Hell the only reason the Templar Order was discredited and destroyed was because they were moneylenders and the King of France at that time had HUGE debts to them so with his power over the Pope of that era got the excommunicated and charged with heresey, devil worship, etc. Then on Friday the 13th they were rounded up and burned at the stake and murdered in many different ways. 33rd is not really a degree it's an honorary degree. There's nothing that a 33rd can do or say that a 3rd can't. 3rd degree is the highest degree in masonry. After that you proceed to either scottish rite or york rite.

The Templars were already Masons, long before the organization of the Order.
