 120 gb hdd? thats alot more than 3.0!!!

  • @oscarsanders07

That's the interface he's talking about, you moron, not the space it holds.

  • @oscarsanders07 how about you learn something about pc's and realise thats the SPEED they're running at!

  • haha go with the 3.0 :D

  • I NEED HELP, my dad just got £17,000 cos of something and i might be able to get a gaming pc for my b' day, im only 13 but im a seriouse gamer and also i've got GCSEs comming soon so i need one. What pc shall i get or shall i custom build one?

  • @crudnup Custom build one.... Cheaper and better

  • where shall i get it from, cyber power, arbico etc?

  • You should build you own!

I did, when I was 14 or so, and it was a great decision.

I would advise starting by looking at various shop-bought PCs, and seeing what kind of spec you want, what kind of price you want to go for. Then, get a budget, a precise max amount of money you want to spend (say £700).

From there, have a look at some online forums, and try and assemble a list of basic parts from their 'suggested' PCs, etc. Then, get them to check it, to see if it is compatible and worth it.

  • Remember, you really need a budget first, and it's probably the hardest thing to pin down. If your dad says he's willing to "Give you £1000" of the £17,000, you have a budget, but if he isn't sure, then shopping around for PCs is a good way to find one.

Bear in mind, it might seem like your home-made PC will cost more, but remember that you're going for upgradability, and you're getting better hardware that they won't tell you about in the pre-built. It's really cheaper to build your own.

  • thankyou

  • You could try buildyourown (DOT) org, that's what I used to build mine. They have some good example builds, and a great community that will check your projects for you.

If you have any queries, you can message me, and I'll try and troubleshoot them for you.

  • if you have 17,000 pounds get it from Alienware -- when yuo have that amount of money definately get it from alienware. get the Area 51 ALX desktop -- cost around 10,000 USD to get everything maxed out -- but its amazing.

  • alienware

  • trust me, dont buy that shit

    DELL= high priced shit

i work in a pc repair store as a technician and 70 percent of broken laptops and pc are dells then 20 hp and 10 percent other.

Alienware uses the cheapest parts made in like uzbeskistan (joking)

  • @crudnup I know this is going to piss off a lot of fan boys, but if you can I would go for a console, for games, unless there is some particular reason you want a PC.

At the moment I have no choice but to use a PC for gaming, but there have been just so many issues, particularly with things like DRM and multiplayer play that I never had to go though with consoles. Seriously, PSN and XBL just make things so much easier.

  • Thanks for the comment everyone and hectic but i've got ps3 and i have got my computer now. its a packard bell imedia A3621 UK. Its got 4 amd cores, i got pc world to remove the intergrated nvidia and add the new nvidia which is one of the new ones, and its got 4gb ram. The pc is fairly good but i obviously dont have enough experiance because its not amazing, i had the impression that it would be so good but its ok. comment continues

  • Im so annoyed because i cant play age of empires 3 and other games because my os is to new and doesnt support it which is stupid because surley it doesnt need an operating system to run a game, how does it help the game run by

  • When MS came out with vista the rewrote much of the Windows API. Which was a good decision overall but it messed up support for a lot of old software. Anything after Vista should work on in 7 but XP software support is a bit patchy.

    Just type.

"[software you want to work] windows 7" and you should find some solution. If you need to know how to resolve technical issues in the future, have a look at the XKCD tech support sheet.

    xkcd (dot) com/627

  • I reckon computers were like that when they were new too...

  • @hectixx Yes, def go with consoles if you are on the cheaper side, but if you have more money, the PC is the way to go. Its cheaper in the long run because: no need to buy the newest console, just a new part here and there, modding, and better graphics (if you have moneys)

  • my friend's old computer had PATA lol

  • there also as an SATA III which is 6.0 Gbps :D

  • what websites can i order all these things?

  • @freshkid429 What country are you in? In Britian I recommend Overclockers, Ebuyer, Scan or dabs.

If you're in America apparently Newegg is as good as it gets.

  • USA

  • @freshkid429 Try newegg then, they have everything you'll need, but if you're not sure about compatability they do bundle packs that you still assemble, but have everything you need.

  • @cyclocius yeah newegg is the shit

  • newegg=super awesome service and super awesome shipping....thus..newegg is the shiz

  • @purew4rrior NCIXUS is cheaper in some areas (except CPU's) though.

  • @purew4rrior Newegg and Tigerdirect. They are both awesome. I like tigerdirects layout more than newegg though. It's easier.

  • @purew4rrior What about tigerdirect.

  • @Superduperhog Good for back bones and some things are cheaper but generally i think newegg is better

  • @purew4rrior

I've never built a PC myself but I've been doing some research for the last couple of hours and I have to admit I completely disagree. I noticed that your comment was posted about 8 months ago so maybe their policies were different back then but most of the parts that I tried to find were discontinued or no longer in stock. A lot of places referred me to newegg because they claimed that they they free shipping but I went to their site and there was no free shipping.

  • @andyrooney11 It depends on the item it if is free shipping or not. Most of the items are free shipping however some aren't. None the less newegg has amazing customer service(In my experience) and if you happen to get a DOA part. It's fairly easy to claim it. I think the reason i put "Super Awesome Shipping" was because it was really fast and for me it was free.

  • thx dude lokk do you think dis is good deal:# With Power Supply: Yes # Power Supply Mounted: Top # PSU Main Connector: 24Pin # Motherboard Compatibility: 12" x 10" ATX # With Side Panel Window: Yes # External 5.25" Drive Bays: 4 # External 3.5" Drive Bays: 2 # Internal 3.5" Drive Bays: 5 # Model #: CS51WBK # Item #: N82E16811148030 # Return Policy: Standard Return Policy
  • Tigerdirect, newegg, amazon, ebay, etc.

  • I would strongly suggest Newegg. Great website and very reliable. Cheap too.

  • newegg

  • @ballubber yummy egg

  • GB/S

    giga-bit per second

  • for everybody out there 3.0gbps is really 300mbps i know your thinking "1000mbps per 1gbps" and you are right, but sata II 3.0gbps is at 300mbps because if it was 3 gigs per second i cound copy an entire 6gig file in 2 seconds but i cant!!!!! ... and dont go insulting ppl because you think they are wrong...

  • @jdfrt12569 You couldn't be more wrong. lets do some easy math 8 bits = 1byte 1024 Mb in 1 Gb So if it was 3Gbps then you would do this 3 * 1024 = 3072 (Turn Gb into Mb) 3072 / 8 = 384(Turn Mb into MB) Thus it would be 384 MBps // Since u were working with gbps I'll convert it back from MB to mbps ... You're hard drive isn't only working on that coping process or ur whole computer would freeze because it would only load one thing.
  • lololol nerdiest comment all day

  • Comment removed

  • PATA = IDE - parallel ATA = same

  • some out there can't afford such stuff

  • your the biggest noob ive ever seen its also measured in gbps because measuring it in mbps takes forever compared to gbps. basicly gbps is representing a big amount of mbps. for example 1 gbps = 1000 mbps so this should answer your question and you shouldnt be calling people a noob till you got your facts straight

  • You just made a fool of yourself.

Yes, it is measured in Gbps.

Search in wikipedia or hardware websites before writing again.

  • Great video, but you made an error in the SATA transfer speed.

It's calculated in gigabit per second (Gbps).

    3 Gbps = 300 MBps

  • isnt it 1000 mbps for 1 gbps? if so it should be 3000 mbps for 3 gbps. If i am not mistaken i believe this is how its measured because if it wasnt measured like this then your harddrive would fill up quicker then it normal would

  • yes 1 Gbps is also 1000 Mbps

But "b" stands for bits and "B" stands for bytes.

    So 1 Gbps = 1000 Mbps/100MBps

    Get it? ;)

  • I thought there were 8 bits in a byte.

  • Yes there are, but once you start going into much bigger sizes, you round it up to 10 bits in a byte.

It's easier to "do the math" that way.

  • Damn ownt.

  • i tot 1000MB = 1GB ?

    and 3gbps = 3000mbps

  • Correct.
