mars proxy what an elegant and insightful observation from an OM (Original Metalhead)! Jung's understandings should be included in our children's curriculi from the earliest possible moments...it would result in an entire generation of super-informed uberoffspring inspired not only by great music, but one unwilling to accept the bullshit of the status quo, and at the same time, offering an opportunity to lead the uninformed...
This is acid metal is ever a thing existed....proto-doom proto-stoner pro-genitor of all that is heavy.... The Lucifer's Friend self-titled and the Electric Mud self-titled are the greatest german albums ever released
I've been lisitening to this band for many years... They have always kicked it out....... And they call rap talent..Bullshit! Anything with an electronic beat SUCKS! Thats not talent, I can do all that trash, that just goes to show theres no talent in that shit, fuck anybody can do that bullshit
There were a load of great melodic bassists at the time. A few of my favorites - Chris Squire [Yes], Gary Thain [Uriah Heep], Tim Bogert [Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, etc.] and Geezer Butler [Black Sabbath]. They were essential in the countless bands that had one guitarist and MAYBE one keyboardist.
This was always my favorite song of theirs-the combination of that riff and the inspirational lyrics: "I smell coal dust in your hair/Yoo-ooo babe set my heart on fire/With your fee..."-something-"feeling", or maybe "feet". Anyway, thanks for posting it-it was great to hear it again.
I love this fuckin band, discovered them about a year ago and have been lovin the first album a lot lately, there other stuff is more prog influenced with lotsof hard rock meatloaf type piano pieces and stuff, but this is just one wicked proto metal album and riffage, in between Sabbath and Deep Purples heaviness, nice combo
I first heard this album in the early 70's on an underground FM station in Chicago...Yes FM once was commercial free !!! A year later I found it on vinyl....
This was their best in my opinion....Toxic Shadows still rocks....Thanks sabbathman8815 for posting it !!!
1969 Lucifer's Friend 1st LP... One of the best Albums of all time. SO far ahead of their time. Unfortunately this is the only one that is really good that they did.
@37coolidge I disagree. "Banquet" was totally different but equally great. Lucifer's Friend were open-minded and never afraid to experiment. We, as listeners, should be open-minded as well. There is beauty in most (if not all) kinds of music my friend.
I've never heard these guys before but they do sound awesome. Especially love the bass guitar, wish music sounded like this today. So fed up with the nigger rap shit.
It takes LITERALLY no talent to make the rap garbage thats popular today. And they say Lil' Wayne is the voice of my generation? Fuck that. The voice of a generation can NOT be auto-tuned
@marsproxy, Thanx for the uploads , I lost My first copy in Sarasota Florida , Someone stole my second copy in Ontario, Canada..I hope it's not out of print , I,m searching for another copy....
@Rootdude80 No way man. This is dark, esoteric music. Deep Purple were a very superficial band, their music never managed to have a profound effect. Lucifer's Friend carry all those grim images and they convey them with amazing beauty. A very honest band.
The album is called "Lucifer's Friend" I had this on vinyl. Absolutely a fine production. John Lawton's vocals are perfect, but who can make sense of the lyrics?
There's not much else you can say after listening to this. Excellent song...excellent production...excellent vocals and instrumentation! Yeah, what has happened to innovation (today's Auto-Tune????) in music? Makes me wonder after listening to this...
The name of the album is just "Lucifer's Friend", their very first and probably best album, although the next ones are very good too, with very creative and diversified approach to both hard and progressive rock-n-roll.. Regards...
@marsproxy it is true that next 2 albums are very creative,4th one is a masterpiece also, but nothing can be compared to the first one....this one is(IMO) one of greatest rock albums,if no the best....i mean every song is fing briliant
Best Song Best Album of theirs! Best German Rockers? NIGHT SUN ('72) HAIRY CHAPTER, early GURU GURU, MY SOLID GROUND, all those Crushing GUITAR bands of the early '70's German scene pre-Kraftwerk Kraut-rock (who I love too) but keyboard-oriented later variety...
After digging on the net for a few weeks earlier this year i founf night sun mournin on cd. Cost me 47 dollars. Shame to pay that kind of money for a cd or a lp but whatcha gonna do. Oh yeah lfs first lp is in my top 10 always will be.
Thank you Thank you Thank You for showing a pic both sides of the sleeve and the original vinyl album which I haven't seen for over 20 years(I had the vinyl when this album first came out in 1970). I've loved this album and still listen to it today via CD,but doesn't compare to the vinyl experience.
Yeah I agree with this. Billingsgate released two vesions here in the US. The first had a gatefold cover with photos (blurred) of the band inside. The 2nd release eliminated the gatefold completely. Acquire this gem freshman year 1973. I asked Klaus Meine (scorpions) about two years ago if he liked L.F. and he did he also stated he not seen John Lawton in years.
One of my all time favorite songs! This album ranks up with In Rock by DP, Zep 2, and Uriah Heep 1. I had this on vinyl with side 1 being recorded in Quad. I wore the grooves out, so I purchased it on CD. Not the same as vinyl, so I bought a first printing on vinyl off of Ebay. Still sounds fresh today! The bands now a daze suck! These guys, along with Scorps & Epitaph, were my heroes of Kraut Rock back in the 70's. MZ
killer song from a sadly underrated band the good one are always underratted though but listen to ride the sky from lucifer's friend as well another badass song.

This sounds like it could have come off Uriah Heep's first album. Kinda ironic considering Lawton eventually became their singer.
