    If they were the same year vette and GTO maybe, but these have completely different engines. The GTO has an LS1 and the C4 Corvette has an LT1.

    Try reading. In the title it says it's an '04 GTO and a C4 Vette. Plus an LS2 GTO has dual exhaust and hood scoops, and a C5 is a completely different body style. I have one of those too.

  • @smallfry0764 You do realize that C4's span 12 years right? If you raced an 84 Crossfire car (misfire), then I believe it. However, no way in hell you can beat any of the 6 spd cars in a GT. The 1996 C4 with a 6 speed, was capable of high 12's stock and on street tires. Not many Hondas doing that.

You do realize that the later C4's, the LT4's in particular, are high 12 second cars stock right? I have had several C4's and a pair of C5's....I can tell you this, it would take a damn sight more than bolt ons like headers and such to for a GT to better any of those cars.

  • @smallfry0764 Yep, that'll do it.  My LT4 has the hot cam, ported/polished and matched heads and intake...plus OBX long tube headers, and meizere electric water pump and magnaflow catback exhaust. Don't have the sticky tires though, which makes launching a bit of an issue.

  • hi! im a true jdm car guy trying to get into domestic cars so im planning on getting a C4 vette so can anyone point me in the right direction? i dont know the differance from the '80's C4 vs the '90's C4 so any help would...help THANKS :D

  • @WanganRunnerS30 Early C4' s came with the L98 motor (not including the ZR-1)these motors peaked out at only 250 HP I think, though the Torque was in the 350' s. These motors had a low RPM power band. The 92-96's came with the LT-1' s and LT-4's(again, not including the ZR-1 with the LT-5' s) These motors had power all around, Base Hp was 300 for the LT-1 and I think 330-340 for the LT-4. The main difference between the LT-1 and LT-4 is the ignition system. ----Read on in next comment-------

  • @VetteAholicZ06 If you are mechanically, go for the higher horsepower '92-'96. The reason I say this is because the distributor to these years are mounted in front of the motor, underneath the water pump, behind the crank damper, it's a little mission getting to there and if you have an oil leak it can take out the distributor. If you can do the work yourself go for it. If you want a more of a reliable ride then go for '91 and under. Anything else you'd like to know, ask away.

  • @VetteAholicZ06 The LT1 and LT4 differences are not in the ignition system. The differences lie in the cam, rockers, heads, intake, timing chain and crank shaft. Everything else, including the throttlebody, is virtually identical....Oh, the LT4 doesn't have an EGR valve and it has a better knock sensor as well.

  • @digitalfuk - the 85 C4 Corvette came with 225 hp. At that time (1984-1985) that was considered high numbers. It may have been the fastest production car out at the time, or perhaps even with Buicks Grand National.

    It's actually an old Cadillac. 2004 CTS-V with 5.7L NA 400hp LS6. Not the new LSA with supercharged 556 hp

  • Nice Vid, Man! Brings back memories of my 92 LT1 Vettes I had. Crusin buddies had GTO's, Firebirds, Camaros and they always marveled at my Vette for keeping up with them, being it was a decade older than their machines. I tweaked them a bit, of course.

Seeing as an lt1 and ls1 are both overhead valve.. And the lt5 is arguably the most radical motor chevy (and mercury marine) has ever made which led to the design of the 32v northstar motors. To me they are night and day.

  • Well go figure it was about a tie (gto had the better jump), the vette was 15 to 20 years old. Of course this new american V8 was going to win, I mean I walked an 80's C4 vette with my 98 T/A at the jump of a traffic light, but that didn't make my Trans-AM the greater car. Corvette is hailed as America's greatest sports car (Mustang the most favorite) and it is the better car than the ones I've mentioned. All stock with top speed of about 190 m.p.h., the old cat didn't fully stretch its legs!

  • Theres not a great difference between an LT1 and an LS1 so I don't see how comparing the age of the cars is a point of discussion.  The little bit heavier car has the little bit more powerful engine.

    Of course the Corvette is classic but you need to get with the times and get into an LS-series engine. I have a G8 GT but you better believe I would trade it in for a Z06 if I could.

  • @MrBowmanII Not necessarily. The C4 Vette also came in ZR-1 package. 400+ horsepower. Famous for running at 175 mph for 24 hours straight. But I agree, probably '04 against a normal C4, considering the cameraman was able to keep up with them from behind. What's funny, is everytime the Vette starts to pass, the GTO stomps his brakes, like he'd rather brake on purpose then get beat. Hey,.. if you're gonna race, and expect other people you beat to take their lumps, then you gotta take yours too!!

  • @LT1C4 i will agree with yer statement but that is only the i feel crappy 5.7L, its pretty heavy with only 350hp to the crank. the vette might have less HP or same but is lighter they both have good weight to hp ratios. in speed there both pretty damn good but on a auto cross track hands down the vette kills just about anything.

  • @LT1C4 In the info below the video it states "1995 LT1 Corvette". I'm unsure how you arrived at the conclusion that I was discrediting the Vette?

    While it is indeed impressive that the Vette was able to keep up with the GTO given it's down about 50 hp, you also need to keep in mind that gap narrows considerably with the roughly 500 lb difference in curb weight. The Corvette weighs 3239 lbs vs the GTO 3725 lbs which translates to an almost equal power-to-weight ratio ;)

  • @marcomariaz26 have you driven a GTO? I personally have driven an 04 and an 07. they handle a lot better than a C4 corvette. not saying a C4 is a bad car I love Vettes. I'm just saying it from personal experience from working at my family owned automotive shop.

  • @marcomariaz26 Well, my Vette is a c3, so it's a lot older than the c4 in this video. The c3s are pretty notorious for their terrible handling around corners. Still, experience matters, and with enough practice, you can take corners pretty fast in a GTO.

  • @marcomariaz26 L82 were not made that year, up to 91 it was a 250hp L98, 92 to 96 it was a 300hp LT1,(LT4 with manual tranny, 330 horses)with minor tweaking you can easily get 350horses out of it. I have V6 Sonoma and 94 vette, if you live in south florida I'll take you on with either one on your Z26.

  • @will79601 well thank you sir :) i will admit that there are several pos mustangs out there but i can promise you that i dont bother with them. dont let the bad apples ruin the mustang name. my dad has owned 4 bmw's that all had coolant leaks and got overheated on the highway yet i still can appreciate that most bmw's are good pieces of machinery. especially in the eyes of an engineer. most parts are easily removable and replaceable (although expensive)

  • @TheZohaun What were the mustangs built for? Both of these cars, including the OLD vette have independent rear suspension, just like the Lambos, Ferraris, Porsches and all those mega money cars. Just think for 50 grand you can buy a vette supercar that will smoke any mustang at 50k, Can you buy a mustang shelby with independent rear suspension for that? Well at least not a new one.

  • @Cqjones1 a mustang shelby is just an interpretation that carol shelby had of the mustang. its his view of how the mustang should be. in order to get a shelby you take a gt or a cobra and you send it to his factory to have it worked on for a price. if you want to take the interpretation of a mustang called the UBB mustang you can actually pit it up against the veyron and beat it to 200 mph but then the veyron will pass it. the UBB mustang has 1000 bhp stock. sexiest mustang alive imo ;)

  • Seeing as how my 1986 C4 is 24 years old($7000), I'm pretty happy with the performance vs a new 2011($50-75thousand new Corvette which doesn't even cover the $125k for a new ZR1. Doesn't say in this video if the C4 was an auto or Doug Nash 4+3 tranny.
