Frankly, I dont find Dean's songs interesting, and this one in particular, although his voice is quite pleasant.
I think the left political stance that he took and which sought him popularity behind the Iron Wall was mainly due to waning popularity of his albums at home, where disco and rock were already in high demand
In fact Dean Reed only released albums in the USA at the beginning of the 1960s,from then on most of his LPs were released in South America and the socialist countries,we can never be sure about his motives but I do think he had a lot of meaningful and nice songs - unfortunately,most people associate him only with political songs.

I don't think you are fully aware of the story of this song - it was the anthem of the Unidad Popular - the party of the Chilean politician Salvador Allende who won the democratic elections in Chile in 1970.He was overthrown by a bloody military coup d'etat led by Augusto Pinochet who ruled Chile for many years under a dictatorship - thousands of people died or disappeared during the years he ruled.
Pinochet's dictatorship has been condemned by all democratic countries in the world.The song "Venceremos" remained a symbol of hope and freedom for many Chileans and Latin Americans who suffered under right-wing dictatorships.I can not accept calling "Venceremos" an idiotic song - in the years of tyranny it was encouraging Chileans to fight against oppression.All the things I wrote can be easily confirmed by all history textbooks in any country.

Oh, come on!! There's absolutely nothing that says Dean Reed gave up being progressive, even if he had, actually, disappointed with the east pro-soviet governments, which is not proved, either. No, no hay confusion. El Fascismo tiene origenes en ciertas formas de socialismo. A buscar en alguna buena Enciclopedia si hay dudas. NO ESTOY DICIENDO QUE EL FASCISMO SEA MARXISTA, aunque Mussolini fue lider de cierta faccion dentro del Partido Socialista Italiano, que si era marxista. El Fascismo, A PESAR DE SUS MISERIAS, hay que tener en cuenta que tiene un origen socialista, y sus politicas si llegan a reflejar ese componente politico-social. I believe his major mistake was simple: He should have moved to Cuba or Nicaragua - not the GDR. In Habana or Managua he would have been happy - singing for the compas fighting the contras and the revolutionaries from all over the world.

Frankly, I dont find Dean's songs interesting, and this one in particular, although his voice is quite pleasant.
I think the left political stance that he took and which sought him popularity behind the Iron Wall was mainly due to waning popularity of his albums at home, where disco and rock were already in high demand

In fact Dean Reed only released albums in the USA at the beginning of the 1960s,from then on most of his LPs were released in South America and the socialist countries,we can never be sure about his motives but I do think he had a lot of meaningful and nice songs - unfortunately,most people associate him only with political songs.

He didn't sing about winning over communist tyranny. He ignored the oppression of the communist system. This song is actually a covert call for the victory of communism. I don't think you are fully aware of the story of this song - it was the anthem of the Unidad Popular - the party of the Chilean politician Salvador Allende who won the democratic elections in Chile in 1970.He was overthrown by a bloody military coup d'etat led by Augusto Pinochet who ruled Chile for many years under a dictatorship - thousands of people died or disappeared during the years he ruled.

Pinochet's dictatorship has been condemned by all democratic countries in the world.The song "Venceremos" remained a symbol of hope and freedom for many Chileans and Latin Americans who suffered under right-wing dictatorships.I can not accept calling "Venceremos" an idiotic song - in the years of tyranny it was encouraging Chileans to fight against oppression.All the things I wrote can be easily confirmed by all history textbooks in any country.

OK, I wasn't aware of the origin of the song. But my comment about Reed -- he was a communist dupe -- is still true. You didn't deny that. He lived in communist East Germany. He was an apologist for the Soviet Union. He defended the building of the Berlin Wall. You say the song is about the "fight against oppression." But he was an apologist for communist oppression. He was a fool. Regardless of the origin of the song, I think he sang it with a subliminal purpose in mind.

Lo que si es cierto es que a la hora de llegar al poder, tanto el Fascismo como el Nacionalsocialismo no llevaron a cabo el socialismo que profesaban; en ambos casos termino pesando mas su aspecto nacionalista y terminaron llevando a cabo politicas siempre capitalistas, aunque fuertemente socializadas. Por lo menos, en el caso del Nacionalsocialismo hubieron sectores claramente socialistas (ver hermanos Strasser y Strasserismo) e incluso, ya en el poder, anticapitalistas como Gottfried Feder.

No, no hay confusion. El Fascismo tiene origenes en ciertas formas de socialismo. A buscar en alguna buena Enciclopedia si hay dudas. NO ESTOY DICIENDO QUE EL FASCISMO SEA MARXISTA, aunque Mussolini fue lider de cierta faccion dentro del Partido Socialista Italiano, que si era marxista. Buscar los puntos programaticos tanto del fascismo como del Nacionalsocialismo y se vera que se manifiesta rechazo por las ganancias producto del trabajo de terceros, por herencias, etc.

Me parece una bonita cancion. Pero tengo que decir algunas cosas. No estoy de acuerdo con ese uso que se da y se daba a la palabra FASCISMO. El Fascismo, A PESAR DE SUS MISERIAS, hay que tener en cuenta que tiene un origen socialista, y sus politicas si llegan a reflejar ese componente politico-social. No se deberia llamar Fascista a cualquier porqueria de Derecha. Me gustaria, ademas, compartir el optimismo que se expresa en la cancion, pero la masa es muy tonta como para hacerme iluciones.
