  • tonfa rule

  • wow this fight is so staged, get it, because they're on a stage.

  • Tonfa is a deff weapon you cant go head on vs an Escrima. There is no better weapon there is only a better wealder ( sorry for spelling :D). Mastering one is challange let alone two. :D

  • given a choice - i would take the escrima sticks - it would be easier (not easy) to handle the escrima sticks - you'd have to be EXCEPTIONAL with the tonfa to win - harder to master.

  • And the tonfa vs escrima debate goes on...

  • A Tonfa is an Escrima with better defence and attack capabilities, u can be plenty fast with a tonfa and very deceptive as well as extreamly defensive. sticks are... sticks. Tonfas are real weapons. I could be wrong how ever, it seems evident that a Tonfa would be better since an Escrima is simply a stick.

  • @juden420 have you ever heard the simpler the better ?:D but as i said you cant judge weapons like that... :D

  • @juden420 The tonfa's more like an escrima with less range, and less versatility, two of the aspects that define it as a weapon, both of which are some of the most effective assets a weapon can have objectively.

  • @FirstTsurugi06 Yes but tonfas also have many stances, so the opponent must prepare for a lot more attacks, and they also have handles, making it hard to disarm.

  • The show... Tonfas are better cause they are faster, heavier, allow more attack ways, allow better block and powerful fist charge...

  • also they are harder to pull out of some ones hand if they are caught.

  • it would be rather painful to catch one. Yet when caught, you have the second one to attack + legs and head.

  • the person holding it has a hndle the other person doesnt so pulling it out of their grip owuld be easy i think

  • escrima is much better... you could do locks, and throws with it. this guy whos using escrima is just executing the the basics.

  • As a practitioner of both i can tell you that Tonfas are harder to handle, and move slowing in your hand. If tw masters of the styles were to meet the escrima user would definately have that tactical and speedy edge due to ease of use and lighter sticks, as well as a little range, however tonfas do hit harder in a swing. It comes down to human error really, who gets that oppertunity to strike the opponent's body first and break the initial concentration.

  • I have done this sort of demo before but

I do slighter shorter demos at this speed then again at full speed

Also the Tonfa use was not very good

  • i thought tonfas were meant to be held so that the longer part protects your forearm. that makes more sense to me than this, although i can see how they are effective held like this.

  • Aye it is a bit odd as Tonfa originated in Okinowa and Escrima is from the Phillipines. Also you don't use tonfa like that, you may as well be using a stick, as any benefit you get from the tonfas design is lost using them like these guys were.

  • actualy there is a weapon that is identical to the tonfa, called the Chinese crutch, and as for the bastons, (escrima sticks) twin chinese rods.....just different names...how ever there was little variation in the tonfa technique in the early part of the demo

  • Actually the Tonfa is supposed to be switching between the long and the short end, thereby fully utilizing both reach and protection

  • Niether of these weapons are Chinese. How can this be China night?

  • Good point...

  • Tonfas are nice to swing and fight with because it is more acurate than escrima or kali sticks which tonfa makes it more quick to attack because you can swing and block better or maybe mix it with kata I have a pair of okinawan tonfa but im still pretty bad

  • My dad says that Escrima Sticks are better than Tonfas, which I like, Which is better?

  • I like tonfa better

  • tonfas

  • this is very slow for filipino stick fighters..they usually use fast system strikes..

well maybe coz its a demo.

  • yea, I noticed that too, but then I also realized that the audience needs to be able to see the movements too XD

  • I understand the speed - safety first and so on... But still it looked so directed and unnatural that it should be faster.

About the way he used the tonfas I won't say a thing except - I after a MONTH of learning use them not only faster but more certain and accurate. 2/5

    @.@

  • crap tonfas are wrong

  • He's not using the tonfa right.

  • you got that right

  • Yeah, your supposed to hold them so they a paralell with your arms, right...?

  • well, that is a stance. You can use them however you want as long as you don't use them like the SWAT and police use their "Batons". Also, the tonfas are suppose to spin DX

  • Fast Forward the video for more realism

  • Ang Bagal!

  • for you non filipinos out there ang bagal=slow

  • lol ty I was like...what?..

  • are they playing or something? if this is just a demo i would understand.... since i saw and practiced eskrima myself, the arnis guy is too slow. he needs some energy drink

  • lol i kno right can we get him a Monster

  • DAMN too slow.....Here in philippines people doing like that are very fast...

  • Eh...it's alright. Better with the left hand than I am. It'd be nice to see more, only at a faster speed. I can see why they'd go slow though. Getting hit by an Escrima stick doesn't feel too good. -.o; I've learned that the hard way. Lol.

  • im lovin it. great video

  • Too slow... It looks like you are afraid of the fact that it could hurt.

  • This is choreographed, right? I would have picked up my other tonfa ASAP.

  • loosen up ! its a kata thats put together as a two man form--not bad!

  • bad form for the escrima guy

  • Liked it very much. I would encourage to work more with the tonfa and discover versatility, especially the rotating strikes for both disarm and attack can be powerful against kali sticks

  • its obvious that it was choreographed, but it was pretty good, maybe i ought to take my tonfa and get my friend who knows how to do escrima sticks and do something like this.

  • hess holding hes tonfas all goofy!

  • did he just drop his weapon?! 0 points for you! or was it on perpose?

  • Allen and Mike choreographed the fight, so all of the weapon disarms were planned (that is, on purpose)

  • @XhikariXkittenX this is lame, very slow

  • It look likes they really don't know those weapons or martial arts.

  • Everyone's a critic...however I see no video postings from the crap talkers....they are keyboard martial artists, at the most....good video guys...choreography looks great.

  • And where's your video, HUH?! Yeah, just like I thought.

  • that was great.good job five stars

  • alittle faster next time, then we can call it a performance
