The hollow mode is not a transformation, it keeps using little bit of energy, but you easily refill it and can stay forever if you use energy soulcode. And yes it has a practise mode

Just charge reiatsu with square a bit, and press square+X to put on your mask. If you hit the opponent your reiatsu fills up again, so if you spam circle you stay hollow. The controls are very simple, youll notice it when you play it
