Name one dominican politican who had any large effect like Luis munoz marin (my realtive) had on their country. Luis was featured in the times twice and is considered one of the most influential politicans of the 20th century. During his reign puerto rico had the second highest income behind oil rich venezuela. The university of puerto rico was the best college( world renown figures taught there). Other less developed countries leaders went to p.r and marveled at the success of the carribean.

According to the 2000 census the DR population is made of 73% mixed people(TRUE, mulattos etc.. which is the stereotypical dominican face), 11% blacks(usually people of haitian descent and some DR natives in the south), and 14% whites(I bet the descendants of arab, jewish and spaniard settlers, as well as some DR natives in the Cibao) the rest are probably the chinese people.

Please Haiti was once the the stronger nation of the two. Yes Haitians now have deep misfortunes, but they were the first latin american nation to freed themselves from slavery.(something the dominicans look up to). During Paul magloire reign Haiti was the spot for U.S and european tourist. And their economy and living was good.
