  • There are a lot of industries that are incredibly slow in adapting new technology. You would be downright flabbergasted at how many people still use IE 6. You need to take these things into account when it comes to development.

  • why this program often refresh the page when it open the site of youtube.com?

  • Yeah, lets see that handle the directx alpha image loader with a 32bit PNG, then I'll be impressed. If not, I'll keep my windows box, thanks

  • Dont hate on IE becuse your computer sucks Im using 2gb of ram and it works sppedy as light imagine if I hate Safari on here...

  • I tried this. But every time I install using winebottler i get some registry error. Can any body help me. I really need IE 6 / IE7 on OSX 10.4.11

  • windows you retard

  • Whoever thinks MIcrosoft really fucked up IE, please thumbs up this comment.

  • @knottsknocks try saying that when playing on IE9

  • get a mac

  • Good video, but who needs IE? If you're working on web developing, just paste a not and say, "Works Best with Firefox, Sarfari or Chome."

  • IE is good except that its a little slower compared to other browsers.

  • @quest8899 How do you figure sport fan? It suck with Javascript and it's hell with CSS. I can't stand IE! It's a shit hole! One in which clients frequently ask me to swim!

  • I never thought I needed IE for development work, I use firefox

  • I hate IE ! F**k u !!!!!!!

  • this program fuckin freezes all the time

  • Maybe you're doing it wrong then?

  • @changoleonation

Its running windows apps, what do you expect?

  • 去死好了!

    出 Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0,就是臭微軟出的。

    最後傳統版本 IE 6.0。

  • Is this stuff working for anybody else ???

I installed everything but when i open IE6 the page opens it freezes and the the IE gives me an error and then i have to close it !!!

    thanks

  • 1:02 just sums up internet explorer right there

  • Why would you WANT those on your Mac? 6 and 7 suck! 8 is okay but it's not on there!!!

  • So that you can test your websites to make sure they work in IE :)

  • I love darwin as a web designer and as a mac user this is a one of a kind tool for the noobs out their i recommend you take a step back and understand what this video is meant for.Best tool ever

  • Hahhahahah I love how you demonstrated the acid test failure.

  • i think that apple should make safari more web safe

  • Wtf do you mean by that?

  • Fuck off troll.

  • @JohnathenDavis i second that

  • @MacintechStudios the safari is safer than other internets.. and other internets can play more and do more on internett .. but .. safari it is safe. safer on some ways so, u cant do all things who give virus ..

  • @JohnathenDavis Your an idiot. Safari is web safe, and Depending on what you mean by "Web safe" here are a couple of useful notes for you: Firstly Internet explorer is the worst browser on the market. It is extremely vulnerable to attack and not secure at all. It has the worst support level for CSS and JS than any other browser. The only reason you would need this on the mac is if you are a developer like myself and need to test your site on IE.

  • if this is mac then howd u get the cursor?

  • As I said, Darwine mimics Windows as best it can. It tries to mimic the window environment. To do that you need to change the mosue to a windows cursor. If I moved my mouse out of this window it would have reverted back to a Mac cursor. I could film it showing my entire desktop if you want.

  • @FreeYTbackgrounds PARRED

  • Um... no? I don't use Windows as my primary OS, why would I invest money into Windows Blinds? This is Mac OS X. I am using Darwine to run IE7 in OS X. I am not in Windows. The scrollbar and mouse pointer look like that because Darwine is emulating Windows. If I was using Windows Blinds it would have skinned both of them, not just the title bar.

  • oh... i don't really know anything about darwine.

  • safari is the worst browser on the planet hands down....naa chrome is lol but its close...if you want your browser to crash 10 times a dat pop open safari...use firefox

  • Safari 4 is 4 times faster than Firefox and 8 times faster than Internet Explorer.

  • i dont care what a test says...i use it everyday along side IE and it stinks...it crashes so frequently its retarded. this had to be address in their keynote and they didnt say they fixed it they said the made it so only the open windows crashes lol sothey know it stinks and the acid3 test that they go so hard off of still means nothing if i cant access any of the portal sites i need to...

  • WTF??

Who in their right mind would want such an idiotic web browser on their computer?

It's bad enough it's included with windows!!

  • We webdesigners need to test our shit on every browser. So yes even on the crappy microsoft ones

  • i prefer safari

  • IM ON SAFARI RIGHT NOW COOL

  • It's not Mac OS X, but rather Linux with compiz-fusiona dn Tiger-accurate theme for windeco. Linux can run IE6 & 7 via Wine, so it's not a problem there. Notice that you are not shown the entire desktop, just IE window - so it's not a mac, surely.

  • it is on Mac OSX, click the links in the desciption and read

  • me too but i need Internet Explorer to download a certain game which safari cannot it is called Gunz

  • that's the only reason mac os x has internet explorer. some things need internet explorer and that's another reason why mac os x is perfect.

  • i didn't even no they had IE

  • HOW can we get that? where do we download it?

  • you didn't get ie7 to launch. I have been messing with darwine x11 and ie7 for a while now and can't get it to run. IE6 as you show tho. np.

  • I didn't? This is IE7 in this video. In order to get it to run the author of Darwine uses a trick. He takes the rendering engine in 7 and puts it in the interface of 6. So it looks like I'm running IE6 when, in fact, I'm running IE7.

  • Why the HELL would someone want the world's WORST web browser on the world's best Operating System?

  • Web design. Or if a website they need to use is IE only.

  • Lol, web designers should try to avoid people using IE. They should force people use another browser. Nowadays IE only websites are very few. Perhaps a better alternative would be to use IE View Lite, firefox addon.

  • indeed

but we know thats not easy, so we need to adapt to the market

    =/

  • I agree IE should be banned especially people using IE 6. However at the end of the day IE still dominates a large market share and websites are made so that people can access them if youre an IE user and you find a website all over the place then the likely hood is that youre just going to move onto another site almost like blocking the door on to people of differenct race. Like my lecturer says there is a real need for a web browser standard set of structures but no one can agree on anything.

  • @emperordarius you're probably one of those 'i can do whatever i feel like' webbuilders. You're messing up our business man. Get yourself for real and face the fact that not everyone is using the things you like. Quit whining about stuff and get your lazy ass up to make it compatible with all browsers. besides that addon only applies to a few specific css rules that are disabled.

  • i think i did it wrong is the sign for it an e with a rope around it??????????

  • i dont get wut to do can u help me plz

  • can someone put a vid showing ie7 on osx?

  • Try PlayOnMac and Wine 1.1.14

  • Hi, installed it and works great thanks. One issue however I can't figure out how to get quicktime on the browser? Any suggesstions?

  • Never mind I figured it out (well almost). If you want to download any extensions/addons just click the download link while in ie6 for mac and select open instead of save and it'll install on the browser. So I did that for flash, java and a few other things but can't get quicktime to work. Any other ideas?

  • this is a windows with Mac OS X skin...

stupid... you made me waste my precious time!

  • No it's not. This is OS X using Dariwin.

  • Why are you so ignorant? You can't even do your research properly. OS X is made by Apple, Windows is made by Microsoft. It's pretty damn awesome that you can run Windows apps in OS X. Can Windows run OS X apps? Nope.

  • Yuck.

  • Why would you want IE on a mac? Just to show off and prove that you could? I did it on a hackintosh with crossover for that reason.

  • You can't think of any reason? I can think of two: 1) A website requires activex control (many school websites do), 2) You're a web developer.

  • ActiveX? Do you mean that proprietary, monopolistic DRM bullshit that can control how fast your fans move? If so, I've encountered a sight called "realgames" that only offers monopoly support.

  • Um, no, this is a Mac. At th time of this recording my PC would die before it would be able to record at this FPS.

Also, to prove that this is on a Mac, look in the title bar. You'll see the icon for X11, meaning X11 was running this app.

  • Can you please post all the steps to run IE on MAC. I installed Darwin and Trix I choose applications from Trix after installation I cannot see IE. Can you help me?

  • how long does it take time to install...

i have been waiting since minutes... could it be, that it take as long as this?

  • It takes quite a bit.

  • would it work on max OSX 10.5 leopard?

  • ....What have I been using in every video I've done?

  • Downloaded it, said it wasn't supported by my system..?

  • Only intel-based Macs are supported.

  • internet explorer 7 doesn't work...

  • It did. I think the latest wine implementations broke it.

  • thank you kindly

I would have donated more, but I'm broke

  • can make a virus?

  • It doesn't run IE7 correctly yet.....

  • Actually, it does. The difference is that it runs ei7's rendering engine inside of the ei6 window. So it looks like you're running ei6, when infact you're running ei7.

  • I made too many typos. It's running in IE 5's window. Must have been pretty tired when I wrote that and kept saying EI lol.

  • Thanks a bunch! I got it to work!

  • I was working on getting Safari and IE6 to work in Ubuntu 8.04, have you had any luck with that yet Macintech. The safari browser wouldn't even load, but IE6 does load, but can't really browse sites. I did install Google Earth in Ubuntu with great success, but I had to turn off Compiz for it to work smoothly.

  • Ies4Linux will let you do exactly what I did but for Linux (what I used was a port or Ies4Linux to OS X).

As for Safari, I'm not sure it's possible.I have seen screenshots but it looks really messed up. What you can look into, though, is something like a IETabs for Firefox but instead Webkittabs (Webkit, Safari's rendering engine, is open source). I know that people have gotten Webkit to work with Konquerer and Webkit will be K's new rendering engine in the coming months. So it's plausible.

  • Accept my friend request, I found a tutorial for getting Safari in ubuntu I'll PM you.

  • Ok cool I think I did use the IE4Linux along with another program that makes it easier to install games and applications with WINE. I'm gradually learning about Linux myself and really starting to learn a lot more about it. The Compiz Theme with it's true 3d desktop is just so cool, why didn't Microsoft copy that I don't know. Anyway, the beta of firefox 3.0 just randomly crashes on me when viewing youtube video's, just a minor annoyance, but I can recover.

  • I must admin, it looks like your using Windows in this video, just because Macs have a black cursor, and not white, like windows....

  • When you use X11, your curser automatically becomes white. No idea why Apple did that =/

  • thts deff. windows dude

  • .... No "dude" it's OS X using Darwine/X11 and if you don't believe me, that's your problem as I listed linksin the description to do this yourself.

  • Scratch that, it's a wine thing. Ask the people who make Wine :-)

  • I remember Darwine. I think it's just about abandon ware though :( Almost all Darwin projects, but Mac OS X have been dead. I remember the days of GNUDarwin and openDarwin, it would be nice if they came back. I've been having to do all the work myself to get Darwin compiled and installed, I got a copy of it with GNUStep and Gnome. And in OS X leopard, I have KDE installed. Nice vid, but I'll stick with Webkit and Firefox for debugging. I want IE to follow the open standards, maybe with v8

  • Darwine isn't dead. True the official port is, but take a gander at the link in the description. This guy is updating his build of Darwine every few week. He has even started including another port of his to install fonts, flash and stuff just incase some applications need them running (like games).

  • Aw cool thx ^_^. Long live Darwin!!

  • lol nice.

  • That's not IE 6 or 7.

    That's IE 5.

  • Scratch that; I just read up on it. The interface is from IE 5 though...

  • Yeah, emulating the interface from IE6 and 7 is impossible at the moment, so they just run IE6 and 7's rendering engine from IE5's interface.

  • I'll check this out! Thanks.

Perhaps it might even make MySpace not SUCK to use...though that's probably asking a bit much!

What I'd REALLY like to find is a reliable way to convert QuickTime movies to wmv format if I want to share or collaborate with a PC user. My upgraded QT player claims to do it, but only spits out the first 20 to 30 seconds of converted video, which kinda stinks.

  • Use Stomp to convert to wmv. Though I'd suggest converting to AVI as that's more prominent in Windows. If you do buy Stomp, tell me please (affiliate program).

  • Thanks, I'll check that out too...although I MAY have better luck converting to AVI in my current player/editor. I've just encountered people specifically asking for wmv. Do ya think avi could be edited in MovieMaker that a lot of people use?

I HOPE that once I move up to FC4 it might have better export options than dinky little old iMovie!

  • Back when I used an AVI camera and only had Windows, I edited in Windows Movie Maker. It opens AVI's pretty well.

I believe that's what my Mom's webcam records to as well, and she has no problem editing in WMM.

Also, FCE4 has no difference in export options than iMovie. The export options iMovie very good. But iMovie and FCE4 aren't meant to export videos in a non-pro format (ex. WMV). That's why you use a converter afterwards if you need it.

  • Gotcha! Thanks...sorry to go off-topic on your video!

  • No problem.

  • Yeah one of the biggest mistakes I see people doing after they finish a project is convert the video into a compression codec in the Editor lol. Have to keep telling them to use a converter app like Compressor or Quicktime, not the Editor :P *YAYs for Compressor*

  • I sometimes compress using an editor. This is usually only if i want to get things out fast though. But sometimes it's due to my compressor (Stomp) acting up or something like that.

  • Hehehe, insane work! Without vmWare fusion or any other apps!

  • Well, it uses Darwine, which is an OS X port of Wine for Linux. Wine is designed to run Windows applications, however it will not run IE by default. That takes a ton of configuration, but luckily the guys who worked on IE4Linux did a fantastic job.

Mike then took IE4Linux and made it IE4Mac using is version of Darwine (which is usually close to the latest release of Wine).

But yes, it is without virtualization. It's like a native application. Also, it costs nothing.

  • Exactly what I meant :-)

  • I run vmware so there is no need for me to do it this way, but it is very handy for those that don't use vmware or similar programs or even boot camp to be able to use IE. Good tip I must say.

  • It's good for people who don't want to waste 4+ gb of storage on Windows just to test their websites in IE6 and 7

  • I USE MAXTHON2

  • Maxthon isn't a fantastic browser in my opinion. Too slow.

  • ie sucks...its the worst browser out there

  • Read my reply to Macintoshmad.

  • Safari is ftw

  • Yeah, but web developers need to test their sites with IE, so this is what running IE on OS X is for.

  • Great vid! Very interesting.

  • Looks good!

Oh, and I don't want to sound like an ass, but it said 'Views: 0' when I loaded this video ;-)
