  • Went to their concert here in FL and can say it may have very well been the best concert I'd ever been to. They brought the A game without a doubt. There new CD rocks. I got to speak with Ian and can say he is very personable. Any concerns I had about the personnel changes were laid to rest. The problem is that we don't like change. We get used to a certain lineup and get all bent out of shape if it is tweaked. But be assured, this team loves and serves the Lord and will not disappoint!

  • it suck's he as be with them almost ever since ernie hass and signiture sound have begone so ye it suck's

  • Bands do go thru many changes. I personally love Tim Duncan. So I'm thinking they won't be as good...trying to keep an open mind!

  • Don't you worry about EH &SSQ; they will be just fine. The Cathedrals went through many, many singers over the years. Remember who Ernie's father-in-law was; George Younce. I am more than confident in Ernie's ability to hold that group up to the same standards, and I know very well George is up there smiliing down on him. I will certainly miss Tim; he's got an awesome voice and tremendous heart. Realize how hard it is for them to be away from their family.

  • This is temporizing bull crap -- having heard both Tim and Owen, your transparent attempt to denigrate Tim's contribution to the success of Signature Sound is disappointing and uncalled for.

You do have reason to be concerned, however, because they have lost the major reason that I was a fan and probably won't be going to any more of their concerts.

  • @shawninla Ditto what you said!

  • @alvinwren, @victoryopop You are justified in your concern for the future of southern gospel. People are dying at an alarming rate; others are leaving the industry for other careers, and for good reasons.

First, the money is not there. Forty years ago, a top-name group could become wealthy if they worked hard. Not anymore.

Secondly, the AIDS scare is keeping them home & not seeking sexual fulfillment on the road. They're getting it at home.

The 'good old days' are gone forever.

  • I'm very concerned with the Southern Gospel music. With the loss of so many of the old artists....the field just isn't the same. Then, several are now leaving their groups. The industry leaders need to be concerned, although I'm not sure there's a lot they can do about it. With the loss of so many of the older generation......the music just isn't the same......at least for me.

  • Both Tim Duncan and Ryan Seaton have joined new gospel quartets, that gives my pause as to why they left EHSSQ. Tim has to sing, he's too good not to and same goes to Ryan Seaton. Maybe Ernie can keep it together, he is a great tenor and Doug is a great singer. I wish them all God's blessings.

  • @hlwrites I tend to agree. Three of the best leaving in a relatively short period of time doesn't bode well. Soemthing's just not right.

  • I have confidence in God , that the group will sound just fine... When u have God giving each one of you The Gift to sing Its Always Perfect. Cause Our Savior is Perfect...

  • I think they will be just fine.

  • I've heard the new lead in Goldsboro, NC. He was pretty good I thought. With some time I think EH and SS will do just fine.

  • I will never see EHSS again, with the lost of two of their best singers, Ryan and Tim. They have lost me. I see them losing ground. Why did they leave Ernie Haase, Hmmm!

  • @gokahee I will be attending another one of their concerts in about three weeks here in SW, Florida. A couple of years ago, this group was hitting their stride and were very well received. I'm afraid they may have already hit their mountain top as so to speak and are now heading down. I certainly hope not, but that looks to be the case.

  • @gokahee Have wondered the same thing...and Doug...do miss Ryan and Tim...will admit when I first saw a video of them by Bill Gather, I didn't like them but...I watched and watched and still do and loved EHSS..now seems it's all changed...would love to know where Ryan, Doug and Tim are at nowadays...

  • I'm not sure if it's a change for the better or for the worse... but one thing I know well is that EHSS will never be the same again. Owens and McGlamery might be able to bring more fans in, but at the same time, losing Tim and Ryan loses a lot of fans for EHSS. What's important is that this group continue praising God through their songs.

As I said, this could be for the better or for the worse... I just don't know. One thing I do know is I like the old group better and I miss Tim and Ryan.

  • I thing Signature Sound will never be as good as before without Tim Duncan,,, I dont like it that all that he left. Does anybody knows what is the reason why he left??

  • NOOOOO!!!

  • ian's good, but tim is up there with JD and george as one of the best bass singers ever...and no offense, but i do not agree with what you said about him having a better tone than tim...he was probably a better soloist than JD or george and thats what makes him so good

  • I don't think the replacements can handle the jobs that Ryan & Tim did. It looks like Ernie is using the new bass singer in more solos. The replacement for Ryan can't cut it. They were my favorite group but in watching a couple of clips I lost my interest in the group. I think EHSS is on a downslide.

  • @MrLucky60067 I'm in agreement with U...I've heard the "new" EHSS and nooooo it isn't near as good as when Ryan and Tim was there...I know Doug went on his own but why did Ernie let Ryan and Tim go?? Get 'em back Ernie, Get 'em back...

  • Why did he leave? Is he going solo or going to another group?

  • timbre? just so you know, its pronounced TAMBER. Thanks for the update.

  • Each guy had to come into his own. It's that way with everyone. Just as you said, Tim wasn't that great in the beginning. It's really not for us to speculate. Our opinion just doesn't matter. Life goes on. Ian and Tim have different voices. Whether you think they're "spiraling downward" is irrelevant. He's not Tim, and personally, I don't expect him to be Tim. Nothing takes God by surprise. He knows the future and He's made preparation for it.

  • I saw Signature Sound in concert in Oklahoma City on 9-16-2011. Compared to a year ago, I would say therir stage appearance is much better. I thought their harmonies were even tighter. I think Ernie has done a great job in this regard. Regarding the new bass singer, I thought he was great. In my view, Signature Sound is better now that it was a year ago. Go see them if you get the chance.

  • Your loss, because we have him now at cornerstone church!!!! we are very happy to have Him! :-)

  • I really like Tim Duncan and Ryan Seaton, and it's a shame that they are no longer with EHSS. However, Ernie Haas and Doug Anderson are great, and I think the group will still be good with the replacements. The group is much better now that they have matured and their performance is more Spirit led instead of being so showy with all those choreographed moves. And I think the Cathedral sound is a change for the better.

  • Tim, Ernie, Doug, and Ryan = EHSS Current group = EHSS Light. Seen both live.

  • EHSS sound is boring ...It started with roy leaving,,then Ryan and now tim.

they had a young and exciting sound. Now Ernie prefers this Cahterdral sound and it is ruing the group

  • If Ernie's personality as the boss is the cause of the changes ? However EHSS has the Gaither backing and support and LOTS of money to get whatever talent they need, so they will continue to have a beautiful sound and a fun presentation that will cause their popularity to grow. Change is not ALWAYS bad, even in politics. God bless EHSS and we'll continue to follow them !

  • We're forgetting that Ryan was not the first lead singer, andRoy was not the first piano player, etc, I WOULD like to know i

  • i think that when ryan left, the group went down hill....when they lost tim theyre not worth listening to!!!!!! they lost there two best people.

  • ryan leaving was surprising but i beleive devon is a good fit but i was very upset to find out that tim left he wasn't george but he was or is very good the group will never be the same and if ernie reads this i want the next shot at bass

  • i thankthe group started going down when roy left. ryan left was a shock. but when tim left the group isn't good anymore

  • I MISS TIMMY :(

  • Any word on what Tim may do next?

  • Timbre is pronounced (Tam - ber) not (Tim - bre). I miss Tim as well...have a good one!

  • You guys, lets not freak out. I'm sure that Ernie wouldn't have picked these people if he didn't have complete faith in their singing and other talents. I don't think they are going down hill, just in a different direction than before. Every time someone switches out, the whole group changes. Look at how many people have left the GVB. And they have been doing well for several years. I think we should leave them alone and see what happens....

  • I think the group is going to be fine, there are other voices and they are really good

  • Every time there is turnover in a group there is some heartbreak, especially when a member has been there for a long time like Tim was. The natural thing to do is panic, cause let's face it, Tim is one of the best bass singers ever. But if we can learn from any group, look at the Vocal Band. As much turnover as they've experienced, they have become masters at preserving the group through new talent. Given time, I believe Ian will be just fine with Signature Sound, and Devin as well.

  • Even though it is a surprise that Tim Duncan has left the group, you have to realize that in the business that they're in the lineups change constantly. Sure it may take time for this group to reshape its harmony. With new voices comes new styles but overall, I dint think this group will suffer much because of the popularity they established in the beginning with Ryan Seaton and Tim Duncan.

  • I agree that SS is in a downward spiral, and that will continue until Haase is no longer with the group. Haase can only fool so many folks for so long of a time.

  • I miss Tim!! He was sooo good...Wish he would return to EHSS....not the same without him...

  • After listening to some amateur recording s of EHSS with Ian, I am sad to say he does not have the "gospel drive" and vocal clarity that Tim has. The new group needs a LOT of serious rehearsal and stage performance time to even begin to develop what EHSS was with Ryan and Tim. Before, it was tight and polished. Not so much now. Ian would be great in a church choir.

  • Don't worry about it. God's still Large And In Charge. As my pastor says, "The only people who like change are wet babies!"

  • EHSS well do ok The Gaither will help this group get a good bass singer

  • God provides the tools, the people and the opportunities for those who serve Him..... I recently saw EHSS April 15th and Ian nailed it.... The group has not missed a beat.... My favorite quartet ever....

  • Think of all the ups and downs of the Gaither Vocal Band over the years. EHSS was founded on prayer and nothing in this world grows without adversity and trials. I will continue to love EHSS and follow them.

  • I was able to go to the concert a few weeks ago and felt that the new guys did well, but I will definately miss Ryan & Tim. These two guys blended well and I hope after some time has passed the new guys will blend as well. The connectedness wasn't there yet, but I won't stop going to concerts, because God is always glorifed and that's only thing that matters in the long run.

  • I think EHSS will do fine with Ian. I thought Ian was good when I saw him with the Imperials. I've seen Ian in concert before and he is very very good, not saying Tim wasnt, but I think that the group has a very promising future no matter who is in the line up. George taught Ernie everything there is to know about picking new members and I have total confidence in Ian and EHSS.

  • never forget you Tim...God Bless You!

  • I love you, Tim. God bless and keep you always.

  • My husband and I just got home from hearing EHSS and they were fabulous! Just as good as before. Ian and Devin are really talented, Christian men who will do well. We'll miss the others but the group is still very strong. The group is about Jesus! not Ernie or them as individuals.

  • This is very true listened to him on youtube was excellent all the best to Tim too who I enjoyed as well I love Bass singers

  • Groups change all the time and move on I enjoyed the New Bass singer myself good luck to them still my Fav group at moment

  • @achinner

  • @achinner Life is full of choices. We have to stand firm in our choices even when others think differently. It would be presumptious of me to conjour up scenarios of why Tim left. I was sad to see him go, but I love EHSS, and will continue to be a big fan. I recently saw them in Spartanburg and was impressed at what Ian has pulled off in such a short time. Ernie had pneumonia and still put on a great performance. Ian has a rich voice. Let it all hang out Ian. You are chosen!

  • I love Tim Duncan. I did some research and found that his departure could be due to a health issue. He suffered a mini stroke in July of 2009 and since that time he has never fully recovered according to what I read. I did not feel that Tim's departure was because of ill feelings and it sounded like it was a hard choice. I am not thrilled with the new guy but he needs a chance. I was also a huge fan of Gorge Younce and did not think any one could be as good, Well Tim is.

  • I sure miss Tim , Ernie needs to get Tim back. The new bass singer has a long way to go. He will never sound as good as Tim. SORRY

  • I agree, it will NEVER be the same

    Without them.Ernie kept saying

They're just like one happy family

But that's not how real family

Works. Especially the family of God.

And I'm not so sure the quit on their own.

I heard their owned by Bill Gaither.

And their being replaced Way too easy.

We loved seeing them together as family.

Not family split apart.we see enough of that, truly heart breaking :(

  • with Ryan and Tim gone, you don't have Signature Sound!

EH may become a solo act! Doug sure better stay or it's bye bye EHSS!!

  • Come back Tim PLEASSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

  • With Ryan and Tim Duncan gone EHASS will NOT be the same. They will be both missed VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think EHSS will survive the changes, Ernie is a strong leader of the group, and has many years of experience. He knows how to choose a new member for the group. Devin has done exceedingly well, the transition was much smoother than anyone expected. Ian is a little rough around the edges, but that will pass. We will miss Tim sharply, as we did Ryan. Ernie said, and I repeat here, these changes are to be expected in quartet groups, and on the road musicians have a fairly frequent turnover

  • wow without Tim or Ryan where will Signature Sound end up...

  • Tim is just sitting at home with his family for now. I hope ur right that they come back..... At least Timmy has to come back...... I think theyre doing pretty good with Devin, but we all miss Ryan and I do to.............

But why dont we just sit back and relax and wait on something from Ernie or Tim himself, letting us now what he is doing and if he's going a solo by himself or if he found a group that needs him.

  • I do agree with u, I think that with both Timmy and Ryan gone now that it just wont be the same without them. I have hard him (Ian) sing. He's good, but he will never ever live up to Timmy. And the same why Devin replacing Ryan. I just hope that Doug isnt next, cuz then I just think that they will lose there fans. And the fans are what help keep this group alive, and if there gone then EHSS will be gone to.

    Katie

  • i think that they will make it out okay. they have devin which to me is a great singer. and of course they have ernie hasse and he is really good. ian im not so sure about and doug idk but i think that they have lost some of their best people and i hope they come back

  • Great video Ric... Man you are growing up young brother..... IMHO Ernie Haase and SS are just going through growing pains. The good groups usually do make a fair amount of roster changes. They will be back to their old selves given a bit of time... Looking forward to more video's.... Keepin the Bass spirit alive and kickin.....

  • I agree & disagree with u about some of the thingz u said in this video. The things I agree with u on r the fact that EHSS did lose 1ne of the best bass singerz ever, also agree with the fact that Tim had become more part of EHSS and he is more clear and Ian isn't able 2 hit the very low notes as well as Tim could but Im sure he'll get there. However 1ne thing I disagree on is the fact that EHSS may b spiraling downhill I think they will do great with Devin and Ian though I will miss Tim with them.

  • @BigTimmyDuncanFan Tim Duncan wasn't a super low bass either.

  • @biglhot75 Thatz your opinion but in my opinion I think he was a low bass.

  • @BigTimmyDuncanFan I agree with you, he is a low bass aka contra bass, no question. He just isn't a super freak like Tim Riley or Jeff Chapman, Chris West ect....

  • He left to take some time off the road for a little while... he needed a break. A rest you could say.

  • @victoryopop

So... he is coming back?? I hope so!!

  • Where did tom go to????
