  • KANEDA. HIS FUCKING NAME IS KANEDA.

  • "91 percent of shield in full sunlight.......... 94 percent of shield in full sunlight.......... 97 percent of shield in full sunlight.........."

this bit gives me chills, as does the "what can you see" part.

  • "Kanedo...what do you see?"

    "Kanedo...what can you see!?"

    "Kanedo!!!"

  • best scene of the movie

  • couldnt agree more, it's so good in sooo many way's, it's undiscribable (<-??)

  • Great movie...its a shame its so underrated, a scifi film somewhat the opposite of the core. instead of restarting the core of the earth they restart the sun. great movie, sountrack that suits the video perfectly. like cheese and crackers. like tab a and slot b...You get the picture.

  • gets me all twisted just listening to it...damn this was a good movie...so hard to do good sci-fi it seems

  • this moving was amazing until it turned into a slasher film.

  • @Srrycowzz Yeah. From what I understand the writer of the film and Danny Boyle (director) had differing opinions on the captain's (from Icarus 1) role in the story, but Boyle compromised, allowing the slasher-ness (i MIGHT be mistaken, but I believe that's the case). But know what? You KNOW a movie's badass when it's still memorable and amazing despite something like that.

  • the slasher point was rellavant in my opinion.this was a guy who had been out in space alone went mental thought he was talking to god who wanted the earth to die.fits the story and makes u think how ud be if u wer all alone in space

  • Eww @ 2:30. You can practically hear him gurgling on his own boiling bodily fluids! What a way to go, beats being eaten alive by a pack of chiuahuas I suppose.

  • I just watched the movie and LOVED IT. Although, like many others, was slightly disappointed by the last portion of the moving that turned into a "slasher". But, I understand why they decided to do it, and I still think this is one of the best sci-fi movies.

  • this music just makes me want to get up and go do something amazing.

  • @YouDidntdoAnything like put your amazing comment on youtube?? lol im kidding. nice toughts.

  • This movie is great in that it embraces our human flaws and puts it up against such dire odds. There are a lot of movies about sacrafice, but few seem as.......human and real as this one. Have faith in humanity, for we are capable of so much more than could ever have been imagined.

  • The only down to the film is a burning man for me. but his biblical dialogue gave the film a little more "cult classic" factor. perfect samples in the hiphop- electronica world .

  • Yeah he really wasnt necessary to the plot, would have been a better film without him.

  • It could of been better if the burning man's dialogue was on a haunting recorded tape instead , for a creep factor maybe. Either way I can only assume the writers thought they needed something to spice up the ending. If not, the ending would of been a lot more tame.

  • Possibly, but at the same time I feel his influence on the ending could easily have been replaced by another internal / external source and thus removed the whole 'slasher' section which seemed to detract from the whole theme of the film.

  • Very true.

  • I thought it the ending was a bit strange.

  • @adam3088 fair comment, but can you think of a different way for the movie turn? i often thought if there was a wa to finish the movie withou bringing in the burning man

  • @ SDR1005

Agreed. Pinbacker's appearance detracts from an otherwise brilliant movie. However, I like the idea of a surviving crew member. If only they had given him much less dialogue, and what is up with that voice!? So stereotypical portrayal of the-marooned-crew-member-gone-insane. Guess it could be sorted in a director's cut (provided that Danny Boyle isnt too happy with it either).

Otherwise the movie is nothing short of epic.

  • Yeah I'll second that, his appearance wasnt neccesary at all, the film should have been purely about the crews battle to complete the mission against the odds stacked against them and their own weaknesses, not about some nutjob appearing and stabbing people for a few minutes out of the blue.

  • you guys got down. exactly

  • it was for a biblical thearic feel for the bible bashers

  • i curse john murphy for making a soundtrack that makes me cry every time i hear it. but i still listen to it all the time., it is just nothing short of amazing.

  • I only found the movie because of Cillian Murphy on the cover, and thought oh this could be kinda cool, and now i always want to watch it. ts easily one of my favorite movies.

  • Agreed. The music, the many different layers of meaning, the effects, the editing, the minimalistic suspense... everything comes together beautifully in this scene. I sometimes whip out my DVD copy just to watch this scene. And yes, Searle's "What do you see" is haunting.

  • This part and the ending are probably the most emotional and best parts of the movie

  • this is one of the most epic deaths in cinema. its amazing what a song can do to a scene like this

  • Best Sci-Fi movie of the last 10 years.

Sci-Fi isn´t just big starship battles or monsters, space can be beautiful, too!

  • I'd say this is one of the best Sci-Fi movies ever. It just needs some work on it.

  • "Final panel closing, shield is secure.." best part hands down.. You can hear in his voice that he know he saved the ship and did his job, but he also knows it's too late! Sacrificed him self for his crew and the earth. What a great captain and a great way of dieing.

  • dying

  • one of the most poerful movies ever and this place is the culmination.... afte 2 years and lot of views, still chilling and amazed... what do you see - i hear it in my dreams, really

  • powerful, after

  • +1 Definitely my favorite part "Kaneda, what do you see? What do you see?"

  • Pfff, oh yeah, this movie is amazing. Ive watched it over 30 times in the past 2 years and still do watch it.

  • 1 93876002 Kaneda-Ast-Hum-Mal-Law Died on the Astral Plane on level 6. Annihilated by the sun, while helpless.

  • Kenada what can you see?...

    I see the light...

  • this movie is amazing. so epic, thrilling, emotional...

  • words cannot express my adoration for this movie. the self sacrifice in this movie makes me cry like a baby

  • Kaneda! What do you see? - I'll never forget this part.

  • neither will i, soooo epic. No matter how many times i watch this it still makes me shiver.

  • "Icarus state reason immediately!

    Fire in Oxygen Garden..."

  • GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE.... What do you see?????

  • one of the best scifi movies ever...

  • yeaaah!

  • Might be one of the best scenes I ever saw... still after the 100th time i watch this it still makes me shiver...

    Love it!

  • too right man

  • me too man

  • one of the most underrated movies ever !!

  • I agree.

  • YES! You dont really hear ppl taking about this movie and I simply dont get it.. it is... epic. Right up there among the brightest of stars in the scifi genre.

  • they'd probably be calling it a modern masterpiece had Pinbacker never made an appearance. He ruined the movie.

  • Absolutely 100% correct. I understand the need for a threat element to build up the suspense and action for the finale, but the old bogeyman theme has been done to death. The sun itself could have presented enough challenges. Pinbacker would be the captain of a mission to save the planet, he would have been the best man in the world for the job. He would not have fallen apart like that. Ridiculous.

  • this film shows what people are truly capable of with the right purpose and motivation.

  • Well Said

  • This is one of those scenes you kinda feel bad for loving. I mean, the awesome captain dies to the freaking best score of the whole film. Not really fair. But damn, what a powerful scene.

  • Not many directors/writers these days have the courage to let the hero die in the film. I'm reminded of the original 'Poseidon Adventure' where the Gene Hackman character, having been a hero for most of the film, gives his life toward the end in a wonderfully touching moment of self-sacrifice. Sunshine is in good company, in that respect.

  • One of the strongest scenes in this movie.. this along with Capas jump always gives me the chills!

  • it always gets me: a cold chill crawling down my spine when i see this...

  • I can never get enough of this movie or sountrack!

  • This scene was so superb

  • " Kaneda - what can you see? KANEDA WHAT CAN YOU SEE?? Kaneda!!!"

so chilling - i love their fixation on the sun, its so... i can't explain it. its chilling and fascinating.

  • One of the greatest lines of the movie its so.......so......I cant explain it, its Epic.

  • What Kaneda did say before he died? Something japanese I think..

  • i dont think he says anything .. i think its just an unintelligble scream as he dies .

  • 98 % in full sunlight

    :(

  • i reakon thats the best bit in the movie, in fact i might go watch this now. so insperational.

  • Searle's death scene is nearly as good, better if you like touching dialogue.

  • searle...we're leaving now. we love you.

  • "It's to far"

    :(

  • Some might say this film doesn't have "A-list" stars in it, but they forget it has Chris Evans in it, who's been in a few things like the Fantastic Four movies. I actually prefer Mace to his Torch character, though, even if they *are* completely different. And of course, Cilian Murphy has been in more films than I can count., and is definitely more of an A-list'er than most so-called A-list'ers. He actually has talent, but shuns fame, which is why Danny chose him in the first place.

  • Case in point: Kanedo and Capa Repairs Shield

A well placed track. Watch this scene and listen to the score...

I gave it 2 Thumbs Up and 5 stars. Though my associates felt contrary...I think and feel I KNOW movies better than them.

Kenny, Allen...go BACK to school and learn HOW to watch a film. They disregarded this film due to the opinion that the stars of this film weren't "A-listers" like Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Clint Eastwood and so on...

  • Sunshine is highly UNDER Rated.

John Murphy and Underwolrd had well placed tracks thoughout the film

  • amazing movie..

  • woooooooooooow

  • captin got cooked good

  • this movie was so underrated. it's such a beautiful movie

  • I know it is one of the best movies of the 21st century so far

  • yes its not the best movie EVAR.

but its realy emotional. i cried at some scenes

  • yes but the style was like 28 days later or something... a little creepy but an exelent movie

  • Fantastic film , fantastic movie

We are stars dust in front of the universe...

  • fantastic film!

  • I think this movie would have been near perfect if they had just omitted Pinbacker. He brought the movie down to a more standard "monster movie" level.

  • his character was a rip-off of another movie.. also where a ghost in the form of a fleshy man figure comes into a spaceship and terrorizes the crew ending in an suicide ending aswell by the main characters.

  • i think he wasn't a ghost he was alive

and his skin was like that because

he had major burns from the sun

  • That movie is called event horizon.

  • no it's not

  • Otheos2006 was replying to Chiszle.

  • It's called sunshine - amazing movie!

  • My plan is to totally steal material from this movie when I break into Hollywood and call it my own since this movie was so under appreciated and chock full of amazing crap like this scene with the sun moving across the solar shield

  • Combination of helmet-speakers, voice of main computer, counting the percents and this epic sound... my god i love it :)

  • @placatykamen

I think the best part of it was the "What do you see?" by Searle

  • @placatykamen

Yeah this scene is epic. There is so much going on.

    "Kaneda, what do you see!"

(I agree with the many posts here regarding the slasher part. It detracts from a movie which is in other respects - epic)

  • WHAT DO YOU SEE???!

  • This movie was completely underappreciated and under-marketed.

I will now watch ANYTHING that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland put out..

  • I SO agree with thefarter14, this movie was amazing, I guess it wasn't popular because it wasn't full of "celebrities" what a shame, amazing scene, thanks placatykamen for the incredible video =)

  • I knew you'll be happy for this awesome picture ;)

  • @ShrikeA14

it wasn't popular because 3/4's the way through the movie it turns into a pile of horse shit.

the "slasher" element totaly ruined this for me, but up until that point, i thought it was hugely clever and well shot. The scene with Kanada's death is absolutely astounding.

  • @RENN357 absolutely correct comment.

  • @RENN357

Yeah the slasher part was a huge mistake. I like the idea of the-marooned-crew-member-gone-insane, but it just wasnt carried out well. I wouldnt go as far as to say it ruined the movie, but it certainly detracts from an otherwise brilliant movie.

  • @ShrikeA14

I agree it's highly underrated, but it could have been way better, if it hadn't gone with the cheap slasher/thriller part.

  • does any 1 no where u can see them repair the shields like visual

  • Kaneda had the best death ever

  • this movie did not get enough credit it was awesome

  • My favorite part :)
