  • is iron oxide reactive to all aluminum (like tin foil)

  • i hope that oxidized the shit out of his hand =) KCIO3 left a nasty blister on me while testing. Now I never be a rocket scientist without leather gloves on.

  • Got to love a decent displacement reaction.

  • This is used to make naked iron from his oxide..

  • its aluminium... If you say aluminum youre wrong (might as well call calcium calcum or lithium lithum...)

  • @TinyFloyd - I dread to think what calcum might actually be? 0.O

  • are you crazy from that close with a naked arm :X

  • Lots of funny comments over aluminium/aluminum. Especially since the ones on the side of aluminium can't pronounce their T's, H's or R's in normal conversation. And since when is "me" in place of "my" proper? Anyway, I'm sure you can find better things to hate Americans for, right? We're used to it.

  • @the26thhour Maybe so, but I can spell correctly. Re-read your comment and tell me how many times you, purposely or not, mis-spelled your words.

Your opinion on my opinion falls even further below par with your text-style spelling. "U" is a letter. Not a pronoun.

  • @zodial - lol

  • no not aluminum !! everyone knows its pronounced TIN! lol

  • Which ever American decided to say aluminum instead of aluminium is a bastard. and who ever says aluminum is also a bastard. like other ppl, said most other languages DO say aluminium. also look how these others are spelled: chromium, rubidium, strontium, yttrium OH LOOK they all have 'IUM' on the end! sounds stupid if u take the I out!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ALUMINUM,..??? You Americans bastardising OUR language. Damn you! It's A.L.U.M.I.N.I.U.M you ignorant fools!

  • why the hell do they always say aluminum, its aluminium, the whole world says it that way...

  • You're an idiot. I'm guessing that you guys are bastardising every other language in the world. It's only Aluminium in the U.K

  • In English it is Aluminium, but also in other languages, like Dutch, German, French, almost every other language.

  • @Jeronimous84 i though in english its aluminum not aluminium

    im german

  • English is not anyone's language, just as God is not any one person's God. You have a way of saying things, so does every other person. Don't get angry at your own ignorance and them blame others for being ignorant. You are showing your ass...or arse, however you prefer.

  • but english is a single language. Americans say they speak english not american.

Although i do get wat ur tryin to say, kinda like protestant & catholic? both christian, both different yes?

  • I don't know how this got into this, but I'll say a quick response. Yes, you're right, that english is a single language. However, you must remember that just as there are different beliefs within a single religion (such as your example), there are multiple dialects within a certain language. True, saying ALUMINUM is not saying out the "E-UM", but the whole purpose of language is to convey thoughts and ideas, and we all know what is being referred to when someone says ALUMINUM or ALUMINIUM.

  • ....and I believe that is more important than trying to bash each other for not saying things the way that we "should" be saying them. While it is annoying for some of us that people do not attend to proper grammar, there's no reason to call each other names for it. Again, you know what is being referred to. If she referred to aluminium as GUITARIUM then we would have a real issue :)

  • @CombatMedic67 Too bad god doesn't exist. Fairy tale analogies don't help, but I agree with the point you made.

  • I WANT TO REMAKE THAT AGAIN XD

  • what? iron is magnetic!!! thermite once ignited reduces iron oxide to iron and oxidises aluminum to aluminum oxide

  • sugar is a reducing agent

  • The iron oxide alumninium mixtura can be easily burnt by burning magnesium

  • how could you avoid burn you??

  • yeah it is thermite lol

  • It is also called Thermite...

  • why would NIST reject this hypothesis. It looks more convenient that thermite was used than never seen before RED HOT ALUMINUM heated by jet fuel.

And why da hell the FBI confiscated over 20 videos of the plane wich hit the pentagone???

  • there is no sodium in there. You can ignite thermite in many ways. They chose to use the oxidation of sugar to light the reduction of iron.

  • I think they meant KCLO3/4 and not KCL and sugar... wtf

  • thats what they said...

  • spike0804 is right 0:11 potassium chlorate KClO3

  • can you use iron oxide(FeO) instead of iron dioxide(Fe2O3)???

  • why don't you go learn how to name molecules properly. Also, the answer is no.

  • i dont see what i spell wrong but thats not my point, fucktard!i just asked a simple question??

cuz i got a bag of FeO (Black rust) and a bag ow aluminum powder,if it works then i dont have to bother buying something else!!!i know there are 16 diferent iron oxides,i dont think you knew that, and i didn spell anything wrong!!!you are the guy who should learn some chemistry, you 23yo fatass!!

  • The correct names for the compounds you listed are iron(II) oxide and iron(III) oxide. Alternatively, the Latin names for iron can be used instead of the Roman numerals. Anyway, the reaction will only occur with the iron(III) ion present.

  • where do you get iron oxide??!?!?!?!?!

  • Its easy to make...

  • It's rust look under your car.

  • Dude its rust...

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Where did the aluminum oxide go?

  • aluminum oxide? i don't think there is such a thing..

  • there is. Wiki it.

  • right right...got me there but thermite is iron oxide and aluminum..not aluminum oxide

  • Lol,

    Fe2O3 + Al --> Al2O3 + Fe

Al2O3 is Aluminium Oxide. So the thermire reaction produces iron and aluminium oxide.

  • I think you've got something messed up there... not sure cuz I'm not a chemics genious

    You've got:

-Fe2 in the beginning but end up with 1 Fe

-1 Al in the beginning and eng up with 2Al

if the beginning is correct then I think you should end up like this:

    Fe2 O3 + Al -> Al O3 + 2Fe

But I presume you messed up the base:

    Fe2 O3 + Al2 -> Al2 O3 + 2Fe

Let me know if I'm wrong.

  • Its Fe2O3+2Al ---> Al2O3+2Fe

Checked with chem professor. You have to remember to switch the valencies during this ionic reaction. Al2O3 is released as fine particles into the atmosphere (during thermite reaction)

  • wiki is bull shit any body kan put false sruff on it

  • it is bs, i went on and made the article on vancouver say that it was in los angeles, mexico... they changed it back the next day though.

  • wiki can be bs sometimes. Thats why i checked with a chemistry professor. and now iv checked with several others.

  • wikipedia is actually a great site, you cant really trust it when u need to know something for sure but its rly good if ur just looking for some general info on something.

  • You can oxidize just about anything, just burn it. But the aluminum "burnt" up in the reaction.

  • This is called redox - reduction and oxidation.

  • That's thermite but if u want really good thermite use powdered red iron oxide and aluminum powder

  • I think he burnt his hand

  • you'd know if he burnt his hand..thermite burns at approx 4000 degrees F.

  • 6000 degrees if made with magnesium instead of aluminum.

  • Lmao, lots brighter, too!

  • i got to do this in a chemistry lab!!! very cool

  • rofl man,if u wana melt your chemistry lab go ahead..

  • It was a lab experiment - the teacher wanted us to do it lol

  • Awesome

  • Excellent, Excelente
