I say I'm going to go on the computer for 10 mins.. turns out to be 5 hours. God! If I only I can overcome this stupid addiction I'll have plenty of time to study, exercise and live life! Internet addiction is a big problem.. nowdays I don't know why it's not in the media spotlight, and it's only going to increase as time progresses and technology advances.
I have the same problem. I tried last week, but somehow failed. So I am going to library to study. People say you can´t stop it at once, but reduce the time day by day
Back with results...20mins later. I haven't even left this page because I was distracted with other things on the net. D: Holy freaking shiz...owell. .w.

Nice, this explains why I'm so spazzy so often and why meditation is so incredibly powerful for my focus... it's because I'm so out of balance, I need to train the part of my mind that can focus on one thing and eliminate distractions.
so how many people have they cured? Same scam. same con. same rambling. shameful. It seem the government has chosen to only, yes only this model psychiatry we all know as BULLSHIT. If you dont make many on checklist then it's does it effect you life and that what they decide not you.
They will obvious want to use psychiatric treatment, a silly check-list or observations and people that vote on you.
@bumbro07 I wouldn't call it a myth, but I've looked into this and it turn out I was wrong and you're right. The Wikipedia article on Neurogenesis was very enlightening. Thanks.
@bitteoszillierensie sure thing. It's a new development. Many people still believe that neurons can't be regenerated. It's not as fast as other kinds of cells, but it's nice to know that I'm still making neurons to replace the ones I loose.
I understand what he means. But the irony of what he suggests is that we as viewers of what he is saying. Are debunking what he is saying at the same time.
A good example is youtube. We have the random retarded people "trolling". But we also have an area for many people to chime in with rather poignant thoughts regarding the topics we come upon or active search out.
Such as listening to this fellow speak and THINKING about the nature of what he is talking about XD
Nowadays I spend most of my time on the internet, but not when I was young. When I was little I had trouble concentrating with distractions around, or I'd always distract myself with my own thoughts. As I grew older my ability to concentrate and filter out distractions improved, and each day the hours I spent online increased. I am often lost in thought, once even to the point of not noticing the sound of gunfire. The internet does a good job of distracting me while I am on it, though.
When I do get lost in thought, it's usually when I'm not concentrating on something, such as when I'm alone. My thoughts are my distraction and my concentration.
This is, by far, the most helpful and informative video on this issue, because it's so comprehensive. He addresses the physiological and intellectual effects and dangers inherent in too much emotional and intellectual involvement with the internet. (I had to laugh at myself; at precisely the part where he talks about attention gaps, I had to replay because I wasn't paying attention!) Thank you SO much for sharing.
I have to admit while this video was playing I was half watching the TV on mute, talking with someone via facebook, updating and talking to another two people via twitter, checking my blog and opening a separate tab to write this comment. Even after I realised I kept doing it all automatically anyway, how embarrassing.
The part about video games is pretty clueless since many big epic video games, like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Fallout New Vegas, Dawn of War 2, Dungeon Siege 3, etc.etc. are exactly the opposite of his perception of video games.
The internet is not a video game. Sure, some use it for nothing more than games and social media, but that's not a requirement. I can watch hours of educational YT videos, so much RL lectures breeze by. I can read days of news and pedia entries, so much newspapers look like leaflets. It has only improved my concentration.
I hate to agree, but the emergence of websites such as Youtube and Reddit have diminished my concentration and attention span. I now have an automatic timer in my head that after a certain number of seconds wants to switch to a new subject. I even have trouble watching a full youtube clip without wanting more stimulation from another source.
I think this is a reaction to information overload. The other option is simply to turn information off.
@bluethinggg Consider this: maybe man hasn't before now had ENOUGH in which to be interested. This lack has benefitted man in the past: think of the guy with nothing better to do than lay in the grass and look up at the stars: do that long enough, and you might come to recognize orbits. Or the person that has "nothing better" to do than study math. Or fool around with chemicals. But now, I'm thinking "internet addiction" might simply reflect a natural predisposition we could have.
@bluethinggg Oh my lord, yes! I have at least 5 tabs open every internet session. I read an article while I listen to a youtube clip. Listen to music while I read other articles or blogs. It's madness.
