  • lol random coughing in the backround

  • I am sorry to say, but this is not such a good interpretation... the Moonlight Sonata is written for the tempo=55, while Gillels plays it at tempo=40-42; moreover, he barely interpret the modulations specific to the Clasical music, except the note of the fifth finger of the right hand; but, the crescendo starting with 3:12 is almost flat, since is should expess the dificulty of climbing to the highest point of 3:35. The descending part (down to 3:47) is also flat. Listen to Valentina Lisitsa

  • Sublime!!! Only Emil Gilels play like this ... and make me cry...

  • perfect!!!

  • This and the presto agitato by Gilels (also on this channel) are the best performances I have heard of sonata 14, particularly because this a live recording. It is difficult to describe how surreal these performances are! Crazy-extraordinary and imposibly brilliant come to mind. Thank you EvaHartwig for sharing :-)

  • @Bret6464 -

As if I listen not to Gilels' performance, but Beethoven's himself.

  • @EvaHartwig Yes :-)) Also when Gilels plays Rach it's like hearing Rach play, when you listen to Gilels' Chopin Ballade 1 it's like Chopin is performing.

  • Excellent. How come nothing like this is being written today?

  • They should shoot the coughing song-ruiners!

  • Бетховин, раньше, был на луне, чем люди))))(нечего плохого, просто красивую музыку писал!

  • @DemosVV -

    Вы правы, наверное.

  • wouao que hermsa cancion

    thanks and best wishes.

  • this emil gilels guy was my great great uncle, though he is not alive. You go uncle emil!

  • This music is absolutely fantastic!

  • Emil Gilels is one of my favourite pianists! He plays this masterpiece beautifully!

    Thank you for uploading.

  • It's the same. This is the first movement of Moonlight Sonata.

  • What's the difference between ths and moonlight sonata, someone help me

  • "moonlight sonata" is a commercialized name given to beethoven's opus 27; a sonata will have 3 or 4 parts (movements), and this is the first; the latter movements are not nearly as popular, and are ignored when people refer to "moonlight sonata" because most don't know that a sonata is several "songs" (call them "pieces" though, please)

  • Slightly slower than how most play it, and a little more Romantic...but I say it works very, very nicely!

  • ummm...isn't this the 'moonlight' sonata?... or is it diferent...? i have to learn a lot of piano songs for my class and sooooo i was just wondering...

  • Please see You information window.

  • @ilithiani it's the first piece of three parts,

Adagio sostenuto. The whole piece is called Moonlight Sonata.

  • this music is forever

  • Magnificent music

  • Sans doute trop romantisée mais c'est vraiment cela que j'aime entendre !

    Et quelle sonorité magique !

    Sublime.

  • this performance is so unique, those delays before he presses the tones are so beautiful

  • Pure beauty. Heaven.

  • ¡¡¡Qué Límpido y Cristalino en cada Nota, Hondo y Aterciopelado en su Expresividad!!!que Fiel al Gran Beethoven!!!-BRAVO POR SIEMPRE MAESTRO EMIL GILELS!!!

  • Emil Gilels always found the authentical proper style of each composer.

And besides his performances get much of pianists generous personality.
