  • These thugs didn't even care what he was saying, which is evident by their childish cheers and hollering at the end of the video. Mr. Johnson continues to do a great deal for London and the funding of rape crisis centres will do a great deal to help those women and men affected by the terrible crime. Instead of hounding him, they should be giving him credit.

  • Well, Boris Boris kept his promise - see the Evening Standard tonight for confirmation.

The only rational response for your group is to work for Boris' re-election. I look forward to hearing from you on the campaign trail.

  • You're supporting a good cause but with that "chicken feed" question you completely undermined it with a deeply unnecessary partisan attack. The impression I got from what Boris was trying to say is that there are some constitutional issues standing in his way (hardly surprising given he's only responsible for local rather than national government). At least he gave you four impromptu minutes out of his schedule instead of just cycling off at the start.

  • I completely agree with you. That is exactly what I thought.

  • Mayor Boris Johnson will be making an announcement on the Rape Crisis Centres on Monday on his new YouTube channel /mayorsofficelondon

Just last week you were protesting and this week he is tackling the issue. He is the people's Mayor!

  • Well done to those who were protesting. It is so easy for politicians to make promises and then do nothing. It's really important to show them that we don't forget so easily and are willing to take action. Rape Crisis centres are so important and deserve proper funding. Until this happens please keep protesting.

  • It's a bigger crime to be a hippy. These women are the types who value the act of protesting above what they are protesting against.

  • That's an unnecessarily vicious approach.

What these women want is decent services for rape survivors. Boris is reneging on his election manifesto promise and these women will do whatever it takes to get him to provide the money he said he would.

The survivors of rape are the important ones here. Not the protesters, not Boris, not anyone with a scathing and unhelpful remark on a YouTube video.

  • I know of some of the people who are protesting, do you? I know for a fact that their true motives are far more sinister than you suggest (this does not apply to all of them). You are in danger of sounding like a bleeding heart. If these people are that sincere, surely it's more important to defend shelters for abused children or the many more worthy causes which find no redress through the courts.

  • I was one of the protesters.

To protest against a broken promise is not to ignore other causes. To support one campaign does not suggest others are less important. I campaign on many things and always will.

Currently only 18% of women who contact the last remaining Rape Crisis centre in London get a response. That's a shameful statistic and one I and other campaigners are aiming to improve. If you genuinely think a raped woman is less important than an abused child you're just as disgusting.

  • I absolutely believe an abused child is more important than a raped woman and I make no apology for it.

  • Consider your argument completely undermined.

  • Not at all, you believe it is undermined. Is it not prudent to value the welfare of an abused child above that of an abused adult? Would you consider murder more serious than rape??

  • Your argument is structured upon measuring one form of abuse against another and deciding which is worse. An attack upon a vulnerable person aged sixteen is more heinous than an attack on one aged seventeen? That's your argument? That's your reason for criticising a campaign to help rape survivors?

Your stance is baffling and contemptible.I nothing more to say to you.

  • Are you unaware that the majority of women who contact a rape crisis centre are doing so as adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, abuse that went unasnwered and unhelped as a child, leaving them in depserate need of help in adulthood. For you to say an abused child is more important than a raped woman is insulting and shows you know nothing of either subject. Often both cases of abuse go hand in hand. And well done to the protestors for bringing the topic to the fore again.

  • It's easy to make up statistics and say 'majority of women who contact a rape crisis centre are doing so as adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse'. Prove it, either way, it doesn't come down to one or the other, I'm just saying if you HAD TO choose, it would always be the child, if you HAD TO choose you'd do it to.

  • I'm not "making up statistics", i know as fact that the majority of women seeking help at my local crisis centre are adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

And your argument saying "if you had to choose" ?You're the one throwing that in, no one in this thread or in that demo or boris pledge or any government thing is "choosing one over the other", there is time and money and care for both subjects, it is not a case of "choose one or the other". Unless youre a hater like you online that is.

  • I don't hate anyone, not even you. Do you swallow?

  • And well done to Boris for actualy stopping and talking about the issue - Ken would never have done that...

  • Brilliant! I hope you made him feel guilty! I reckon doing this will have made all the difference for your cause.

  • great slogan, boris boris keeping your promise ,

  • Fantastic work, I only wish I could have been there to support you. Hopefully an active campaign will persuade Boris to keep to his pledge.

  • Well done girls.

  • lulz

  • why was he not wearing a helmet?

I guess his brain is well cushioned in that skull by hot air.

well done on getting hold of the man! lets hope he lives up to his promise

  • Sounds good, doesn't it? But don't forget that Boris promised £744,000 a year for Rape Crisis centres in his election manifesto but has been steadily reducing this figure since then. He also promised to 'act immediately' but Rape Crisis hasn't received a penny from the GLA and reported rape has gone up 14.5% since his original pledge. We're glad he's taking this issue seriously, but we can't let him reduce his commitment.

  • Boris on his bike ambush. Great campaign for the London Mayor to keep his election promise on funding for London's Rape Crisis Centres.
