@mastshke Yet that same Packer team won five NFL championships, including two Super Bowls, and the 80s Bears went to the playoffs 5 time only winning 6 playoff games and only won one Championship. So much for dominance. See, when the Packers were coached by Lombardi, they one lost one playoff game and that was the 1962 Championship game to the Eagles.
Certainly the most physicallly gifted trio, and athletic,...if not most feared for their time. Best i've seen in my lifetime,..and i'm 51...Giants' trio ahead of these guys?....what a joke.

i think these guys were great. when i switched to defense in 8th great and played MLB my coach gave me 50, i had heard about singletary but never saw him play til i looked him up that year- was a huge compliment looking back lol
They only won one championship because their O was in the bottom half of the league all those years...just like today, and back when my great grandfather was alive.
@Church6397 I know its legal, but have you watched the NFL today? Players are actually fined when they tackled quarterbacks too hard, if you don't believe me look up LaMarr Woodley's fine for tackling a quarterback in an intimidating mannor. He was fined I think 15 or 20k for it.
@MegaSciFiGuy im not hating. im just saying that the 46 defense was the pinnacle of the 86 bears success not the linebackers. and if you're that damn good, how come yall only won one championship?
we only won 1 championship because buddy ryan left the following year to coach the philadelphia eagles..had ryan stayed they would've won multiple championships....everybody knows that!
Mike Singletary was playing like a French Exocet missile:built low to the ground, great acceleration, destroying targets. He was tough to knock off his feet, would shed blockers well &roamed from sideline to sideline. He played with unbelievable intensity,The combination of instincts, lateral movement, film study, toughness, intensity, &speed put Singletary head & shoulders above most other middle and inside linebackers. leadership,& run-stuffing prowess.
@Coganboy They got it right. It would have to be the Saints. They had four of them, and yes the NY Giants did have Taylor, Carson, Banks, and Pepper Johnson, but Johnson was not truly great until the late 1980s. In the mid 80s pepper was still just improving.
Wilbur Marshall, who may have been the superior athlete of that incredible trio of LB, was a spectacular hitter. When Al Harris sat out 1985,Bears found out Marshall was better than Harris in all phases& a more natural player. In the "46",Marshall was assigned the TE man-to-man,& quickly became 1 of the few NFL outside linebackers who could handle it. Marshall was a brilliant athlete,an impact player of the highest magnitude,a concussive hitter who ran as fast as many strong safeties.
He played much bigger than his size of 6-1 and 225 pounds, and it had been said, that the only thing separating him from Lawrence Taylor was 2 inches and 20 pounds. They could always count on Marshall to make a big play, run, hit, cover,& lead.he was a powerful, remorseless hitter with SS speed. Trying to stop him on the blitz with a RB was laughable since Marshall could overpower finesse blockers and out out-quick the stronger ones. Teammate Otis Wilson was the classic intimidator.
Otis Wilson was so physical and fast. Wilson was a loud, brash, physical player whose forte would become the strong-side blitz,& he had good timing on his back-field assaults. At 6-2 & 232,Wilson was super strong & mean, and tough at the point of attack with a killer instinct. Wilson was a master blitzer, & was spared coverage responsibilities so his strength, explosive quickness and keen anticipation could produce big plays at the line of scrimmage.

hey heres a question. how is it the 85 bears 1 steelers defense 2 but the saints 1?
mastshke 2 months ago
@mastshke Because cause of the DL those teams had. Both of the teams you mentioned
sent DL to the Hall of Fame. The only good thing about the eighties saints was their line-backing corps and thats it.

@09fredo exactly this is a joke.
mastshke in reply to 09fredo (Show the comment) 2 months ago
@mastshke I know, it should be the Packers at number one and the Bears at number two. Because the Bears will always be second place to the Packers.

@gb6710 the packers were not as dominant as this 46 defense.

@lionslicer9999 Yeah I get you, I'm just saying that the actual nature of the hit wasn't that vicious, it was more of a push than a tackle really
