  • Thanks again. I have been watching your shih tzu videos over and over. My groomer gave me lessons before she moved on how my dog was done. I had him done every 4 weeks since he was 5 months old. He is 3 now. She took videos of him, sometimes he slept during his groom. SHe told me always use a 30 blade under my stainless combs, so I have one ordered. I need thinning shears, which I am ordering tomorrow, but I am psyched to make my dog look good.

  • I am so happy I found your channel! I have two Shih tzus and it gets quite expensive to groom them. They are boys and LOVE being outside so they get dirty and messy. I have bought three sets of clippers Wahl, and two other brands.. Human clippers. I have no luck with these. They won't cut the hair for some reason? Can you give me any suggestions? Thanks so much for taking the time to do this!!

  • at what age can you groom your shihtzu? how do you groom a surper short hair shihtzu?

  • what a great teacher.

  • Thank you so much for these videos. I have a one that is 1/2 Shih tzu and 1/2 Bichon Frise (Zuchon/Teddy Bear dog). Is there anything special that I need to know about this particular coat, being the Bichon's coat is curlier underneath. Her coat always ends up looking like a "mop" in a week or so after grooming. lol

  • I will never let you shave my shihtzu that short and the face was not round

  • Love the tutorials. I am a groomer in training, doing a home study program and your videos are very helpful and even better than my instructional dvds in some aspects. One question, what are your recommendations on handling dogs that are extremely squirmy? I seem to be getting a lot of calls from people with dogs that either haven't been groomed much before or are "problem pups", probably due to the fact I'm grooming for free to gain experience. Any advice would help!

    Thanks in advance :)

  • @tjsmomster97 - I have just graduated from 2 dog grooming schools and have been doing some hands on. However, I lack confidence and am having problems with feet and heads. The groomer I am working with scissors the head (top knot) and uses mouse on all dogs' heads. I think I need to use the clippers in the beginning. The scissoring I'm not getting right now and get finish out a dog. Any suggestions?

  • @guitarzanification I mean't mousse...! LOL!

  • Thank you so much for your videos. I have saved them all in my favorites.

  • affreud !!!!!

  • Thank you so much for the 3 videos on how to trim a shih tzu. I spend 60.00 every 6 weeks on him alone and I am trying to save money by doing it myself. I am shopping for a grooming table and everything I need to get started. Do you have any recommendations for a clipper? Does your trimmer get hot? It's going to be expensive but I think it will be worth it. We have a Golden Retriever as well. Thanks again for the great videos.

  • @palomino627 I suggest andis 2 Speed clippers, you can see what I'm talking about in my video "Clippers and Blades"

  • I like Ryan's Pet Supply better than pet edge. Shipping is cheaper and faster and prices are competitive.

  • What # blade for a longer cu coat? I want 'pant legs' on my lil boy.

  • @MESALINDA52 The longest actual blade I know of is a 5/8 blade. That will leave it just a bit shorter than an inch. Feel free to watch my clippers and blades video if you would like to see all the blades.

  • when you said you used 5 blade for thes Shih tzu's body does that mean 5F or 5FC or plain 5? and what is the difference and should I have both? and if i were to use a guard comb is there difference between the metal and plastic and what size should i buy i have seen them for sale $4.99 each attachment comb. and also brand would you recommend and which brand blade do you prefer?

  • @shell12345678 5F and 5FC are the same thing, a 5 is a skip tooth and I don't recommend anyone use that. The F in 5F means finishing blade, it is safe and leaves a nice finished look to the clip. I prefer the stainless combs by Wahl and if you are a groomer of planning on doing this for an extended period then I suggest getting the whole set, it's like $40-50 but several sizes come with it and you would use those over a 10 blade. hope this helps. :)

  • oh thank goodness, that dog looks soooooo much better without all that hair. Phew! Great videos, thank you. About to start learning how to give my long haired dog cuts at home, nervous.

  • found your video very helpful indeed i now trim my own dog.thankyou.

  • where can i get to buy the trimming sissors??

  • @weipintanvalerie Petedge.com is a good place to start ;)

  • thank you so much for posting this video...it would be a big help for me...

  • Thanks for posting this video. This is a huge help. What do you do with the ears, inside and out?

  • @rickygervaisfan I trim the ear hair along the very bottom as long as it's not matted, if you like you can shave them down and trim around the edge of the ear leather. As far as inside goes, check out my video on ear plucking. That should cover it. ;)

  • I was watching this with my male Chihuahua.. Little bastard was getting turned on by the Female dog WITH THE EXPOSE NIPPLES AND ALL.. HAHAHA I guess he thought it was SOME "HOTTT" DOGGIE PORN...

  • Hello....we have just adopted a 13 week shih "Tzu. watching your video's will help me learn to do my our grooming of him. As i work in the pet industry knowing how to do this type of thing will be great for me. So thanks from a Kiwi friend!

  • Hi what kind of clippers do you use?

  • This is an AWESOME idea for a SUMMER hair.. Poor dogs

  • Thanks for the great video! I feel a little more confident in clipping my 6 month old Shih tzu tomorrow! Excellent video! Beautiful little dog too :)

  • Great video! I just adopted a Shih tzu from my brother who was too young to really take proper care of the breed, and when I got him, he was pretty matted. I had to shave him down. But now I like to keep the face a bit longer, and I really want to know how to do that poofy leg thing. I think it's so cute! Have you already made a video demonstrating how to do that? Thanks again! This has helped me a lot!

  • These videos really helped! I've groomed my Shih Tzu for a while now, but you showed me some tidbits that made the job SO much easier. She sits better for me than a groomer that she doesn't know. I put her up on the table and she'll let me groom her. And, it saves a ton, too. Thanks for the video!

  • your videos are great, cheers from australia . people need to brush there dogs more .

  • Soy peluquero canino. Gracias por todos tus videos. Son muy explicativos.

  • Gracias, Me alegra que haya disfrutado de ellos.

  • terrific thanks for all the info.

  • Thanks so much for the video! Always wondered how the feet are done. I'm hoping to keep our puppy's feet trimmed up in between groomer visits. This helps a lot! Thanks again!

  • I have really enjoyed watching all your videos. I am at this moment doing a groomer course, I have to shitz crosses and can practice-- practice on them, thanks to you they will stay looking as cute as normal. You are a joy to watch so I hope you keep on adding to your video's as they are great to watch..Thanks from mokituk...

  • I have a 13 week old Shih-Tzhu Puppy. How old should Sophia Annabella be - before her first haircut/trim?

I massage every part of her body so she gets used to being handled for her high maintenance grooming needs!--lol

  • If she has had all her shots then it is time now to get her in for just a bath and trim. When you are massaging her use a mens shaver or something that makes noise and vibrates, that will get her ready for the clippers. ;) Good luck with Sophia Annabella! :D

  • i cut my shih tzu yesterday poor things its not a good look

  • I'm sorry you don't like it. One good thing is hair grows back. :)

  • i actually like to cut all the hair off my shih tzu's ears... LOL. but i think its so cute. and then i also like her body hair longer than her feet... cuz it looks dainty. lol. i have weird tastes, but i think when the hair is that short, it makes them look really stumpy....

  • 123arlene

I have an Andis AG2 and I already have a #10 and #4. What other blades should I buy for grooming my shih tzus? What kind of comb are you using?

I will DEFINITELY get the curved shears and the thinning shears.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi I love your videos and you are a great breeder! I recently bought a puppy however it's a cross breed between a Shih tzu and a Lhasa apso. And so my question is, when the puppy is 10 weeks old and is a cross breed is the hair different from the popular shih tzu and does the tri color that it has now change as it grows up, as in leaves a color behind?

Thank you!!!! Keep making videos! If possible my type of breed and also a Lhasa apso?

  • I am sure you ment groomer because I am not a breeder and am against most breeding. LOL as far as your dogs coat goes it is hard to tell what kind of coat your dog will end up with. Usually about 8 months old they start getting the aduld coat in. Color and texture varies even from parent to puppy so I have no idea how yours will turn out. I can tell you that Lasha and Shih Tzu are closely related so chances are it won't make much difference int he coat. ;) Does this help?

  • Thank you very much for this vid I needed it for my lil girl i cut her hair and it was still long and i did not know where to continue till i watched ur vid :)

  • Your welcome, glad I could help! :)

  • Thanks for the videos, I have a shihtzu and a cavalier. If you have videos of a cavalier groom that would be great too. You make it look so easy! I bought an Andis AGC 2 clipper and have a #10 and #4 blade so far.

  • Thanks! I will have a Cavie video soon, my little man is just about ready for one too. ;) Thanks for the comment. :)

  • is BLOOD over there...

  • I'm sorry, I don't understand your comment... ?

  • Great video you explain very well what you're doing and why. I'm also a groomer (UK) its interesting to see how certain styles are different. My puppy cuts are maybe not quite as short as that, just a tad longer though not much. Wish my wee dogs behaved as well as that though :)

  • Yes styles are very different around the world. I would call this a Kennel cut due to the shortness of it. Thank you for the compliment. Glad you liked it. :)

  • Great job! I wish you had a video of giving a Pekingese a puppy cut.

  • Thank you! What do you consider a puppy cut on a peke? Just asking because everyone has a different idea of what a puppy cut is. ;)

  • I think it's that the hair is cut the same length all around and it's about a 1/2 inch to 1 inch long??

  • Ok in that case you would do the same as on the Shih tzu but just using a longer blade attachment. ;) To me a puppy cut is not much of a cut at all, just trimming the feet and sanitary a bit. That is why I wanted to know what your idea of a puppy cut was. ;) Thanks again for your comment.:)

  • Thank you very much! My Pekingese Casey is getting up there in years now and she isn't handling the Florida heat as well as she use to so I want to cut the hair to help her out but no to short.

    :)

  • Very helpful videos...we have 2 shitzu pups and we're hoping we can groom them ourselves now that we've seen your vidoes! Thanks so much for posting them!

    :)

  • I hope all goes well. Remember practice makes perfect, both for you and your pups. ;)

  • Really glad I found your videos...I have groomed my shih tzu for awhile on my own but wanted some tips on how to really do it right....you have taught me a lot already! I'm subscribing hoping to learn more! Thanks!!

  • You are very welcome! Thanks for the comment. :)

  • Great videos with excellent instructional advice. I have a Shih Tzu and am just learning how to use the clippers on her. Your vids are a big help. I'm subbing! hugs, Chris

  • Thanks! That is why I put them up here. Glad they helped you. :) And thanks for subscribing! :)

  • hey, i notice that you dont do any brushing back the hair when you finish the dog. When i was in school i was taught to go over the dog many times to get all the hair even, any reason you dont do that? Just curious!

  • I was taught to go over a dog at least twice but not so much to brush up the body. I have only seen one groomer do it but I don't see the point, I get all the hair without doing it. Good question though ;)

  • Just found your vids and WOW, Great!! I have 2 Shih Tzu's and it's become too expensive to take them to the groomers so i've been trying to learn to groom them myself and I watched your videos. Thanks, im definitely subscribing.

  • Really glad you liked them! Thanks for the comment and thanks for subscribing. :)

  • She looks a lot better !

  • You did a great job of clipping China! And I could see better that time... You are so sweet to China!

  • Thanks! Glad you could see this one better. :) You really have to enjoy dogs to be a groomer, and I LOVE them. Thanks for your kind words. :)

  • Almost forgot the reason you could see this one better is because I figured out how to edit. ;)

  • Nice work! I love your personality and your technique is quite like mine, it is obvious you love what you do as well!

    ~Tonya~

  • Thanks! Thats what I thought when I watched your videos. ; p I do love it and I think the dogs know when you do. :) You should post more videos, I enjoyed watching your schnauzer groom!

  • I love your videos and I am trying to learn to groom my shihtzus. Is there a paticular type of clipper you would recommend for the novice. Work full-time and take a class so your videos are wonderful! Good luck and keep up the great work.
