Blink182hero, about 4. Back then, 1952-54 I do remember seeing other harnessed kids at the RR station, county fairs etc. The harnesses we were put in wer'nt nearly as fancy as they are today, with stuffed animals &backpacks on 'em. Just small leather belts with regular belt buckles on the back. You can see one on one of the extras on the original "NAKED CITY" film (1955). That harness kept me from outrunning my overweight, 62 year old Grandmother. It was frustrating at first, but kept me close.
I was introduced to the harness/leash when I was about 2 or 3, and remember struggling against it until I figured I could'nt get out of it, until I learned not to take off running from my caregiver. I later in life had to similarly train my youngest child, who would run off, and not stop when called. You can see from these videos, that some kids need extra control over them.
@emptynester7985 lol how old were u when u got it taken off? also it must have been back when you were probably the only kid on a leash, did that kinda suck being in public on a leash and everyones looking like wtf this kids on a leash!! and all the other kids are roamin free
I vaguely remember having a wrist leash as a kid. I am not scarred for life nor distrust my parents because of it. I seem to remember that I actually enjoyed wearing it as a kid.
@mackat4ck I had a wrist leash too, and see no problem with kids wearing it, really. Lol, I enjoyed wearing it too, for some odd reason. I haven't a clue why though...
wow - that's so exagerated. I started using the harness and reins with my littel girl when she started to walk, as she would fall with her face on the floor quite easily and as I am tall, the harness helped me to hold her while she was practicing her first steps, so what's the big deal about that? I just can't get these people and actually wont waste my precious time with such useless discussions - they should find somthing of serious concern to fight against
If your a good enough parent/guardian, you should be able to know where your child is at ALL times, with out an animal leash on them, run off into traffic? Please.. If you can't remember about a child enough, that you have to leash them, then don't have kids. Try holding there hand, carrying them, or putting them infront of you at all times, no need for fucking leashes on humans.
@OMGgirl12345 Ever plan on going to disneyland or similarly crowded places? Ever have to carry groceries and have your hands tied up? Kids can be properly in front of you one second and darting away the next. Its a perfectly viable safety tool in certain situations. Even the best parents and best behaved children makemistakes, get lost, kidnapped etc. Why would you use one to keep an animal safe but negelect the kid? Same concept.
@Neobluie Why do anything with a small child if they wont remember? Who is to say what will be remembered and for how long? Can y0ou imagine having more than one child of varying ages? Do you do drugs? lul
Im sorry but why is it bad that they wear leashes? do you have any idea how many children get kidnapped each year just because the parent looked away for 2 seconds? Parents can't have their eyes on their child 100% of the time they are in public, this is why they have leashes. I bet every parent who lost their child wish that they had gotten one.
BAD parents? WTF? So being concerned with your childs safety is being a bad parent? Okay, by a show of hands everyone who's complaining who of you actually have kids and some sort of parenting experiance??
ummm I do. I have 2 very active boys and these leashes make me sick to my stomach. Instead of teaching their kids the dangers of streets they guide them w/ a leash. My 2 yr old walks perfectly holding my hand in public bc I taught him. Ive actually seen lazy moms in the tiny dr office w/ their kids on leashes. Never letting go just guiding them like dogs. It does not teach the kid how to get around in society. Its sick and disgusting!
hold their hand if your so worried, this is just lazy parents fucking the kids self esteem up. If my wife did this to my kid I'd bitch slap the shit out of her
Some people favor having their kid on a leash, but I wouldn't want that. Seriously----I would think that the kid and the parent would lost some bonding touch. Anyways, it is very disturbing to see this concept of taking care of a child, just like holding it like an animal.
are you joking? there is nothing wrong with this. at least she knows where her son is and doesn't have to worry about him catching up or running off into traffic! you are an idiot for even posting this saying they are bad parents. you are a fucking moron!
If the kid were actually taught better then the kid would not even run around at the first place. This just tells me that these kind of parents don't really put time in actually EDUCATING the kids of how to behave in public, instead they took the time of putting them on the leash just to "know" where kids are. This is sad
rkmn88: all it takes is a split second you turning your head and someone kidnaps your child. also, i don't agree with you. my niece is well behaved and would walk right next to me but if she saw a dog, kitten, etc. she would run off in a heartbeat to go pet it. i think most children would. she could run into the street and get hit by a car in a split second or get kidnapped.
sure i can understand of how kids would run off for a split second just because they see something they like, but isn't that normal?? And isn't this part of parenting, part of being a mom and a father that they would have to take that "extra" responsibility in taking care of that child? Plus--running into the street, or get hit by a car in a split second is a bit of exagerration.
I can see that but i can also see over protective parents that no mater how much they tell them about the dangers of getting lost they STILL need to have a leash on thier kids because they are to scared to let them walk around in publis without one on.
That kid is very anticipating. Great. But you don't throw food to your child as you throw it to your dog, although you're interested in the well-being of both them. It's a cultural thing.
Only a very decadent society refers exclusively to purely consequentionalist arguments.
@lillypad3320 exactly right. I dont understand why people freak out emotionally and stop thinking when they see this. "They arent dogs!" No shit right, but they need to be restrained from potentially dangerous situations all the same since neither will always no better. Why dont ppl freak out about pacifiers and teethers as doggy chew toys? Would be just as idiotic.
@lillypad3320 They are bad parents and your a moron. A REAL parent doesn't need to leash their child because they know how to raise their child. Leashes are for animals.
@BradleyGA Chew toys are for dogs too right? would you give a baby a pacifier or teether? would u use safety gates to restrain kids from potentially harmful areas? That's for animals and convicts right? Do baby cribs pull your emotional triggers and shut down your pea brain just as well as child leashes? Confinement is for criminals what awful parents... lol@your "reasoning".
@Malbrojia lol and thats why you'd be a bad parent. A leash is nothing like a gate or a chew toy. You hold your childs hand if your afraid of them running off, people are too lazy to put time into raising and caring for their children so they get leashes to make it easier for them.
@BradleyGA Sure a gate and a leash are similar in the most relevant sense: they are BOTH restraints designed to increase safety. Dogs go in dog-runs and pens, kids in their cribs and the purpose is EXACTLY the same. Find a better argument than "Leashes are for animals". Im surprised you dont freakout over ppl strapping their kids down with seatbelt harnesses. hand holding is nice, but has it limitations. Ppl only have 2 for 1. Any valid arguments in your pea brain?
@Malbrojia I suppose you'd put a child in a cage too? Or bring them outside to go to the bathroom? A good parent has no limitations. A leash is what it is, people are lazy thats that.
OKay whoever posted this is dumb this is not child abuse or ridiculous. I have one for my son who may have ADHD and he tend to run off an get lost. What you rather have happen I lose my son and never see him again or have him wear that so I know he is next to me. My son loves his monkey!! The only time it comes off is when he wants it off.
i wont mind to use a leash if it is completely necessary, but my husband is completely against this, but i also think that if you have your baby on a leash there is no way some one can kidnap your baby. so it is safe, just treat your baby with love !!!
I used to be very against these things, until I met one little girl. She's so wild, she's so crazy, she's always running off. If she wasn't wearing one of these things she'd be dead. No doubt. (And no, her behavior isn't because of her parents or anything like that, her parents are very good, and discipline her, her little brother is an angel. SOME kids are just more hyper than others, they are PEOPLE and have DIFFERING personalities. It's not worth risking their lives to not use this tool.)
I was at the mall today and there was a kiosk where you could play some video game and i walk by and see a kid with absolutely no expression on his face lying on the ground and attached to him was a child leash. His dad had dragged him across the floor to go play the game. It was quite sad, but extremely funny to see.
Having a leach on a kid is fine. It's a good thing.
They use it because when a couple has a kid, they get Blindisytous. It's a medical disease where they go blind whenever their kid is around, and so when this disease acts up and they go blind while drooling over the discount rack at wallmart, their kid won't run away.
Plus you can drag him behind when your in a real hurry. GONE!
