Safari is web safe, and Depending on what you mean by "Web safe" here are a couple of useful notes for you: Firstly Internet explorer is the worst browser on the market. It is extremely vulnerable to attack and not secure at all. It has the worst support level for CSS and JS than any other browser. The only reason you would need this on the mac is if you are a developer like myself and need to test your site on IE.

As I said, Darwine mimics Windows as best it can. It tries to mimic the window environment. To do that you need to change the mosue to a windows cursor. If I moved my mouse out of this window it would have reverted back to a Mac cursor. I could film it showing my entire desktop if you want.

The scrollbar and mouse pointer look like that because Darwine is emulating Windows. If I was using Windows Blinds it would have skinned both of them, not just the title bar.

It's not Mac OS X, but rather Linux with compiz-fusiona dn Tiger-accurate theme for windeco. Linux can run IE6 & 7 via Wine, so it's not a problem there. Notice that you are not shown the entire desktop, just IE window - so it's not a mac, surely.

I didn't? This is IE7 in this video. In order to get it to run the author of Darwine uses a trick. He takes the rendering engine in 7 and puts it in the interface of 6. So it looks like I'm running IE6 when, in fact, I'm running IE7.

However at the end of the day IE still dominates a large market share and websites are made so that people can access them if youre an IE user and you find a website all over the place then the likely hood is that youre just going to move onto another site almost like blocking the door on to people of differenct race. Like my lecturer says there is a real need for a web browser standard set of structures but no one can agree on anything.

Never mind I figured it out (well almost). If you want to download any extensions/addons just click the download link while in ie6 for mac and select open instead of save and it'll install on the browser. So I did that for flash, java and a few other things but can't get quicktime to work. Any other ideas?

Actually, it does. The difference is that it runs ei7's rendering engine inside of the ei6 window. So it looks like you're running ei6, when infact you're running ei7.

I was working on getting Safari and IE6 to work in Ubuntu 8.04, have you had any luck with that yet Macintech. The safari browser wouldn't even load, but IE6 does load, but can't really browse sites. I did install Google Earth in Ubuntu with great success, but I had to turn off Compiz for it to work smoothly.

Ies4Linux will let you do exactly what I did but for Linux (what I used was a port or Ies4Linux to OS X).

As for Safari, I'm not sure it's possible.I have seen screenshots but it looks really messed up. What you can look into, though, is something like a IETabs for Firefox but instead Webkittabs (Webkit, Safari's rendering engine, is open source). I know that people have gotten Webkit to work with Konquerer and Webkit will be K's new rendering engine in the coming months. So it's plausible.

Ok cool I think I did use the IE4Linux along with another program that makes it easier to install games and applications with WINE. I'm gradually learning about Linux myself and really starting to learn a lot more about it. The Compiz Theme with it's true 3d desktop is just so cool, why didn't Microsoft copy that I don't know. Anyway, the beta of firefox 3.0 just randomly crashes on me when viewing youtube video's, just a minor annoyance, but I can recover.

I remember Darwine. I think it's just about abandon ware though :( Almost all Darwin projects, but Mac OS X have been dead. I remember the days of GNUDarwin and openDarwin, it would be nice if they came back. I've been having to do all the work myself to get Darwin compiled and installed, I got a copy of it with GNUStep and Gnome. And in OS X leopard, I have KDE installed. Nice vid, but I'll stick with Webkit and Firefox for debugging. I want IE to follow the open standards, maybe with v8

What I'd REALLY like to find is a reliable way to convert QuickTime movies to wmv format if I want to share or collaborate with a PC user. My upgraded QT player claims to do it, but only spits out the first 20 to 30 seconds of converted video, which kinda stinks.

Back when I used an AVI camera and only had Windows, I edited in Windows Movie Maker. It opens AVI's pretty well.

I believe that's what my Mom's webcam records to as well, and she has no problem editing in WMM.

Also, FCE4 has no difference in export options than iMovie. The export options iMovie very good. But iMovie and FCE4 aren't meant to export videos in a non-pro format (ex. WMV). That's why you use a converter afterwards if you need it.

Yeah one of the biggest mistakes I see people doing after they finish a project is convert the video into a compression codec in the Editor lol. Have to keep telling them to use a converter app like Compressor or Quicktime, not the Editor :P *YAYs for Compressor*

Well, it uses Darwine, which is an OS X port of Wine for Linux. Wine is designed to run Windows applications, however it will not run IE by default. That takes a ton of configuration, but luckily the guys who worked on IE4Linux did a fantastic job.

Mike then took IE4Linux and made it IE4Mac using is version of Darwine (which is usually close to the latest release of Wine).

But yes, it is without virtualization. It's like a native application. Also, it costs nothing.
