I think all who have negative comments or thoughts about competition in yoga are missing the point of YOGA. Yoga or yogis are non-judgmental. To bad mouthing or saying this competition is not yoga; is the opposite of what yoga practice teaches. Thank you
Yoga is not a competition and anyone who permits themselves to be judged is missing the point. Find a true teacher who will help you understand this. I believe Bikram is not Yoga.
Is she related to Jonathan P. Dowling who was Principal Scientist at Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena in California and who loves quantum info.? Google him. I am just asking.
Flexibility aside, this person doesn't look very physically fit. While I'm sure that this is exercise, the competitor here makes it difficult to take it seriously as such.
@vectorburg Really? Look at the standing leg in the first posture. Every single muscle in the leg is flexed and strong. Even the stretching postures are engaging muscular strength. The bow pose (the second performed) will raise a strong, fast pulse. Maintaining balance in poses like that takes tremendous strength. The last pose performed is an exercise in core strength. Get on the floor and try it. It is serious work. And not physically fit? That is pure body snark. She is in incredible shape.
@sharpsusan Absolutely right. I've been trying his Yoga routine from his book and have so far only made it to the Trikonasana Pose.Maybe the hardest workout I've done in my life to date!
"Competition itself is not a foreign concept in yoga. In fact, intellectual debates between masters of various spiritual traditions were a vibrant part of ancient Indian culture. Can we, however, compare ancient competitions with the modern phenomena of competitive sports? Are the two similar or worlds apart?"
On December 24,2006 at 8 o'clock in the morning, a young 14 year old boy by the name of Scott Jackson was found dead.Doctors couldn't come up with the cause of his death. His mother checked his emails to see if she could figure out what happened.Turns out he was still signed into myspace. She found he had gone to sleep after he read and didn't repost a chain letter.if you don't repost this to 6 videos a girl with no face will kill you tonight. I'm major sorry I don't wanna die, very sorry

@waaytoosassy Only from street pedlers putting their hats out. Yogis have NEVER put their practice on display. You cannot name one credible yogi who has participated in an exhibitionistic or competitive event. This is likened to praying in public.

@waaytoosassy Debates is one thing, competition is another. Spiritual traditions in ancient India DEBATED for their view and in search of truth and knowledge. There were some demonstrations of asanas of Hatha yogis through times, but this COMPETITION thing we see here is perverted and far from spiritual aspects of yoga.
what is this, ballet? performance art? dance? its not yoga.
competitive yoga. two words that don't truly exist next to each other.
what many people don't like about this video is that it purveys the myth that yoga is all about appearance and flexibility.

@janineaaaaaaa AGREED. Yoga is not a competition. It's about putting the best you forward and not trying to "beat" others.
