@Rollydamaster There really isnt a "correct" way to play their instruments. People have different theories on EX: "whats the best vibrato method for trombone, slide or jaw?" Maybe u should reword it to "excellently"
@XxSpiffxX That greatly depends on the song. You use the slide if you need significant vibrato , and your "jaw" if it needs to be less than significant.
This piece is magnificent. The calm serenity of the lake along with the hill really emphasizes the song's beautiful nature. This song is definitely something I'd like to play with my buddies.
My Band teacher told us (my grades band class) to look this up if we wanted to. So obviously I did and then I was greeted immediately by a beautiful sound. (I kind of wonder if he will see my comment.)
@XxSpiffxX You're kidding right? Conn makes the best sousaphone ever. If they can make sousaphones sound good what makes you think they can't make good concert instruments?
@MrGuitar144 Lol i think this could be a location argument. In the U.S, we dont think conn and bach are that great of brands. I'm a bass trombonist with an Edwards. I would say like 80% of professional bass trombonist use Edwards.
@xXChineseBoiXx Yamaha is a cheap brand. They work but don't have the best sound. Bach and Conn's have better sound and such a great ensemble deserves the best instruments
@xXChineseBoiXx once they get older and you get better, you will notice a difference. That happened to me with pianos, my teacher has a Yamaha and i have an Essex, guess what sounds better.
I played this. I was so honored to play it, we played it for a memorial service for our friend that passed away this year. The trick is to have emotion. Let the music guide you, and watch. Our quintet played it without a conductor, because we conveyed parts through movement.
My brass quintet is working on this now, and we're having an unexpectedly difficult time putting it together. Any tips or tricks that may help? It would seem we are all unsure of each others' intentions as far as rubato goes, and despite how much we try to work it out, it never really seems to "mesh" very well. Some of the rhythms between the horn and tuba are a little confusing as well.
@AVerbene Whoa, excuse me?!?! Canada ABSOLUTELY has terrain like that. As it clearly states in the credits, this was filmed at the Elora Rock Quarry in Elora, Ontario. In CANADA!!!
Yes, very beautiful! And, the music looks so easy on paper, but getting the sound is not so easy. Goof alert: camera operator was wearing red, so you frequently see red reflected in the bells. There is an obvious full body reflectionof the operator at 3:00.
It's hard to express such beauty in words. The best one can do is feel it. In your heart, or in your smile, or even in your tears. It makes you feel Canadian. That's what's best of all.
@13371337able, Hahaha Kinda. Me and another guy switch off. I am more consistant with my range than the other guy, but he sounds more like a lead player. How did you guess? lol I am better at classical playing. =P
I love this recording of this piece. Simply my favorite and the best i would have to say of this recording. We are playing this piece this year for college (i play horn). I can't wait to see our ending result. Thanks for this post.
@jonnyc93 There's a reason, they were playing this in honor of Michael Kamen, who died that year. They had commissioned him to write this piece for them. I've just realized the broad scope of Kamen's work & his is the newest of my 550 playlists of the world's best music. 350 artists have lists and every year since 1900, so this is now on 2003's playlist. My great thanks to canadianbrass for this beautiful tribute to Michael Kamen.
@Thetubaeddie Usually they make some tuba mouth pieces like that because they have a much larger mass, then say a trumpet. So they interact with temperature which in turn screw up intonation. So the plastic ones are used on sousas a lot and other outdoor playing.
holy shit, that was amazing
