This tutorial was extremely helpful. I just got CS4 and had been so used to using The Gimp to do this effect that I was lost, lol. I'd checked out other videos but this was so quick and easy, thank you!
Followed your steps and it could not have been done any better or easier. I did it with a black background and white text so I had to use common sense & use the oposite gradient effect. But it came out great. Thanks a million.
Everything till adding gradient went well. When I held shift and dragged the line half way across the word ,nothing happened.Anything that I might be doing wrong?
when i try to do it as you do the half of the mirrored word doesnt go away. so when i did what u did everything stays as it as. only half of mirror was a lil white
If you're talking about mirroring text you can do it just as in the video so long there are no blending options attached to the layer. If you have blending options, like strokes and gradients than you'll have to rasterize the layer. Go to layer/rasterize/type.
thanks much..:)

Make sure you colour pallette is correct. When you are mirroring the image and using the gradient you'll want a black to transparent gradient.
Watch from 3:53 onward that's the part dealing with the reflection.
